TMHA 2013 Annual Report
board members ..... ... Attorney Gilbert L. Rieger, Chair – Attorney Rieger was appointed to the Board by the Trumbull County Court of Common Pleas on May 1, 1999. His current term expires on July 11, 2017. Tackling tthe he Tasks at Hand ..... ... We are proud of the work we do every day at Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority. Constantly and without fanfare, we go about our duties diligently, with nary a complaint uttered and to successful conclusion. It has been a mantra we have stood by for years. We are in the people business; for without the people, we simply have no reason to be here. A singular focus on the residents we serve keeps us centered on carrying out our day-to-day tasks in a professional and efficient manner. At the end of the day, our work will speak for itself. At TMHA, we take our mission seriously. Recently, I was challenged in a professional workshop to examine “mission” from a different perspective. In this session, the participants were simply asked to respond to the query “Why do we open our doors every day?” Once that is determined, a clearer mission statement can be realized. I often state in our community that TMHA is a mission-driven organization. I do not mouth our actual statement when I make that comment, for it is relatively protracted. It reads: The task at hand in this exercise was to capture the mission in a more concise manner. The TMHA Board and our entire organization will rise to that challenge in the coming year. Whatever that “statement” becomes, we will continue to handle our day-to-day tasks under the guided principle of respecting people and property. We will continue to embrace the values of our community and utilize our resources in a manner that will aid people in building their lives. That’s what we do. And we will continue to do so. Ronda Bonekovic – The Trumbull County Commissioners appointed Ms. Bonekovic to the Board on July 17, 2002. Her current term expires on July 24, 2016. Doreen Edgerson – The Mayor of Warren appointed Ms. Edgerson to the Board on January 16, 2007. Her current term expires on July 24, 2019. Thomas Ross – The Mayor of Warren appointed Mr. Ross to the Board on July 25, 2005. His current term expires on July 24, 2015. B A C K ( L E F T T O R I G H T ) : Doreen Edgerson, Gilbert L. The $7 million complex is being developed by Trumbull Housing Development Corp. in conjunction with Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority and Paragon Residential Solutions to offer housing for seniors. Financing for the initiative is provided through HUD Project Pre-Development and Section 202 grants, Ohio Low Income Housing Tax Credit and Housing Development Assistance programs via the Ohio Housing Finance Agency and Warren Trumbull Housing Consortium HOME Funds. The development, Eagle Creek Senior Apartments, will ensure that low-income seniors will have access to comfortable and affordable housing in Hubbard. The building is designed to create a social atmosphere that fosters self-sufficiency while providing services that support the changing needs of the residents. Eagle Creek Senior Apartments will consist of 34 one-bedroom units that are ideal for seniors. Its interior will boast a community room with kitchenette, lounge, patio, lobby, coin-operated laundry and on-site manager’s office. Features include maintenance-free living: 24-hour maintenance response, complete accessibility, emergency pull cord systems, an automated door access control system and indoor mailing facilities. “We are very excited for our community and its seniors,” said Hubbard Service Director Dan Livingston. “This development is sure to be a wonderful asset to the area and we are looking forward to its completion.” Teaming Up to Feed the Hungry Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority, YouthBuild Trumbull County, Family & Community Services and Valley Counseling Services conducted their first annual Thanksgiving food drive to combat hunger. The months of October and November saw the combined employee efforts amass canned and boxed non-perishable food donations for those in need throughout Trumbull County. The Thanksgiving food drive provided nearly 200 local families with all the fixings for a festive Thanksgiving meal. “Our staff and community partners are to be commended for ensuring our collective constituents were able to enjoy tremendous and nutritious meals this holiday season.” – TMHA Executive Director Donald W.
