[ President’s Message ]
This is my last article as National President. I am
making this short and sweet.
It has been an awesome opportunity to serve as your
President. There have been challenges that have presented to our Board but the job has made me a stronger
person and leader. I look so forward to continuing our
travels in our American Coach, attending National,
regional or chapter rallies and meeting more members
as we live out our dream.
As I leave my position as President in Goshen, Indiana
it is such an honor to do so at our 25th Silver Jubilee
celebration. I cannot thank you enough to; my Board
members, all the volunteers who serve as various positions of ACA and the chair persons of each of the committees, and to all of you who have supported me.
To Allied Recreation Group and all our sponsors,
dealers, vendor representatives, etc., a huge HUG
and thank you.
To Bob Frank and the Board – I wish you the best and
would be honored to assist you in any way you may
choose. It’s been such an experience!! And remember
it’s about having fun.
I look forward to seeing you at a local Chapter,
Regional, National rally and especially look forward to
meeting you in Goshen, Indiana for our Silver
Anniversary celebration.
In the meantime, best travels to all of you
and be safe out there!
[ Vice President’s Message ]
For the first time in 14 years, we are currently coachless!
We sold our 2006 Eagle to a wonderful gentleman, Jack
Lott, and his family from Boerne, Texas. He seems to
be enjoying it as much as we did and has already joined
ACA and will be coming to the rally in Goshen. We
were scheduled to pick up our new Eagle as I write this,
but delivery has now been delayed until the first week
in May. We will have to load a trailer with all things
needed to stock our new coach and then tow it up to
Decatur. That will give us a week to settle in before
heading to Goshen to do final preparations for the rally.
By the time you read this, our 25th Anniversary Rally
may be history. I would like to thank all of the people
who worked very hard to pull this event together.
Volunteers are the core of this organization and we
always need new people to step up and help. If you
have never been involved with a rally, a great way to
start is by contacting your Chapter President and
offering to help at a local event. It’s a great way to
get to know more of your fellow owners.
This will be my last letter as ACA Vice President since
I will be assuming the duties of ACA President at the
conclusion of the rally. I would personally like to thank
Pat Adams for all of her work over the past two years.
She has been a great leader and supporter of American
Coach and our association. With everyone’s help,
I hope I can maintain the traditions of this fine
organization and lead it into the future.

Southeast
A huge Southeast “Thank you!” goes out to our
VP/Rally coordinator Rich Forcier and proficient rally
hosts Johnny Spacek and Ken Browning. The same
team hosted our February Torrey Oaks Rally and our
March St. Patrick’s Day rally. We are very fortunate
indeed to have Rich, Johnny and Ken on our team!
Larry & Margaret Carter along with Bill & Carol Kimbrough have once again volunteered to host our annual
Christmas Rally at Sun N Fun in Sarasota, Florida.
This rally continues to grow in attendance each year
and we have the registrations available already for you
to sign up.
The 2016 Eastern Regional will once again be held at
Lazydays at the same time as the Florida RV Supershow.
Registration is different for 2016 as Southeast will not
be collecting registration fees, we are however required
to have a completed registration form.
Southeast is truly honored to have General (retired)
Roy Manor as an active member of our chapter.
An Air Force veteran with 36 years of distinguished
service, General Manor served in World War II and
Viet Nam. The General has been very gracious to share
some of his many experiences as a fighter pilot with us,
including two missions over D-Day. Everyone who
attends the General’s discussions are very grateful. We
look forward to seeing General Manor at future rallies
and hope he continues to share his memories!
In October we will be at Stone Mountain, Georgia, near
Atlanta. Keith & Lynnea Landers with Kevin & Kara
Metcalf will host this rally that includes four nights
camping at Georgia’s number 1 campground as rated by
Woodalls. Our group will view Stone Mountain’s newly updated Lasershow Spectacular in Mountainvision
from a reserved terrace. Keith and his award winning
BBQ team will be providing a wonderful dining experience that includes BBQ, education and entertainment.
Check out Keith’s team at www.plumsuperiorbbq.com
November will bring us “Back to the Keys”, at the Sunshine Key RV Resort and Marina. This rally is already
two thirds full! Located at Mile Marker 39, this is indeed a tropical paradise and November is a great time to
visit, the summer crowd has left and the winter crowd
hasn’t arrived yet. Hosted by Terry (Muffin) & Belinda
Moorefield along with Ken Browning and Johnny
Spacek, this is going to be great! Register and be eligible
for four early (pre-rally) days and four late (post rally)
days at a remarkable low rally rate.
6
We are looking beyond January 2016 and are always
ready to receive your suggestions. Our Vice President
and Rally coordinator Rich Forcier is constantly on the
lookout to fill our schedule with rallies at great locations. Once again, I would like to thank our rally hosts
that make this all possible!
Pauline and I feel very fortunate
to be a part of this chapter and we
hope to see you soon!

