Future Dreams Award
Outstanding Design Performance of Trimo Products
The award invites architects and building designers to compete in front of
world- renowned architectural professionals and an international jury, and
present their recently completed projects that have used any of Trimo’s
portfolio of building products.
For system steel façade elements, projects should be presented through the
eyes of uniqueness, performance, individuality and design perfection. The entry
must contribute architecturally in its specific location with the building also
being constructed to budget yet providing value-for-money.
Future Dreams Award
Predicting the future can be an impossible task, as the world is changing in a
fast and exponential way. Each day we face challenges in the environment,
with technology and from the economy as well as great opportunities, but with
the potential risks to humanity and nature.
The award aims to stimulate and encourage architects to become “agents
of progressive change” and to present their visions and their reactions on a
vibrant world that is around us.

General Manager’s
Address
“The tradition of Trimo’s Architectural Awards continues, with this, its fifth running
of the competition. This year’s call for applications attracted a record number of
architects and architectural services to participate and present their work in the
established category “Outstanding Design Performance” as well as in the additional
new category “Future Dreams Award”, which is designed to award those ideas and
concepts that do not know the limits of time and space.
Architecture is one of the most innovative and fast-developing creative fields.
Here, curiosity, creative energy, and the desire to explore new ideas are vital, which
is confirmed by the projects and concepts submitted for the Trimo Architectural
Awards 2012.
I would like to thank each and all who participated in this year’s competition for
their ideas, vision, and courage. Thank you talso to the award’s committee for
being able to find the best projects and concepts in line with your directives and
reasoning, and thank you to everyone who contributed to raising the importance of
quality architecture.”

boards’ Address
“ The Future Dreams Award category, which marks a new phase in the
development of the Trimo Architectural Awards, encourages architects to think
about what defines a vision of sustainable development and challenges them to
present their bold ideas.
Through their projects creators of new ideas show how they adapt to changes
in the environment, society, and the economy by including design, intellect,
intuition, and economic solutions. ”

Comments from the jury:
Architects achieve surprising lightness of façade using a secondary wooden façade
membrane which adds a human feel to the building with its materials and an illusionary
connection with nature. Aside from the interesting building execution, modernistic
elements, and successful incorporation in the surrounding area, the logistic centre also
stands out due to its sophisticated detail of affixation of a wooden façade onto an insulation
shell which offers protection and provides its patina.
Despite the introvert and industrial character of the program, the building and its successful
application of façade parts and light openings achieves high architectural quality. The
committee discovered a successfully sculptured feel in the building which appears as a
big box in the surrounding area but, nonetheless, compliments and puts emphasis on
the landscape. It lacks the presentation of the role of the divided wooden cladding, which
transfers an interesting effect on the interior with its shading of light. This would have
provided an even higher level of admiration for the building.
The committee’s challenge to Trimo, who is the producer, is to use solutions on this building
as guidance in developing their solutions which should be aimed in the direction of wide
range of materials, recyclability, and environmental care.

Logistikcenter til Bestseller, Denmark / architects: C. F. Møller Architects
Architect’s description:
Principle section drawing
The new 48.000 m logistics Centre, located on the E45 motorway at Haderslev, supplies all
of the clothing company Bestseller’s boutiques, right across Europe.
2
galvanized steel frame
The Centre has been planned as three parallel bands surrounding a main avenue. One of
these bands contains the main entrance, office and staff facilities, together with an area with
loading ramps for trucks, while the second contains an automated sorting facility, and the
third fully-automated mini-load stores.
The idea was to create an industrial building that would go beyond the typical standardised
solutions for logistic facilities, and create a building with a strong identity that would add
an experiential quality to its surroundings. The tall mini-load stores therefore take the form
of solid, sculptural structures, clad with wooden slats and equipped with transparent sides
which allow motorists on the motorway to see the cranes at work. Throughout the building,
emphasis has been placed on allowing daylight to enter, and on creating an intimacy with
the landscape and the views, including the local farmland.
There has been a strong focus on sustainability in the planning, e.g. the use of recycled
materials in the construction process, large-scale green roofs, and the use of renewable
energy such as solar and biodiesel for heating.

