O
With Spring Break almost upon us, I’d like to take a moment and say CONGRATULATIONS to all of our
students for an outstanding second term. I would also like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone in our
community who contributed to making Term Two the success it was. Whether you helped out with our
Joseph production, Bingo Night, drove on field trips, helped in the library etc. your contributions are greatly
appreciated. On behalf of everyone here at Gray, I wish all of our families a very restful and enjoyable
Spring Break! Please remember that our school will re-open on Monday, April 2, 2012. TERM TWO REPORT CARDS
Report Cards will not be issued for second term. Under the guidelines of a recent Labour Relations Board
ruling and following direction of the Deputy Minister of Education, report cards for the second term will not
be issued. Further information will be coming home today giving parents direction regarding contacting
their child’s teacher for progress and achievement information.

REGISTRATION FOR 2012-2013
Our Kindergarten Registration was held on February 16th, and I am happy to report that we received 44
registrations for Gray to date with several out of catchment students wanting into Gray. We expect more
registrations to come in, but this is a very good start. Please encourage neighbours who have not yet
signed up to come to the school as soon as possible to register. The best way to avoid
disappointment is to sign up early.
Kindergarten registrants also have the opportunity to take part in “Starting With Stories.”
This program is designed to help parents find out how they can help their child get a good
start in school. The program consists of three sessions during which parents receive
information on the importance of early literacy and numeracy experiences for children.
Sessions will be held on April 12th , 18th, and 26th from 9:00-10:30 p.m. These sessions are filling up
quickly so please register soon to secure your spot in this valuable program.
As mentioned in a previous newsletter, for new students in Grades 1-7 who do not reside in the Gray
catchment area, March 9th was the deadline for applying for admission to Gray for Sept. 2012. For new
students in Grades 1-7 who reside in the Gray catchment area, June 8th is the deadline for admission
to Gray for Sept. 2012. Registrations after these dates can be considered, but acceptance is subject to
available space. Once again, the best way to avoid disappointment and to receive priority in your category
is to honor the deadlines. Students already registered at Gray do not need to re-apply as they are
already counted in our school’s numbers.

TRACK AND FIELD SEASON
Due to the current job action and resulting difficulties with organizing and preparing for the upcoming track
and field season, the Elementary Zone Track and Field Meets as well as the District Track and Meet
scheduled for May are currently under review and therefore on hold. As further developments in the
current labour situation occur, we will have a better understanding of whether we can move forward with
planning and organizing. A decision might not be made until after spring break. We appreciate your
understanding amidst these challenges.
BINGO NIGHT
A great night was had by everyone who attended our PAC’s Bingo Night last Friday. A special thank you to
Ruth Kaune for once again, taking on the task of organizing this annual event. Thank you’s also go out to
all the parents and Sands Leadership Students, who volunteered their time to help ensure the night was the
success it was. It’s events such as these that further build the wonderful sense of community that exists
here at Gray!