Great Lakes
Spring has finally decided it was time to make an appearance and like every year Spring is the time we start
to make our camping plans. Goshen is the first destination on the radar with a pre rally for GLC occurring in
Shipshewana hosted by our VP extraordinaire Bob
Carani and his trusted accomplice Kathy. Bob and
Kathy have assembled a wonderful agenda and visiting
the Amish country is always enjoyable with their hospitality and cultural diversity. Bob decided it was time to
share some of his Italian heritage and has promised the
most amazing Italian dinner at our pre rally, which I’m
sure will have us lined up well in advance.
[ Chapter News ]
Northeast
GLC has had a couple of members sell their coaches recently. Bill and Mary Riggs are enjoying spending time
with their grandchildren in Springfield IL and Lloyd
and Lisa Hodgins liked spending their winters so much
in Mexico they bought a home down there.
On behalf of all the GLC members, we will miss you
and are thankful to have enjoyed your company over the
years and if you happen to get the itch to buy another
motorhome, or pop in for a visit at one of our rallies we
would love to see you.
A couple of our members are also travelling with a
heavy heart since the last magazine article. Many of us
travel with our beloved four legged companions and
not only are they part of our family, they also enrich
our lives far beyond what we provide to them. Bob and
Kathy Carani had to say goodbye to their dog “Shadow”
after a brief illness and Jack and Claudia Rutherford
unexpectedly lost their beloved dog “Tater” while wintering in Florida. No words can relieve your heartache
but take comfort in knowing we are all thinking of you
during this difficult time.
Most of the GLC snowbirds have either made their way
home or about to embark and as I close out this article,
I encourage you to visit the blog of Loren and Sharon
Maurina, http://www.rovingcats.blogspot.ca, who are
returning from their winter destination in California
and enjoying some fabulous time in Yosemite National
Park. The pictures of this national gem are breathtaking
and I look forward to hearing more when we congregate
in Goshen.
I think that sums up what’s happening in our chapter,
Susan and I look forward to seeing you soon in Goshen.
Scott Kellett
GLC
It’s been a warm winter in Florida, but it’s time to head
back to reality and hopefully to Spring in the North
East! We visited with so many friends it is bittersweet
to be leaving, but on the other hand getting back home
means time for grandchildren, veggie garden, flower
gardens, then off to Goshen for the Silver Jubilee!
The NE Chapter will be well represented; we are also
planning a post rally (May 24-27) jointly with the
Happy Wanderers. We’d welcome anyone to stay after
with us, just call the fairgrounds to hold a spot. We
will depart Goshen on Wednesday, after the National
ends on Sunday.
We have new members to welcome, Ruth Ann and
Chuck Nicholls, from PA. We look forward to officially
welcoming them at a rally! Lloyd and Bea Monroe
have also shared with our chapter that they have sold
their coach.
Lloyd is our Past President and “groomed” me to take
the reins from him. Believe me, he is a tough act to follow. Lloyd and Bea put their heart and soul into our NE
Chapter and the National Association for many years.
I have told them I am not removing them from our
email list until they make me, and I hope to welcome
them at our chapter rallies any time! They will be
very busy however, as they just welcomed a new great
grandson. Maybe it is time to stick closer to home
and babysit!
Be safe in your travels and keep your eyes open for you
never know who you will run into! Especially to all
traveling home for the summer and heading to Goshen.
See you then!

South Central
Spring has finally arrived and along with spring
comes the usual thunder storms and severe
weather. Our part of the country is right in the
path of tornados and in March we traditionally have 4. Last week, Oklahoma experienced 8 separate
touchdowns of tornados which doubled our normal March
number in just one day. The closest tornado missed our
house by 6 miles. Lots of people were out of power and
had some wind damage, but thankfully our house missed
all of that. April is usually our most active month for
storms. By the time you read this we should be past the
most active storm period here.
Preparations are ongoing at a fast pace for the Goshen rally.
Pat Adams and Bob and Mary Ann Frank have worked
long and hard along with a host of others to make this
25th Anniversary of ACA a special time to enjoy the fellowship of others within our American Coach Association.
Hope each of you have made your reservations and are
planning to attend and enjoy a great rally. Looks like our
chapter will have over 30 in attendance. Lots of us here
in South Central Chapter area are hitting the road for
our travels. I am spending 2 weeks at the lake fishing this
month. Hopefully we will all remember to check those things that cause
us headaches while on the road.
Engine performance, tires, batteries
and awnings are just a few of the
things I need to pay constant attention to at the beginning
of our travels.
We have several members who are struggling with medical
issues and we request that you to remember our membership during your daily devotions and prayers. Medical
issues come in many different forms and cause both immediate and long term issues.
These, and our service men and women- along with all the
first responders desire and deserve
our prayers of support.
Safe travels to all and until we meet
somewhere down the road,
“GOD BLESS AMERICA”!

Mac Pack
Spring is finally hear for us in Virginia. Everything is
getting green and I am saying hello to my allergies. The
sunshine and warmth is a welcome sight after a cold and
gray winter. We are spending our time over the month
of April getting the yard work done, as well as getting
the motorhome cleaned and serviced for our trip up
to Goshen. We are looking forward to the rally, and I
am sure that everyone will have had a great time at the
Silver Jubilee celebration.
Our next planned rally for MacPack will be in October at the Anchors Down RV Resort in Dandridge,
TN. This is a new Resort located on Douglas Lake and
within 20 miles of Pigeon Forge and Sevierville, TN. Visit their website to see all the Resort offers at www.
anchordownrvresort.com. More information on this rally can be found in the
“rally details” section of this magazine. We’re looking
forward to visiting this area again, and enjoying the
great food, shopping and entertainment.
Travel safe,