The site surrounding the centre, covering approximately 500,000 m2 in all, has been
designed to form a natural area with oak woods, wetlands and meadows with grazing cows,
which will create a fertile environment for a rich flora and fauna.

Comments from the jury:
On site, the building with its structure functions as a gravitation centre. According to the
committee the program of the building surprises as it could easily be mistaken for a museum
of modern art or due to its exposure and designed logic of elements with a miniature version
of the Pompidou Centre in Paris, France.
The use of a façade with red and yellowish surfaces of a panelled façade seems unsuitable at
first glance, but the decision proves logical once you understand the meaning of modularity
and prefabrication of all component parts. The elements that deserve a special mention
are: the implementation of the suspended roof that floats above the central part of the
innovation centre, an impressive solution for the penetration of installation pipes, and
solutions for the interior staircase.
An interesting fact with this building is how the project engineers were able to achieve high
expectations regarding insulation levels required by the Swiss despite using a non-traditional
façade membrane. The buildings offers an illusionary correlation with the architectural
language of the architect Glenn Murcutt, perhaps less in the openness of the architecture as
in the quality placement in the landscape.

CPW Innovation Centre, Switzerland / architects: Concept Consult Architectes sarl
Architect’s description:
Cereal Partners Worldwide commissioned Concept Consult Architectes to design and project
manage a cutting edge Innovation Centre for their new headquarters in Switzerland.
The client brief called for a modular building with maximum flexibility, whilst raising
architectural dialogue.
Located on a generous site the building was designed and constructed with future expansion
in mind. Large steel trusses, supported by precast concrete columns, clear span across the 40
m research hall whilst supporting the technical and office levels above.
Large windows and a series of interior courtyards and skylights allow daylight to enter deep
into the office floor and building, linking it with the external landscape and seasons.
Prefabricated technical pods inserted into the exterior steel frame reference the buildings
inherent industrial nature. By liberating the interior volume of service elements the usable
area at each level is increased.
Core environmental principals were implemented, fore fronting these initiatives are reduced
energy consumption by sun shading, insulating and increasing natural light, maximising the
recycled content in materials, storm water harvesting, and river water cooling in lieu of CFC
refrigerants.
For a very tight budget this building has been delivered without impinging on quality or the
choices of finishes.

Comments from the jury:
The world famous industrial complex of the McLaren Goup, located in Woking near
London and most a high profile, media exposed project was surely to be recognised by the
committee as an impressive perfection in detail, smooth form, and efficiency. The building
for the production centre is a successful addition to the technological centre built six years
ago. The whole complex of buildings functions in a somewhat utopian manner as it is built
on an isolated location without an urban backdrop.
The typical Foster move is visible in the detail of illusionary shades, jutting roof, and steel
Qbiss façade, which softly flows onto the interior. Qbiss Fusion which was firstly used in the
bent form on this building, presents sophisticated detail at the highest level, which from
a purely aesthetical point of view, successfully complements the exterior and interior and
unnoticeably flows into the plural of elements.

McLaren Production Centre, United Kingdom / architects: Foster + Partners
Architect’s description:
The McLaren Production Centre is the second building designed by Foster + Partners at
McLaren’s rural site on the outskirts of London. The 34,500-square-metre facility is intended
for the manufacture of a range of high-performance road cars and is located to the southwest of the existing McLaren Technology Centre - the two buildings share a common
language of details and materials. The project incorporates 1,900 square metres of Trimo
cladding – Trimo Qbiss One. It was selected for its simple, minimal aesthetic as cover strips
were not required at joints.
Principle section drawing
Architecturally, the aim was to give the building a linear appearance and the length of the
Trimo panels enabled this. The Trimo walling system was used for the inner and outer skin
and the void between was used for services distribution. As well as giving future flexibility,
this supported the integration of structure, services and architecture that is central to the
project.
The fast track nature of the schedule and the high level of quality required demanded a
prefabricated system, and the team worked with Trimo to develop the most appropriate
solution for the project.

