the meeting to order at 7:30 pm.
Pledge of Allegiance
Reading and Approval of
Minutes.
Motioned

Mike
Kane,
seconded by Dave Zerbe and
approved unanimously.

those killer squirrels?”
MEMBER CAR OF THE MONTH
Dave and Debra Zerbe are the proud parents of
this 2002 ZO6. Dave’s Chevy lifestyle started in
2001 with the adoption of a 94 LT1 convertible
when he walked onto the car dealer’s lot, saw the
94 and told the sales person that he wanted it
without even a test drive . After further research
and learning more of the Corvettes, Dave knew
that his next adoption was going to be the ZO6.
After many months of searching car lots and the
internet Dave signed the papers in 2005 and
brought home the ZO6. Dave and Debra still have
both Corvettes, enjoy cruising and the friendship
of fellow corvette owners.
Presentation of Checks for Del
State Fair workers: The FSCC members
who worked the State Fair casino parking chose
Families of the Fallen and Mended Hearts as
their charities this year.
Dave Zerbe presented a $740 check to the
president of The Dover Chapter of Mended
Hearts, one of the recipients of monies made
during the 10 days of the fair. Attending to
accept the check was Carmen Campanicki,
president of the group. He thanked our club for
the check saying they were a group that did not
have any means of income, only through donations.
The Mended Hearts members visit patients before
surgeries to provide candid answers to questions
and offer reassurance. They visit patients postsurgery to check on their progress, offer support,
and provide a vivid first-hand illustration that there
is life after cardiac surgery. We have a couple of
members that have been visited by this group;
Darlene Hurley and Mel Geiger.
Next, Dave Zerbe presented a $740 check to the
Kim Landes, a spokesperson for the
USO
Families of the Fallen at Dover Air Force Base,
the other recipient of monies made during the 10
days of the fair. The USO Families of the Fallen
Support Program was developed in response to
Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates approving the
policy change that allows media coverage of
dignified transfer operations of fallen service
members’ remains. Before the policy was
changed, less than 1 percent of families and
friends came to Dover AFB to witness the return
of their loved ones. Since the policy change in
April 2009, more than 78 percent of families and
friends have come to Dover AFB.
The
USO Families of the Fallen Support Manager office
is at the Charles C. Carson Center for Mortuary
Affairs located at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware.
When a branch of the military notifies the family
of a casualty, they also inform the USO’s Family of
the Fallen Support Manager of the family's flight
itinerary. Flights carrying the remains of America’s
fallen arrive at all hours, and families do not have
much time to get to Dover. To smooth the way,
USO centers in airports where families will be
passing through are alerted, most often in
Philadelphia, so staff can be ready to assist in any
way.
As a family makes their way to
2
Dover AFB, USO staff and volunteers work
with airport security officials, airlines and
vehicle rental companies to help family
members make their flights and meet ground
transportation. If family members are coming
to Dover from multiple locations, USO staff
helps them connect, and sometimes help book
return flights so families can travel back
together.
In addition, the USO provides
snacks and beverages for the Center for
Families of the Fallen and supplies, food and
other provisions to the Fisher House for
Families of the Fallen, a temporary lodging
facility adjoining the center where families can
stay while awaiting the return of their fallen
loved one.
From the President: Bruce wanted to let
members know that the 40th Anniversary coins
remaining after the event are for sale to
members that could not attend, or would like
more than one. They are available for $5 from
Rick Berry.
Bruce also brought up the subject of having a
Quartermaster for the club. It was suggested
that someone take the position and be in charge
of all club supplies. The club has many assets
that are scattered among members. A deeper
discussion on this position will be started at the
October meeting.
Treasurer: Submitted by Kathy Olechny.
Beginning Balance
Deposits
Withdrawals
Ending Balance
A motion was made by Marianne Callahan and
seconded by Sharon Reed, to approve the
treasurer’s report, passed unanimously.
Kathy
wanted to remind everyone that the excessive
withdrawals were due to the 40th Anniversary
party, Charity donations, and misc. expenses.
She also wanted to remind everyone that the new
year will create recurring expenses like insurance,
etc. so don’t get used to seeing this much money
in the treasury.
Membership: We currently have 70 paid
members. Dues are due now. Mail your checks
to FSCC, PO Box 275 Camden, DE
Corresponding Secretary: Anyone knowing of
a member or a member’s family that is under the
weather, let Tracy Solloway know the names and
addresses.
Publicity: Carole Ann has been in close contact
with the newspapers and hopes to see better
representation for our club soon.
Vice President: Chatty Reed reminder:
Oct. will be at the Shawnee Country Club in
Milford at the new Nick & Charlie’s .
Nov. will be at Roma Restaurant in Dover.
Dec. will be at Midway Slots in the Gold
Room for our Annual Christmas Mtg/Party.