“You know Route 66;
but, we’ll bet you don’t know Route 36 !”
Everybody in ACA (and all of America for that matter)
knows probably more that they really want to about the
famous Route 66, the Mother highway of America. But,
do you know about historic Route 36 (designated in
some parts as Interstate 72) which crosses north Missouri (the Chicago-Kansas City highway)? The Missouri Transportation Department has designated this
highway as “The Way of American Genius”.
From the east, you enter the state in Hannibal, home
of Mark Twain. Every summer there is a Mark Twain
festival including the infamous fence painting contest
made famous in Twain’s book, “The Adventures of Tom
Sawyer”. The event is the biggest attraction in Hannibal
for the year and lasts several days.
Halfway across the state you come to the town of
Marceline, where the most famous cartoonist in the
world, Walt Disney, spent his childhood. Walt sold his
first drawing while living in Marceline. There is now a
museum and an elementary school in his honor located
in town.
For all of you trivia buffs, just up the road from Marceline is Chillicothe where the Chillicothe Baking Company became the first company to ever offer for sale,
sliced bread, in 1928. Yes, there is a Sliced Bread “Jam”
held in the summer.
As you go further west you will come to Laclede, MO,
home of General John J. “Blackjack” Pershing, leader of
the American Expeditionary Force in World War I Europe. His boyhood home and the nearby Pershing State
Park are well worth the visit.
Continuing westward you will arrive at the western
border of the state at St. Joseph, home of the eastern
terminus of the Pony Express. The Pony Express mu-
seum is a must see. St. Joseph is also the location of the
last home of the infamous outlaw Jesse James. It was in
this home that Jesse was shot in the back by the “coward” Bob Ford. The home has been restored to the time
of Jesse’s murder. A short distance south of St. Joseph
on Interstate 35 is Kearney, MO which was the home of
the James family. The family cabin still stands and is the
final resting place of Jesse.
Midway between Hannibal and St. Joseph is the quaint
little town of Hamilton, MO. Hamilton was the birthplace and boyhood home of one of the most successful
businessmen in the history of the US, J. C. Penney.
It is also the self proclaimed “Quilting capital of the
world” or at least the internet. The Missouri Star Quilt
Company is housed in several (6 to be exact) downtown
buildings. It seems to be the major downtown inhabitant. They also have a very popular internet site, www.
missouriquiltco.com. Quilters from around the world
stop in just to see the Missouri Quilt Company. Not
bad for a little town of less than 2,000 souls.
So, when you leave Goshen and are headed west, take
some time and travel US 36 as it crosses Missouri. You
won’t be disappointed.

Southwest
The South West Chapter is excited to announce our
next Chapter Rally will be held in Santa Fe, New Mexico beginning Monday July 20th and departing Saturday
July 25th. The rally will be held at Santa Fe Skies R.V.
Resort. The camping fee is only $215, payable directly
to the resort. Anyone who desires to extend their stay
may do so. If you purchase a 6th night, the 7th is free!
To make your reservation call 877-565-0451. Please
drop me or Bill Dettmer an email when you register.
Details such as group outings, restaurants and on site
meal offerings will be forthcoming at a later date.
Our chapter continues to grow and we’re thankful for
that and always excited to reach out to our newest chapter members.
The Southwest Chapter website is being de-bugged if
you will, and is a work in progress by our membership
chair Al Bolger. It was a bit of a challenge getting all
the software updates needed for this task. All of us are
grateful to Al for his efforts.
For us, the last couple of weeks have been pretty busy.
We took the opportunity to attend the FMCA National
Convention in Pomona, California where we were able
to not only have a great time with our fellow ACA area
chapter members, but also to catch up with our ACC
friends. Jim Graham, serving as interim ACC President and his wife Doty, did a wonderful job of hosting
a happy hour at his coach. The weather was beautiful
(hot) and it was quite a show.
10
was gracious enough to put things in motion so that the
mats will be available for purchase in Goshen. These are
2x3 foot durable, made in America- mats made to last.
The logo is formed as part of the mat, not stenciled on.
Proceeds benefit the scholarship program.
Probably as you read this, we will already be headed to
Goshen for the 25th anniversary celebration.
It will be great times catching up with everyone!
Saying for the month:
Live like someone left the gate open.
Till next time,
Tony Ford
President, Southwest Chapter
NorCal/Northwest
We held our Spring Rally at the Jackson Rancheria
Casino March 26th – 30th. Everyone had a great time
and the weather was just perfect. I want to thank Craig
Ortet and Chris for doing our first nights dinner and
also to Erv, Dorothy and Sharon for the next two days
of breakfasts and dinners. There was so much food
that we even had left over’s for Sunday. All commented
on how nice the campground was.
The Ford’s and the Sotelo’s were actively involved volunteering at Pomona. I know I’ve said it before, but I’ve
found that the more I volunteer and get involved, the
more fun I have. Every ACA member should consider
the spirit of volunteerism during our events.
This is my last letter to the ACA magazine as my two
year term is up as of June 30th – We are pleased to have
the following folks volunteer to fill our officer positions
for the coming term: Skip Dieter – President,
Glen Caldwell – VP and Jeannine Caldwell – Secretary.
May they enjoy their new roles, and have as much fun
as I did along the way.
I personally was also busy scoring scholarship applications for our ACA scholarship program. Evaluating 13
applications to award 10 is rewarding and at the same
time challenging. All the applicants are great.
Thanks to everyone who supported
me during my term in office.
I really enjoyed the opportunity to
serve as your president.
Also as a sideline, I got approval for an American Coach