Comments from the jury:
According to the committee, the roof motive in this proposal is very well-defined and distinct.
The fifth façade, which radiates transparency, flow, transitivity, and reflection in material,
holds an entirely different role with its lower side. In this case the Trimo façade is converted
into a ceiling element for the first time and shows itself in different and atypical details.
It is unfortunate how the design does not offer something extra in the border part by the
transition into the vertical. There, the solution is less elegant and at times ill-shaped.

Bus station Osijek, Croatia / architects: Rechner d.o.o.
Architect’s description:
Urban solution of Bus station in Osijek was in many ways defined by its placement in urban
tissue. Longitude of the city situated on river Drava is reflected even in the positioning of the
Bus station building on the parcel.
Terminal of urban transport is located on the east, the most contractual side of longitudinal
parcel: tram station, five platforms for urban transport buses, taxi stand, a large square
with dominated roof surface and oblique high wall which points toward the entrance of the
building and also separates the platforms from external access.
Principle section drawing
metal sheet, thermal insulation
roof truss
Slightly wavy dominant roof surface substantially shelters the Bus terminal building on
all sides, especially over the bus platform and the access of the square, which gives the
association of a pleasant bus ride, almost like sailing on low and long waves. Her “weight”
dematerialized glass surfaces of building facades, with a distinctive horizontality of glazed
fields. Underground public garage beneath the entire building and the external platform
has a capacity for 251 vehicles. It is directly associated with the contents of the bus station
building, and pedestrian access is also possible from outside, through the access square.

Comments from the jury:
The standard typology of the kindergarten in the shape of a comb does not excel due to
its architecture but rather with the innovation of the façade. This was the first time the
integrated façade system, Qbiss Air, was used on the transverse administrative part of
the kindergarten, whereby the typical Trimo façade clothing is used on the part with the
classrooms and common rooms.

Kindergarten Mavrica, Trebnje, Slovenia / architects: Princic and partners
Architect’s description:
Much thought went into the initial idea and concepts as research has shown that for the
development of a child’s perception of space and creativity, colour and its variety are of
great importance. The architectural solution was therefore based on idea of a palette of
colours draped in a symbolic image of clothing that would surround and reflect the liveliness,
vibrancy and energy of the kindergarten. Colour variations are recognisable and social
characteristic elements of the town, and as such the different shades of the façade elements
represent the attraction and at the same time diversity, which in that environment are lively,
memorable and distinctive.
Large glass surfaces create a continuous panorama outside, forming a sensible transition
of the internal space to the external areas and vice versa. In front of each hall a garden
is planned, which when complete will become an extension of the common areas. The
concept is to create the spirit of a Mediterranean garden, which becomes a private piazzetta
connected by a green surface. One of the most notable features of the kindergarten is the
platform roof at the entrance, which can be seen from the main street. Activities of this area
become a natural and integral part of the life at that location.
Southern facade & Section
The Kindergarten uses the latest Innovative Qbiss Air façade system (classified as a Nonventilated Curtain Wall system) in this project for the first time. Lightweight, noncombustible façade elements act as a structurally self-supporting, as well as high thermal
and hydro efficient envelope.
This façade system was the ideal solution for the sustainable, contemporary project
requirements since high energy and aesthetic demands of the building envelope were
accomplished.

Comments from the jury:
As one of the committee members said upon first seeing the building, the project can be
summed up one word: “refreshing”. The architecture of a new urban intervention as a
gravitation centre in an abandoned industrial complex is part of the transformation of the
wider area. It appears as a mass of complex urbanised elements such as a public market,
parking lot, focused graphics, restaurant, and shops.
The ground floor of the building uncharacteristically does not contain a shopping program
and is free and flowing. The design in this case is not the most important part, despite that
we can see an interesting play with colours with Trimo elements. The urban connection is
very clear and urban elements perform the role of the generator.

