Yard set for busy Chester May Fest
CHARITY MISSION H MICHAEL THANKS MHS OWNERS AND STAFF FOR SUPPORT – PAGE 2 OH SO CLOSE SPRINTER NABBED ON LINE H MANOR HOUSE RACING CLUB’S JAN GREEN LOOKS BACK ON TRINITYELITEDOTCOM’S BID FOR A 100K POT – PAGE 2 ManorHouseMonthly Chester’s May Festival gets under way this Wednesday Yard set for busy Chester May Fest C HESTER’S May Festival, which gets under way today [Wednesday], is always an important fixture on the Manor House calendar and this year is no exception. Tom will be sending one of his strongest ever teams to the Roodeye and, with runners on all three days, it will be disappointing if we can’t bag at least one winner. Indeed, the yard looks to have a live chance in six of the seven races on the opening day, including our own race, the 5f Manor House Stables Lily Agnes Stakes, in which Roudee will be bidding to follow up Quatour’s success last year. Brockwell runs in today’s big race, the stanjames.com Chester Cup over 2m2f; Ballista goes to post in the 5f Stellar Group Handicap; Ghosting and The Character line up in the 1m2f Boodles Diamond Maiden Stakes; Trinityelitedotcom returns to turf in the 5f Stella Artois Condition Stakes; and Ujagar could run well in the concluding 1m 4f Diabetes UK Handicap. Anaconda lines up in the 1m2f IG Handicap which opens tomorrow’s card; Hot Coffee returns to action in the 7f Boodles Diamond Handicap; the unraced juvenile Red Icon, London Life and Macarthurs Park could all go to post in the 5f T&L Leasing EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes; Thataboy is in the 6f Betfair Cash Out Handicap; and Double Discount will bid for the 1m2f Investec Structured Products Handicap. Kenny Powers, Capo Rosso and Chosen Character are possibles for Friday’s opening race, the 7f sportingbet.com Earl Grosvernor Handicap; stable star Brown Panther could return to action in the 1m5f Boodles Diamond Ormonde Stakes; Fine ‘n’ Dandy and Thataboy may line up in the 5f Crabbie’s EBF Stallions Handicap; Destiny’s Kitten and Sitting Pritty are entered in the Merseyrail Day Saver Ticket Maiden Fillies’ Stakes; and Jenny Powell could be aboard Licence To Till, who was claimed out of Mark Johnston’s yard in the concluding 1m4f LDF Apprentice Handicap. Issue No.38 May 2014 Roudee first juvenile win APRIL was another good month for the yard with six more winners, taking our total so far in 2014 to 16. And it could have been even better – star sprinter Trinityelitedotcom leading everywhere but the line in the sprint final, worth almost 100k to the winner, at the inaugural all-weather championships – turn to Page 2 to read Manor House Racing club member Jan Green’s account of the day. Laurence Bellman’s Barracuda Boy set the ball rolling when winning a 6f Wolverhampton handicap on April 5 with Capo Rosso winning a 1m handicap on the same card for Deva Racing. Rav Garcia’s three-yearold Ujagar tasted success for the first time when winning a 1m4f Wolverhampton handicap on April 8. Three days later another three-year-old, Dreams Of Reality, built on the promise of her debut to land a 5f maiden at the same venue for owner John Duffy. The yard’s second double of the month came at Ripon on April 17 when Roudee, owned by Mike Edwards, Nick Hughes, Dylan Jenkins and Steve Roberts, became our first two-year-old winner of 2014. Later on the same afternoon Andrew Black’s four-year-old filly Wall Of Sound maintained last year’s improvement to land a competitive 1m2f handicap. CHECK OUT WWW.MANORHOUSESTABLES.COM FOR MORE FROM THE YARD Manor House Monthly Marathon effort is a huge fundraiser The Manchester Royal Eye Hospital cheque MICHAEL Owen has thanked everybody who sponsored him to run in last month’s Virgin Money London Marathon. Owners and staff at Manor House were among those who helped Michael to raise more than £75,000 for three very worthy causes. A total of £77,043 was shared between Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool, Manchester Royal Eye Hospital Charity and Prostate Cancer UK. “The contrast be- tween a 90-minute game of football and the London Marathon was as extreme as you can imagine and, although it was one of the hardest things I have ever accomplished, it was also one of the best,” said Michael afterwards. “I would like to thank everyone for their amazing support.” Michael was one of the fastest celebrities to complete the 26.2m course, finishing his first marathon in 3:45:43. Page 2 Not too late to join in all the fun IF you haven’t already done so then it’s not too late to join Manor House Racing Club for the remainder of 2014. And with club horse Trinityelitedotcom improving at a rate of knots over the course of recent months, exciting times lie ahead. The four-year-old sprinter has finished either first or second in each of his last 10 races, winning five of them, and netting almost £100,000 in the process. Membership costs just £40 a month and a one-off joining fee of £100 and includes a share of prize money, stable visits, and owners’ badges whenever Trinityelitedotcom is in action. More details are available under the ownership tab at www.manorhousestables. com or by phoning the office on 01948 820485. Manor House Racing Club member Jan Green was at Lingfield to see Trinityelitedotcom come agonisingly close to landing a near 100k pot Trinity thrills club members Richard is our new financial controller MANOR House Stables has a new financial controller. Richard Challoner has filled the vacancy which arose following the departure of Alex Owen earlier this year. Richard, 36, is a chartered accountant, who grew up on a Cheshire farm. His brother Harry is a National Hunt jockey and sister Mandy a renowned local equestrian artist. Overseas successes for former inmates TWO former Manor House inmates have been enjoying success on farflung shores. Junoob, who Tom trained to win two races in early 2012, won a Group 2 race at Rosehill, Trinityelitedotcom, centre, is chinned by Alben Star, left Richard Challoner in Australia, at the beginning of last month. And Laurence Bellman’s This Is Nice, a winner at Brighton last May, landed a first win on American soil at Pimlico on April 26. B EING a member of the Manor House Racing Club during April could only have been improved by a small margin – a head! Our stable visit on April 12 began with Lizzie’s excellent bacon sandwiches with the essential options of brown or red sauce! Suitably fortified we visited the equine swimming pool to see a two-year-old complete several laps of the pool. Tom explained the benefits of swimming when a horse is able to exercise, use different muscles and have a good blow and it was fascinating to see the way they instinctively swim – something of an improvement on doggy paddle! Next stop was a tour of the barns where inmates were being tacked up for the next lot on a busy working day for the yard. This is the time to listen to the staff when they assess their charges. It soon became obvious Roudee was one for the notebook and he provided a quick return with a 4-1 win at Ripon just a few days later! Across in the trotting ring the horses warmed up before doing faster work on the gallops. Our club horse Trinityelitedotcom worked well and we were all confident of a good run at Lingfield later in the week. An early start on Good Friday found several club members heading south to support Trini- tyelitedotcom and enjoy the delights of a sell-out Lingfield for the inaugural All-Weather Championships. A good break saw our horse, in trademark fashion, blaze a trail over six furlongs. He drifted a little going into the straight and it was touch and go whether he could hold the late challenge from Alben Star. Alas, this is real life and Trinityelitedotcom was relegated to second place as the leaders flashed over the line. Nevertheless, it was a worthwhile journey with good prize money and we now look forward to Trinityelitedotcom’s return to turf in the 5f Stella Artois Condition Stakes at Chester today [Wednesday].