Southern California
The So Cal Chapter recently enjoyed a great rally on
a hilltop overlooking the San Gabriel Valley and the
FMCA Rally. While those who participated in the
FMCA were dry camping, the So Cal Chapter enjoyed a
beautiful park with a clubhouse and full hook-ups! And
enjoy we did with good times, wonderful meals, and
plenty to do at the FMCA during the day. It was quite
special to see Charlie Adcock from time to time in the
midst of his FMCA Presidential duties.
After exploring all there was to offer at FMCA, we
would return to the clubhouse to enjoy some terrific
meals, socializing, and games. A great time was had by
all. In Mid-April, we visited the Flying Flags RV Park
at Buellton in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley. Close by
is the little Danish town of Solvang where you can find
plenty of delicious pastries. This is a unique rally for us
as it was a friends and family rally. Flying Flags has cabins and Air Streams to rent, so we invited our “friends
and family” to attend as well.
As this magazine is being published, we will no doubt
either be in the midst of our Rolling Rally to Goshen,
IN or enjoying the rally itself. We currently have a
group of 27 coaches joining us for the rolling rally
from the West Coast. All of us are looking forward to
celebrating the 25th Anniversary of American Coach
and spending time with all of our American Coach
friends. This will also be Pat Adams last rally as President of ACA. She has made us so proud as a member
of the Southern California Chapter and all that she
accomplished for the American Coach Association.
She handled this position with enthusiasm, grace and a
spirit of cooperation that served this organization well.
Thank you Pat (and Gary as well), for working so hard
for this organization!

Goshen Rally Update
from Rally Master Bob Frank:
This note, due to the time that delivery takes- may
be late getting to you…. But, we felt it was worth
printing, as it will ultimately assist us in getting folks
settled in to the fairgrounds and comfortable
at Goshen….
After talking with Bev at Goshen, she is closing the
campground to everyone except ACA attendees
starting on Thursday, May 14th. They have been
overwhelmed with calls from people trying to confirm
their early reservation there with a certain chapter. She wants Debbie to continue to keep track of the
names and chapters but is unable to accomplish
that task at the campground office. At this point, all
people have to do is show up at the front entrance,
pay their fee for the extra days, and then be directed
by OUR ACA PARKING CREW to their sites. The fairgrounds does not provide an escort service. We will have golf carts starting on Friday for our parking crew to do this. At this point, we probably have
at least 70-80% of people already on site early and
settled into their spaces.
It is extremely important that Debbie be made aware
of everyone’s arrival date. Contact her in advance
at: 805-469-2903 or [email protected]. This
is necessary so that all the 50 amp sites can be used
for those attending the pre-rallies. The coaches who
are assigned to the 30 amp sites for the National
Rally will then need to move early Tuesday morning
to the designated areas.
Thank you for your attention to this update. Contact
us or Debbie if any other issues arise about pre-rallies or arrival dates. Bob and Mary Ann

ACA Scholarship Foundation
The Scholarship Foundation Board is currently reviewing the 13 applications that were submitted this spring
by graduating seniors. It is always a hard decision to
select the 10 who will receive $1000 each to use towards
their further education. The applicants have performed
well not only in their academic achievements but in
sports, volunteer activities and outside employment. All
of these factors are considered in determining the recipients. The award presentation this year is scheduled to
be held at the plant in Decatur in May prior to the rally
in Goshen.
As a reminder, the ACA Scholarship Foundation is a
tax advantaged 501-c-3 Corporation. All donations are
tax deductible and 100% of the funds are given out as
scholarships to the children of the associates who build
and support our beautiful coaches.
At the rally, cookbooks will be sold with all the proceeds
going to the Scholarship Foundation. The recipes were
submitted by ACA members and Sue Rose compiled
the books. I would like to thank her for coordinating
this project. If there are any cookbooks remaining after
the rally, they will be made available to members at
future events.

There’s an APP for that...
by Erv Bretz
Bank and Broker Apps
$4,939.45 Many of you already know there Apps for Banks, and Brokers
There are APPS for most of the banks and Brokers, and I put a few on this page, I thought you would
recognize and enjoy. Check with your bank, credit union, broker, or other Financial institution,
and ask if they have an App for your device, either Android, iPhone, iPad or other devices.
Why do I need an App for my Bank? Good question!! Well lets say ITS YOUR BIRTHDAY, and
each of your loving children send you $100.00 check for your birthday!!! WOW that’s really nice.
I’ll just deposit it went I get home. Well if you have an App for your bank, it’s simple. Most bank
Apps have instructions on how to use the App. First you sign the back of the check, then add your
account number #, then follow the instructions. Take a Picture of the Front of the Check, then the
instructions will say take a picture of the back the check, then type in the $$$$$ amount, and
Bingo you just made a deposit. After the Bank App instructs you that the pictures are acceptable
you can then draw a line across the check, and write ‘deposited Electronically’ and ‘date it’.
It very important that the bank App accepts your pictures!
Generally the funds are good as soon as you see it added to your balance.

In this article I wanted to take the time
to introduce you to one of Freightliner
Custom Chassis latest innovations,
UltraSteer. UltraSteer is our series of
steerable tag axles for luxury RVs. It is
available as either I-Series or B-series.
The new 2016 American Eagle utilizes
the UltraSteer I-Series.
The B-series utilizes a beam type axle
configuration. The I-series utilizes an
independent suspension configuration
including A-arm assemblies similar
to the current Independent Front
Suspension. The performance of the
two versions is similar with regards to
how the axles turns. The I-series offers
slightly better roll stability.
UltraSteer tag axles are a passive steer
tag axle. With UltraSteer, the wheels on
the tag axle follow the ideal turning path
of the front suspension, with forwardmounted tie rods enabling the inside
wheel to have optimal turning range.
The result is a reduction in the curbto-curb turning radius – a significant
advantage over non-steer tag axles In
addition, UltraSteer’s outboard-mounted
shocks are more reactive to roll input,
greatly enhancing ride and handling,
and its wide-track suspension arms
provide increased lateral stiffness, also
improving handling and safety in sudden
maneuvers.
The Ultra steer tag axle allows the tag
wheels to turn up to 12 degrees. This
not only reduces your turning radius,
but also reduces tire wear. The locking
mechanism is air actuated and locks
in a straight ahead position at speed
and reverse and unlocks for low speed
maneuverability. The axle will lock at 20
mph and un-lock at 15mph.
The Ultrasteer tag axle is a great feature
for any luxury RV. I hope you all have
a chance to experience the improved
performance.
Thank You,