Le Officine former Metalmetron area, Savona, Italy / architects: 5+1AA Alfonso Femia
Architect’s description:
The project starts from the necessity of placing side-by-side a certain number of medium
selling areas, almost completely lacking in connections between each other, providing a huge
part for services (mostly parking spaces) as connected as possible to every single structure.
Because of the difficult relationship of the pre-existing with the current city, the demolition
of the complex ex-Metalmetron, as it is currently structured, was chosen, maintaining the
curved building containing the canteen and the changing rooms and inserting part of the
handcraft activities and connecting it to the system hotel-car park.
The plan is, then, to unify in a unique architectonical and expressive element the car park and
the hotel, imagined as a tower. The volumes have been rarefied thanks to a treatment of the
facade that works in an expressive way per “pixel” by using Trimo Panels of different colours.
It is a choice of mimetism, but not shyness or sense of guilt: the system of the green pixels
allows the passage from a natural green to an artificial one, anticipating the transformation
of Savona from an industrial reality to a touristic city.

Comments from the jury:
The minimized industrial building has the form of a generally recognisable and iconic
image of old factories. With this new acquisition the abandoned area sustains the historic
value of the location and this new material points to a new future. The big, panoramic,
lit window partially resembles the Sainsbury Centre by the architect Norman Foster, and
which represents a revolution in the field of modular, panel construction. The exemplary
architectural application in steel façade, functions most vitally in space.

Architect’s description:
The object is situated in an area of former collective farm in Staré Město nearby Uherské
Hradiště, Czech Republic. Most buildings in the area are in a rundown condition and the
object of MERcut should have been the first impulse to its revitalization and transformation
of the intended focus of industrial premises. The building uses the maximum amount of
available land for construction. For this reason, the rectangular shape of the southeast side is
cut off into the shape of a trapezium.
Glass entrance part of the building is devoted to administration. The interior glass partition
creates a vestibule and at the same time separates the office manager from the open space
administration. The area is divided into only furniture which allows for easy future variability.
Block dressing rooms and technical facilities are located in the second elongated building
module and separates the manufacturing part of the building from the administration
section. To bridge the 22-metre width a roof truss construction was designed, which is
at the ends and in the middle supported. It consists of steel beams which are fitted with
prefabricated reinforced concrete columns ranked in the longitudinal module 6m. The façade
system is designed from the heat-insulating sandwich panels Trimo Qbiss thickness 100 mm.
There was elected the most economically suitable module 6x1m panels.
The panels are aligned with the glass facade in horizontal and vertical direction. Skylights
are oriented to the north and dazzling sunbeams do not pass through to the production
hall, which are inappropriate for precise engineering, but only diffuse daylight. The interior
is designed in curtly shades of white and grey, furniture from gray laminate is designed to
measure. Office spaces are equipped with a grey epoxy floor, production area from polished
concrete.

Comments from the jury:
Despite an extremely iconic architectural application and a modern interpretation of
the house, the committee expressed disappointment in that the building is not fully
implemented in a prefabricated steel façade, which could have easily answered all questions.
It could also present a complete solution and not merely a roofing solution. The miniature
residential architecture recognisable in Slovenian architectural production as quality,
presents an non-researched field for Trimo and definitely has potential for the future.