Parade Chairman: Sharon has two signup
sheets for homecomings.
Fri. Oct 7 – CR Homecoming – usually like up at
4:30. She needs 16-18 Vettes.
Fri. Oct 14 – Poly Tech Homecoming – they need
6 Vettes, line up is around 6pm.
If interested, contact Sharon.
Secretary: Be sure to check the website
under “News” for any upcoming events
sponsored by FSCC or any other car show.
And there are always new pictures under the
“Gallery”.
National Corvette Museum - Jim Murray
reported that there is so much going on at the
Museum that it is hard to report on just a few.
There are the usual car raffles, Flint Bricks for
sale, etc. Check out for yourself www.corvettemuseum.com – The club banner
3
that has flown over the parking lot at the
museum has been sent back to Ed Marcelle
and it may be given to one of our sponsors to
display. Rick and Chatty voiced their opinions
on supporting the museum by helping them
purchase more land for the museum.
The next anniversary celebration at the
museum will be in 2014 – mark your calendars
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Reward Points – As we start another club
year, we honor those members who
participated in club functions since last
September and accumulated Reward Points.
We had 40 members reach the 200 point level
and they have earned Dipstick Dollars. These
dollars are good for in club use, like paying
dues, buying patches or cling on’s, and they
are taken by RWM Stitching, Signature
Stitching and Pete Thompson Designs for
purchasing shirts or other club apparel. If you
earned dollars and did not attend the meeting,
your earnings will be mailed to you. Top
winners this year are Rick Berry and Kathy
Olechny, who will get club shirts announcing
their achievements. Bruce and Donna, who
got the overall most points, will add the year
“2011” to their last year’s winner shirts.
At the end of this newsletter will be a copy of
the final totals of Reward Points. Thanks to
Marianne and her committee for keeping the
rules and regulations up to date.
Past Events
40th Anniversary Gala: - Rick reported that
the event was a huge success. We had 138
people attend, current members and many past
members. Rick has gotten many phone calls
about the turnout and presentations. Anyone
missing the party missed a really good time.
Pictures on the web site.
Smyrna Fire Company Car Show on Saturday
August 6th at the Willis Automall on Route 13
south of Smyrna. FSCC had winners in many
categories including Eddie Stone for his Chevelle,
Dino Garnett for his 2008 Jet Stream Blue Z06,
Chuck Kittl for his 2011 Jet Stream Blue coupe,
and Chatty Reed for his 2000 Red coupe. The
club also won a trophy for Best Club Participation.
Grotto Pizza with the Beachcombers – The
Beachcombers invited our club to come down to
the new Grotto’s in Milford to meet their sister
club, the Beachcombers from Virginia Beach, VA.
This was the night before the car show, Friday
August 19 so the trip down was eventful. Raining
like mad and Friday night beach traffic didn’t
deter FSCC members. We made a good showing
and met some new Corvette friends.
Beachcombers Car Show on Saturday August
20th at the 1st State Chevrolet complex on Route
113 near Georgetown. Taking awards at this
show was Bruce Ballard for his 2005 Blue coupe,
Jim Jones with his 1990 White Coupe, Mike Waal
with his 1980 Black Coupe, Mike Copes with his
1959 Roman Red Convertible and Eddie Stone
with his 1971 Ontario Orange Convertible. Eddie
also won a trophy for his Chevelle. And the club
won the trophy for Best Club Participation. And
everyone attending had a great day.
Corvettes @ Carlisle - Many members are
attending the event on August 26, 27, 28 in
Carlisle, PA. Rick talked about the new color for
the 2012 Corvette, Carlisle Blue Metallic. A
beautiful light blue color. Most people left early
on Saturday or even late Friday night with the
coming hurricane suppose to create bad road
conditions. But those that went on Thursday and
Friday had a great time.
4
FSCC Ladies Night Out – On Wednesday
August 31st, the Ladies of the club traveled up
to Chesapeake City to the Chesapeake Inn for
cocktails and dinner out on the deck. There
were 10 Ladies of the FSCC and one
designated driver (Sharon Reed’s daughter).
Attending, and having a ball, were Carole
Kisner, Julie Moran, Donna Ballard, Holly
Kehler, Sharon Reed, Tammy Mounts,
Marianne Callahan, Darlene Hurley, Vickie
Thompson, Kathy Olechny. Be sure to see the
pictures on the web site. The Wax ‘n Chat
guys are jealous…. Another outing coming in
October.
Milford VFW Car Show – Again FSCC put on
a good showing at this car show. Winning
trophy’s were Eddie Stone with his 1971
Ontario Orange Convertible, Angelo Rosetti
with his 1997 Red Coupe, Tyler Bullock with
his 2007 Red Coupe, and Norm Kiaunis with
his 2011 Graphite Coupe. Good job, guys…
Baltimore Grand Prix – Over Labor Day
weekend, members Rick and Linda Berry and
Ed Marcelle traveled over to Baltimore to see
the Inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix. The
three-day slate of races culminated with a 75lap entry in the Indy Car open-wheel racing
series. Will Power of Team Penske won the
main event, pulling 5 points behind the series
leader, Dario Franchitti of Target Chip Ganassi,
who finished fourth. Other events included
qualifying and practice on Friday, and
Saturday’s American LeMans 100, in which
several vehicle classifications with two-person
crews raced simultaneously