I know I have shared a few of these with you before,
but here is a refresher on the endless uses of vinegar!
1. Restore handbags and shoes. Wipe white distilled vinegar on scuffed leather bags and shoes. It will restore
their shine and help hide the marks.
2. Banish weeds. Pour white distilled vinegar on the weeds growing in the cracks of your walkway and driveway.
Saturate the plant so the vinegar reaches the roots.
3. Liven droopy flowers. Don’t throw out cut flowers once they start to wilt. Instead, add two tablespoons of white
vinegar and one teaspoon of sugar to a quart of water. Pour the solution into your vase, and the flowers will perk up.
4. Put an end to itching. Dab a cotton ball soaked in white vinegar on mosquito bites and insect stings. It will stop
them from itching and help disinfect the area so they heal faster.
5. Whiten your teeth. Brush your teeth once a week with white distilled vinegar. Dip your toothbrush into the
vinegar and brush thoroughly. It will help prevent bad breath, too.
6. Make nail polish last longer. Before you apply your favorite polish, wipe your nails with a cotton ball soaked in
white distilled vinegar. The clean surface will help your manicure last.
7. Keep car windows frost-free. Prevent windows from frosting over in a storm by coating them with a solution of
three parts white distilled vinegar to one part water. The acidity hinders ice, so you won’t have to wake up early to
scrape off your car.
8. Let your dog shine. Spray your dog with one cup white distilled vinegar mixed with one quart water. The solution
is a cheap alternative to expensive pet-care products, plus the vinegar will help repel pests like fleas and ticks.
9. Battle litter-box odor. Cat litter can leave behind an unwelcome smell. Eliminate it by pouring a half-inch of white
distilled vinegar into the empty litter box. Let stand for 20 minutes, then rinse with cold water.
10. Kill bacteria in meat. Marinating in vinegar knocks out bacteria and tenderizes the meat. Create a marinade by
adding ¼ cup balsamic vinegar for every 2 pounds of meat to your own blend of herbs and spices. Let the meat
sit anywhere from 20 minutes to 24 hours, depending on how strong you want the flavor, then cook it in the
morning without rinsing.
11. Prevent cracked eggs. Prevent eggs from cracking as they hard-boil by adding two tablespoons of white vinegar
to the water. The eggs will stay intact, and the shells will peel off more easily when you’re ready to eat them.
12. Steam away a microwave mess. Fill a small bowl with equal parts hot water and vinegar, and place it in the
microwave on high for 5 minutes. As the steam fills the microwave, it loosens the mess, making clean up a breeze.
13. Repair DVDs. If you have a worn DVD that skips or freezes, wipe it down with white distilled vinegar applied to
a soft cloth. Make sure the DVD is completely dry before reinserting it into the player.
14. Get those last drops. If you can’t get that final bit of mayonnaise or salad dressing out of the jar, dribble in a few
16
drops of vinegar. Put the cap on tightly and shake. The remaining condiments will slide out.
Election Update- re-voting is still in progress
As you are reading this page, you are reminded that the balloting process for the runoff election for Vice President of ACA is still going on. That process, according to the bylaws of the organization, is scheduled to run
from mid-April to the end of May.
If you have not exercised your vote yet, now is a great time to do so- as time is really getting short. Somewhere, likely on your desk, is an envelope addressed to you that may not have been acted upon yet. Here’s
your chance….
Remember, we sent this to you as, believe it or not- the votes that were originally cast resulted in an exact
“tie” vote, with both candidates receiving exactly the same number of votes for election to Vice President for
2015/2016. Our bylaws required that, in this unlikely event, another ballot is required for a runoff election.
OFFICE OF VICE PRESIDENT: To be elected as Vice President for ACA for one 2 year term, to commence
after the votes have been counted and the winner has been determined in this runoff election.
After completing your vote, fold the Ballot and place into the enclosed envelope marked
“ENCLOSED BALLOT ONLY”- seal the ballot, then place it into the larger envelope addressed
to Janice Thompson, ACA Membership Services. SEAL, STAMP AND POSTMARK THE RETURN
ENVELOPE WITH THE ENCLOSED BALLOT BY MAY 30, 2015. Any ballots postmarked after MAY
30, 2015 cannot not be accepted.
On the outside of the envelope addressed to Janice Thompson, you must either print or sign
your name and fill in your ACA Number. Your ACA# can be found on the address label of the
envelope the ballot arrived in- or on your membership badge. If neither are available, please
request your number by emailing [email protected].