Houses on Jurčkova street, interior, Ljubljana, Slovenia / architects: Arhe d.o.o.
Architect’s description:
Urban regulation reduced the building plot by more than a half with a mandatory limit to the
buildable area. The plot is thereby divided into parallel programme zones. The first part, near
the city, street is intended to be used as a green area. The land in the second zone is intended
to be used for a parking lot. The remaining part of the land is intended for a series of compact
residential constructions of three single-family houses.
The basic orientation and aim of the project is represented by a typological combination of
advantages of individual construction with qualities of compact terrace house construction.
It is the plan of three “chain” rental houses which adapt to the geometry of parcel limits
with their geometric fan-like ground plan design of buildings and follow the mandatory
construction line. The houses are designed as small prismatic “crystals” which are connected
with the regular volume of ancillary rooms on the ground floor. The half-public, closed area
of the buildings is intended for the entrance part which then in the internal - courtyard
area continues into green atriums. The buildings are designed as compact volumes with
continued façade cladding which passes over into a prismatic roof. The internal organisation
is vertically divided. The vertical communication between floors is indented with vertical
atriums which - together with the open staircase bind the building from the ground floor to
the mansard.
The exterior of the buildings is designed with a free composition of façade openings which
are mostly orientated in providing quality views. The cross-aim of inclination of buildings’
roofs reduces the effect of mutual shading between buildings and reduced the effect of
shading of interring courtyards. Trimo TPO-Dom covering was used on the roof areas. The
selected covering along with corresponding details enabled innovation in designing diagonal
finishes of prismatic building volumes.

Comments from the jury:
Despite extremely demanding and strict industry requirements the architects were able to
produce an exceptional solution for the working space aesthetically as well as technically.
The interior incorporates the composition of three primary colours: blue for construction,
yellow for fences, and red for technical equipment. This combined with a subtle input of
natural light and reflection seems supreme. It is an excellent example of design which can
hardly be detected in industries with a less robust program.
The building also excels due to exceptional technical characteristics of the envelope which
almost reaches extremes. 60 times better air-tightness as normally used in conventional
buildings is a technical requirement, and enables the industry to ensure the best quality. All
this presents a small revolution regarding implementation and deserves special recognition.

The facility for manufacture of high voltage, i.e. 400 kW, transformers is composed of two
parallel masses, with the floor plan of the entire plant equalling 47.51m x 94.75 m.
In terms of its design and function, the entire architectural concept of the building is
subordinate to the uninterrupted manufacture process, which is specific particularly due
to conditions, which occur as a result of the heavy weight end product. The area of the
technological process is fitted with 6 bridge elevators, two of which are combined and enable
the lifting of cargo up to 320 tons (in the large hall).
The interior is under excess pressure due to requirements of a dust-free environment. The
entire envelope of the building is airtight; due to the thickness of the façade panel, it fulfils
the parameters of low-energy structures.
The ground floor houses manufacturing spaces, which are enclosed with insulation panels
and divided in accordance with the technological requirements of transformer manufacture.
The mezzanine contains wardrobes and technical spaces.
The new building functionally connects with the existing facilities with the union of the
existing and the new laboratory into a single space. A new connecting hallway, which joins
the buildings of the existing and new manufacture hall, is located between the existing
laboratory and the generator station.
The supporting structure is made from steel. It is constructed from rolled steel sections,
both welded and joined with screws. In its cross section, the structure is designed as a frame

Description by architects:
Horizontal stretching of the facility follows the dominant character of the ground, as well as
the spatial requirements of technological processes.
Having the technological process and functionality in view, the constitutive architectural
elements and the elements of equipment equally take part in forming the facility character.
Such treatment makes the facility grow into a kind of spatial multitude.
The envelope, which integrates the entity, makes a contrast with the elements, which reflect
the structure of interior space. The level of envelope is the point of overlapping of the spatial
context represented by horizontality, form, colouring and technology, opening up, materials
and technological elements.
The area and area contour are the reduced tool of the minimal articulation of the facility
corpus. Binary opposites of the solid and void (vague) assign the final characteristics to
the facility. The possibility of the large form remaining unique without decomposition of
morphological continuity into a sequence of individual parts. The membrane takes over the
general characteristics of the monoform as a form of urban condition of the facility and
technological envelope.
General procedure of form articulation is the study of the condition of the form as some
kind of facility binary coding - the condition which could be described, as much as the
architectural frames permit, as the condition of the form sign of the facility boundary.