Adopt-a-Highway Sat. Sept 24 – 9 am at
Hazlettville Road and Apple Grove School
Road, west of Dover. Carole reported that due
to the stealing of the signs that read “First
State Corvette Club” from the Apple Grove
School Road, the highway department will be
installing new signs that read “Adopted by
First State Corvette Club” in hopes of deterring
thieves. After picking up treasures, we will
adjourn to Hall’s in Wyoming for breakfast.
Come join us. You never know what you will
find…..
Chicago Uno’s Corvette Cruise In – Sat.
Sept 24 in Dover at 5 pm to 8 pm. Each

old Corvette owners (I didn’t mean “Old”),
aged maybe – aren’t we all aged? See you
there. Bring your chairs.

Again we will be manning Gate 15 at the
Dover Downs fall race. Sign up sheet was at
this meeting. If you want to work Marianne

goes towards our scholarships. And at the

FSCC Christmas Party – There will be a change
in venue this year for our Christmas get together.
On Sunday December 4th, we will meet at the
Gold Room at the Harrington Midway Casino for
our December meeting and Christmas Party. The
times will be 5:30 to 9:30, $15 per person in
advance. Each person should bring a wrapped
gift valued a minimum of $15 for a gift exchange.
We had outgrown Dover Downs with our large
attendance
now
and
Harrington
can
accommodate up to 140 people. And again this
year we will have a raffle to raise money. The
Christmas committee is looking for donations of
items to put into the raffle. It does not have to
6
be Corvette themed, anything will do. For
more information, contact Marianne, Sandy or
Darlene.
Darlene made a motion to allow a budget of
$1000 for the party, seconded by Ed Marcelle,
passed unanimously.
Car Show Meeting – Carole and Chatty will
be having a Post-Car Show meeting on Sept
21, Wed, at 6:30 in the Patterson Schwartz

Good of the Organization
Thank You notes – Bruce read three Thank
You notes he received. One from scholarship
winner Amanda Rochemann, one from
scholarship winner J.T.Robbins and one from
Nicholas Kiaunis and his Troop.
Kathy Olechny mentioned that the books
need to audited. Bruce will work on getting a
task force together to do this soon.
This is what was sent to Norm’s son and
his troop in Iraq. Thanks to everyone who
donated.
71 various books, magazines, puzzles, etc
259 packs of various nuts and nut mixes
39 packs of Gummy Bears
72 cans of Vienna Sausages
132 packs of Crystal Light drink mixes
4
packs of cookies
360 Twizzler Sticks
10 dried fruit packages
282 Ramen/Manuchan noodle mixes
2
packs of bubble gum
60 Trail Mix bars
120+ count of beef jerky packages
Christmas Care Package – it was brought
up that we should start collecting items to
send Norm’s son’s troop for Christmas. We
will collect items at the October and November
meeting and mail by the second week of
November. We will try to get a list together and
have it to you before the Oct. meeting.
Wax & Chat – Norm wanted to thank everyone
for the cards and emails about the passing of his
mother. He greatly appreciated them. And next
Thursday, Sept 15, Wax & Chat will be open.
Pete Thompson mentioned he had a limited
number of large patches that resemble the back
of the 40th Anniversary coin. They would be good
for the back of jackets, sweatshirts, etc. They are
$20. Contact Pete at 302-670-9800.
Norm brought a couple of examples of vests that
could be used with club patches, pins, etc. For
information on the vests, contact Norm.
Rick mentioned that Carlisle creates a booklet
each year with club information. To get FSCC into
the booklet, we have to have at least 20 members
sign up to take their car into the infield for a fee
of around $55 for the three days.
More
information at the next meeting.
Chatty wanted member to think about our
treasury. Most other clubs keep a percentage of
all fund raising monies instead of giving it all to
their charity, like we do. Food for thought.
5th Annual Corvettes for Chip – Sunday Nov. 6
at the Brandywine Picnic Park, West Chester, PA.
More information at the next meeting.
Motion made by Rick Berry , seconded
by Dave Zerbe, to adjourn the meeting.
Meeting Adjourned at 8:30pm
Respectfully Submitted,