It is with deepest sympathy that we write this note to everyone. Long time Mac Pack president

Spring 2016
“Back to the Beach Rally”
Ocean Lakes Campground
Myrtle Beach, SC
May 9th through 14th, 2016
This note is just some initial information regarding the
next upcoming national ACA rally…. As you know, there
is no fall rally this year, so spring of next year is our next
national eventWhen you set about choosing a rally location- the terms
“destination spot” and “location” come totally into
play. In the spring of 2016, we’re heading for Ocean
Lakes Family Campground, one of the very few 10-10-10
rated campgrounds on the planet. Our rally team has
put together a week of fun and entertainment at a truly
memorable location- at the perfect time of the year to
kick off your summer travels.
Meals, entertainment and vendors will be housed in the
17,000 square foot recreation building, which by the way
is only 180 feet from the Atlantic Ocean. Flip flops and
snorkels are advised…. (kidding)
We’ve reserved 200 full hookup sites for attendees, on
the week of May 9th to 14th. Most of these sites are located within a short distance of the beach, so you should
be able to hear surf each night to ease you to sleep after
a day of fun.
Myrtle Beach itself is a veritable playground of different activities…. From golf to restaurants of all types and
descriptions…. it includes a boardwalk, promenade,
shopping of all kinds- and all things to do. There is over
800,000 square feet of just lumber in the newly completed boardwalk structure- a great spot to relax and enjoy
the ocean, the salt air ambiance… and the gently rolling
waves.
Our Association has seen fit to have two national rallies
in this venue over the past 25 years…. The first event was
in 2002, and then another in 2007. Both events were
wildly successful, with nearly 300 motor homes in attendance at each one.
At this point, please reserve the dates for this event- all
of the information and registration forms will be available soon, just watch for them either online or here in
this publication…. You’ll have mucho funo….

Reporting on the bylaw changes:
At the last two Board of Directors meetings, one in Marion the other in Las Vegas, the board discussed and subsequently voted upon
two items of the bylaws that they feel were in need of modification. The first dealt with classes of membership, in Article 3, the
second dealt with the term limits imposed on association presidents, in Article 7. On December 20, 2014 the Board voted on the change
to Article 2.1 and article 5.5.
I am pleased to notify all members that each of these were fully supported and have been officially passed by the number of positive votes cast in the recent election. As you know, all changes to the bylaws must be voted upon by the membership at large. I have
taken the opportunity to re-print these four items that are now being incorporated into our bylaws. The full document, along with
all of our operating documents and financial statements are always available online at the ACA website, for now, this is a synopsis of
what was modified. The updated document will be posted very soon, if it hasn’t been by press time.
I hope to see many of you in Goshen to celebrate our “Silver Jubilee” anniversary,
Sincerely,
Pat Adams, President, ACA
PROPOSED CHANGES TO ARTICLE 2 – PURPOSE
Below are the proposed changes to the bylaws-Paragraph 2.1 will be amended as follows:
2.1 The purpose of the ACA shall be to encourage, foster and promote the interest of motorhoming among past and present owners of Allied Recreation Group’s American Allegiance, American Dream, American Eagle, American Heritage, American Tradition, American Revolution,
Revolution, and Limited motorhomes, as well as any motor home produced in the future and badged by Allied Recreation Group as an American
Coach (hereinafter the “Eligible Motor Coaches”); and to provide an organization encouraging camaraderie, motor home rallies and trips, motor
home information exchange among its members, as well as information exchange with the manufacturer of these motorhomes.
PROPOSED CHANGES TO ARTICLE 3 - MEMBERSHIP
Below are the proposed changes to the bylaws-Paragraph 3.1 will be amended as follows:
3.1 There shall be four (4) classes of membership: Regular, Lifetime, Emeritus and Honorary.
An additional paragraph would also need to be added to authorize and explain the addition of the Emeritus membership status:
3.5 Emeritus members shall be those persons who have been prior owners and past members of ACA, previously owning an eligible motor
coach. Upon application, this membership status must be approved by the ACA Board of Directors. The amount of annual dues and rally participation fees will be set by the Board of Directors. Emeritus members shall not be entitled to vote or hold office in the Association, but shall be
entitled to participate in all other activities, rallies and meetings of the ACA.
Rational for proposed change:
To form a fourth class of membership which will allow continued membership for prior owners who have sold their qualifying motor coaches, but
who wish to stay current with the activities, attend rallies and events of ACA, and receive the magazine and other forms of Club communication.
PROPOSED CHANGES TO ARTICLE 7 – OFFICERS
Below are the proposed changes to the Bylaws-Proposed Presidential Term Limits:
Current language in Paragraph 7.2: No member may serve more than one (1) two (2) year term as President of the ACA.
Paragraph 7.2 would be amended as follows:
Proposed change to Paragraph 7.2: No member may serve more than two (2) two (2) year term(s) as President of the ACA.
Rational for proposed change:
Currently only the office of National President of the American Coach Association carries with it a single term restriction. This proposed change
would allow a member who is elevated to the office of National President to serve one or two terms, not necessarily in a consecutive manner. This
allows for more time to effect change in the organization from the office of President and/or to allow a formerly term limited National President to
be re-elected for another term should that be their desire.
PROPOSED CHANGES TO ARTICLE 5 – MEETING OF MEMBERSHIP
Below are the proposed changes to the bylaws-Paragraph 5.5 will be amended as follows changes in bold print:
Attendance at all of the ACA meetings and activities shall be limited to members of the ACA, their family members and registered guests staying
in the ACA member’s coach and have paid a fee to attend, representatives of Allied Recreation Group motorhomes, and representatives of those
companies providing integral components for American Coach motorhomes.

Technical Tips #82©

Is it Time for Lithium-Ion
Batteries in RV’s?
Introduction:
With the advances in Battery Technology and the proliferation of battery powered gadgets in addition to partial
or fully electric vehicles, one may wonder: “Could I replace the Coach or Chassis Batteries in my RV with one
of the newest types and benefit from that exchange?”
I asked that question in mid-2014 after three years of
aggravation with the batteries and charging system on
my coach. I answered it in the affirmative. I now have
a Lithium-Ion Coach battery and expect that it will be
the last coach battery this RV will have. Hopefully the
information contained in the next few TechTips will provide the information you may have been looking for and
assist you in deciding whether converting is something
you want to do. Disclaimer: Some of the photos on my
supplier’s website are of my coach before and after installation. Other than having bought our battery from
them, we have no financial or other interest in their
business. This TechTip is for your information only.
Background:
Rather than bore you here with all of the issues we
faced and had to overcome with our existing batteries
and charging system, I’ll refer you to my Blog at www.
RV-PartsPlus.com under the topic Battery Charging Issues, dated January 2014, Parts 3 & 4. Our RV suffered from a large number of issues that related to initial manufacturing deficiencies, defective products (and
replacements) that severely affected the longevity and
reliability of the battery power systems.
While on a trip this summer, we determined that the
three year old coach batteries were not able to provide dependable power after boondocking overnight
with the inverter turned off. This was unusual and after
checking each battery I determined that two of the four
Trojan 6 Volt AGM batteries were no longer providing
dependable power and needed replacement. I had already replaced the Chassis batteries, (that had been
20
replaced under warranty), six months earlier, and the
engine started as it never had before. Logic said just
replace the Coach batteries (all four of them) and carry
on – after all, I got three years out of them and with all
the problems, the life of the Coach batteries was likely
influenced by all of those issues. The bugs seem to be
out of the system and with new batteries we should be
able to enjoy dependable power.
Our RVing involves regular boondocking without power,
in addition to staying at Canadian campgrounds that
are not equipped with many 50 Amp campsites. Further
compounding the power problems, some do not have
dependable 30 Amp power, especially when demand is
high in the hot summer months. Thus having dependable power options is a necessity for us.
When checking AGM Battery pricing, both in the US and
in Canada, I found that the net price was less in Canada after accounting for the currency differential and the
core allowance. The co-author of my book, Ron Jones,
had replaced his batteries (both Coach and Chassis)
with Lithium-Ion Batteries three and a half years earlier
and he was very satisfied with them. During a phone
call, he asked if I had considered changing the coach
batteries to Lithium-Ion ones? Ron has been full timing
for over ten years and I could see the benefit to him, especially when he boondocks. In addition, since he was
one of the first RVers to convert to Lithium-Ion, his battery supplier wanted to see the coach each year to examine the batteries and see how they were faring. The
report, after thoroughly testing them annually, was that
they were as good as new. The company also made
some running improvements involving the packaging of
the cells during this time. After talking about it with him, I
thought it might be wise to add this type of battery to my
inquiry list. His parting comment was that I had better
be sitting down when asking for the price: they are not
cheap. That is true!
The Search:
I contacted Ron’s supplier, Lithionics Inc.,( http://www.
lithionicsbattery.com) which recommended and sells
a 400 Amp-Hour Battery and I obtained a price. After
picking myself up off the ground, I started doing some
research on other alternatives. One complicating factor
was that it would be three weeks to a month to get a
new battery, which made it more difficult to fit into our
schedule. I also contacted a competitor, Smart Battery
(http://www.lithiumion-batteries.com) and chatted with
both their US technical sales personnel and their Ca-

nadian counterpart. Pricing for a 300 Amp-Hour Battery, which we determined would likely be sufficient for
my coach needs, was about three times the cost of the
AGM replacements I had researched and they could
supply a battery within a week. I concluded that if the
decision was to be based on short term, out of pocket
cost, then there is no justification for the Lithium-Ion
Battery. Looking into the longer term with the cost of
AGM battery replacements then the cost-benefit analysis balance started to shift. We keep our coaches for
many years and that entered into the equation as well.
As you will see there are many indirect benefits of the
upgrade which make RVing more fun and less stressful. How do you value those benefits?
answers a lot of questions about quality, construction,
safety (i.e. fire hazard) and highlights the fact that a
Lithium-Ion battery is truly a “Smart” battery with a
computer control board that manages the battery.
However that is where it gets interesting. For comparison, I have included the specifications for the LithiumIon Battery and the matching one for the Trojan 6V
AGM battery, adjusted for the four batteries connected
in series, parallel as they would be when installed in our
coach.

One of the most amazing statistics is the capacity of a
battery after 2000 charge/discharge cycles is 80 percent of what the battery delivered when new. Combine
that with the fact that there is no memory effect, meaning it will always fully charge, (not like Ni-Cad tool batteries) and you have very powerful battery for the long

no corrosion and maintenance is zero. There is a 1:34

tech, newer technology
electronics, etc. - yet
somehow they are also
somewhat similar to the
older coaches, and to us,
they are all quite familiar.
Funny how you can go into
…say…a 1995 Eagle and see
similar lines, designs and
workmanship that you see in
the newer coaches, kind of
like looking at a grandparent
and seeing similar features
as the grandchild. Which
tells me, that even with
the Fleetwood bankruptcy,
subsequent buyout and
continuing production,
22
GROUP
the history and heritage of
American Coach is still there.
The other consistent feature
of American Coach through
the years has been access to
a multitude of information
about these great coaches
through the AC Yahoo Group
forum. Currently we have
2,498 members sharing
anything and everything
they know about their
coaches. New members who
are joining who are buying
the older coaches have a
wealth of information since
most of us on the forum
have owned more than one.
For new members buying
newer coaches, there is
also a wealth of information
because so many members
want to learn about the new
coaches, and the best way to
learn something yourself is
to help someone else learn
– thus the value to all in
sharing on the forum.
The other added benefit to
being on the forum is all the
“ready made” friends you
have! When you show up at
a rally, all you have to do is
introduce yourself to other
forum members and instantly
it’s like you’re with a long lost
friend! Conversation quickly
turns to the latest topics
being discussed and before
you know it, happy hour is
over, it’s dark outside and
you realize you have an early
wake up call and you should
have been to bed hours ago!
Anyway, as you can see,
there is really no downside to
joining the forum. No matter
what year coach you have,
you’ll want to join the fun!
We invite you to visit awhile
and get to know us and get a
feel for the benefits derived
from our forum. To get to
the AC Yahoo site, go to the
American Coach Association
web site at http://www.
myamericancoach.
com and scroll down to the
bottom of the page. Click
on the “Yahoo” and you’ll
be taken to the group site.
Best of all, the price is right
– FREE – and I can just about
guarantee you won’t
regret it!

BEST EVER CHOCOLATE CHUNK COOKIES
YIELD: about 2 dozen medium cookies
TOTAL TIME: 3+ hours, for dough chilling in step 6
INGREDIENTS:
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt, optional and to taste
6 ounces (1 cup) semi-sweet chocolate chips
6 ounces bittersweet or dark baking chocolate, chopped into bite-sized chunks
(put chocolate bar in zip lock and pound with a mallet to break up)
DIRECTIONS:
To the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter on low speed
until smooth, 1 to 2 minutes.
Add the sugars and beat on medium-high speed until creamed and well combined, about 3 min.
Stop, scrape down the sides of the bowl, and add the egg, vanilla, and beat on medium-high speed
until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
Stop, scrape down the sides of the bowl, and add the flours, corn starch, baking soda, salt, and
mix until just combined, about 1 minute.
Add the chocolate chips and chunks, and either fold in by hand or beat for a few seconds on low speed.
Using a 2-ounce cookie scoop, form heaping mounds weighing 2 1/4-ounces each (weighed on a
scale, which is approximately a scant 1/4-cup measure. Dough mounds will look large for their
weight because there’s lots of chocolate pieces adding bulk). Place mounds on a large plate or
tray, cover with plasticwrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, up to 5 days.
Preheat oven to 350F, line a baking sheet with a Silpat Non-Stick Baking Mat, parchment, or
spray with cooking spray. Place dough mounds on the baking sheet, spaced at least 2 inches
apart; I bake 8 cookies per sheet. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until barely golden brown around the
edges, even if slightly undercooked in the center, noting the tops will not be browned and will be
pale. Do not cook longer than ten minutes as cookies will darken and firm up as they cool .
Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing and transferring to a
rack to finish cooling. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days
or in the freezer for up to 3 months. Alternatively, unbaked cookie dough can be stored in an
airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, so consider baking only as many cookies as
desired and save the remaining dough to be baked in the future when desired.

Greetings from American Coach!
Wow, time is flying [as I am sure you know it does]. As I am writing this letter, the sun is shining and
we’re finally breaking into some spring weather. All signs of good things to come. Warmer weather, Longer days, and roadmaps to begin our summer travels.
While good things are happening for you on the road, great things are continuing to happen here at
American Coach as well. Attention on our all-new 2016 American Eagle continues to accelerate. By the
time you read this issue, the Eagle will have already made an appearance at more than a dozen shows
around the country and dealerships are filling their lots. The response has been tremendous thus far.
We have recently launched an all-new, dedicated, 2016 American Eagle website that features a 360-degree exterior motorcoach photo tour and interactive design-styling capabilities. The website includes
an expanded image gallery with high-resolution interior and exterior photographs. If you haven’t had a
chance to see the Eagle in-person, visit www.americancoach.com/eagle to see the all-new website.
With more than 200 product enhancements, changes, and redesigned features, such as the exclusive,
patent-pending emergency exit door and advanced technology designs, the 2016 Eagle must be seen to
be believed. As for the rest of the American Coach line-up, we’re right in the midst of rolling out many of our 2016
models. We’ve made a number of significant changes. I think many of you will be excited to learn about
the new highlights for 2016 American Tradition. The 2016 Tradition now offers an optional Cummins®
600HP ISX15 for the 45’ floorplans; the 42’ floorplans offer a Cummins® 500HP ISX12 engine, giving you
more horsepower at a lower price.
We have also introduced two new exterior graphic schemes, offering both contemporary and traditional
graphic designs. The exterior television was made standard and the size was increased to 40”. The inside
features newly-designed interior décor and styling, including: a new heated floor tile pattern with tile rug
inlay, under-counter LED accent lighting, new furniture, fabrics, valances, backsplashes, and headboards.
We have even more planned for the future. Continue to keep an eye on our newsletters, website, and
social media (Facebook & Twitter) for our upcoming product updates. If you have not subscribed to our
American Coach Newsletter yet, I welcome you to do so. We want to keep you well informed of all of the
great news happening here. It’s a great way to stay in contact with us. You can join by going to the “owners” tab on the American Coach website.
As always, our team is busily focused on engineering the highest quality, luxury coaches for you and your
family. As always, please feel free to reach out to me at any time. Your feedback is extremely important
to me and quite valuable to our continued journey together.
Pursue Your Passion,
Lenny Razo

Wanderers and Mac Pack chapters
This is our third trip to Ocean Lakes
Campground in the past 25 years- We
had wonderful rallies there in 2002 and
again in 2007- so, it has been quite
some time… People keep asking when
we are going back- here is your answer…. Interestingly, we had right at
300 motor homes in attendance each
previous time. It is truly a destination
spot- and is one of the very few campgrounds rated 10-10-10 in existence.
As we move through the year, you’ll see
more details and information emerge
both on line and in this magazine- We
sincerely hope you’ll join us for some
great spring fun. Events information and
the registration materials will be posted
in the magazine and on line shortly for
your convenience.