So, starting from this data, a building that combined the two aspects of its professional task,
was needed: the administrative part of the management and the industrial production.
Though these areas are formally read through different volumes (different plant, height and
occupancy), from an architectural point of view a composition unit was searched in order to
integrate these two lines of work.
On this perspective, it was decided to choose a standard material for both the large building
and the offices. Elegance, harmony and durability were the premises to choose the finish of
the frontage. Trimoterm panel was chosen to comply with these norms. A simple but elegant
building was presented.

Comments from the jury:
The jury was unanimous when considering this project as the solution does not only present
current modular construction based on norm net, but also includes a social note. The project
is not self-oriented and idea-wise it gives much more to the location than it takes.
On a location which does not currently display urban quality, a utopian but yet optimistic
project can provide a very large contribution. A corporative, open, bridge-like structure
enables gradual revival, colonisation of modular homes, studios, workshops, companies, and
brings together people with interesting ideas, different statuses, and goals.
This very intelligent project does not need a large investment as the basic, open cells can
gradually be complemented by users depending on their needs. A proposal including multilevels is a solution for the future which everybody perceives as unmanageable and complex,
but perhaps this is not the case. It seems the future is simpler and beautiful.

Spatial response to the perceived problem is the activation (cultural-business) incubator in

open opportunities for citizens starting their own business, introduce a new practical

step towards happiness is to know what we want in life, and the other is to move in that
direction. Along the way there are lots of obstacles, and a direction toward the goal is what

Architect’s description:
The Budapest Vasas Sports club, one of the oldest and most successful sports associations
in Hungary, was founded in 1911 and has earned 44 Olympics gold medals and 40 Word
Championship titles.
They excel in fencing, athletics, soccer and basketball. Located in the green belt of Budapest,
we are now planning the refurbishment of the 40-year old sports hall, the most important
element of which is the replacement of the old metal casing of the façade with the TRIMO
casing system.
The greatest challenge of the plan: How to transplant the ArtMe innovation into the
perforated complementary casing. The novelty of the planned façade is the plasticity of the
manner in which the sports figures are represented. The basic system: the embossed ArtMe
TRIMO laminated panel. Its outer appearance incorporates one single simulated gold metal
surface (with varying hues of gold), a reference to the previous sports successes of the club.
Outstanding athletes of the association, champions of the past and present, will grace the
façade of the building. Additional elements: perforated metal sheets before the windows,
complementing the ArtMe metal surface; the harmonious integration of various systems;
artistic forms and shadows play across the surface. Metal comes to life.
The refurbishment was granted permissionin April, and at present tenders are under
preparation in our office, and work will begin in the summer of 2012.

The intention of the Domžale municipality is to occupy the building with the Museum of
Domžale city and the Museum of industrial evolution and design.
In the conceptual design for the revitalization of the area I proposed that the old secessionist
factory building and associated administration building, both being of great cultural
meaning, stay preserved and are renovated. The redesign suggests placement of a new
longitudinal building as an annex of the old administration building. The new building faces
the central museum platform on the south and seamlessly connects with the inner park
on the north by two passages. Passages make the distinction between old and new and
furthermore, they visually shorten the physically long volume.

Special structure of pattern diffuses the light inside the building. The character of the
envelope is dual and time dependent. In the daytime the building is perceived as a monolith
cube, but in night it is transformed in a light volume with strips of light penetrating the
façade.
Continuously designed envelope is building a contrast with historically structured existing
buildings. Its humble presence and homogeneous shaping highlights the importance of the
old secessionist factory.
The façade concept has another important role which in the buildings construction scheme.
The pattern is shaped with diagonals, which are then vertically fastened together. As such,

Comments from the jury:
For the jury the “Wave house” stands for a modern interpretation of a residential unit where
one can always sense the influence of nature. It contains primary spaces intended for living,
a kitchen, a bedroom, a work space, and a warehouse which are connected with each other
through a complex system of ramps and multifunctional staircases. All of this presents a
special innovation in the way of living.

The relation to the environment is expressed on several levels, including the implementation
of the amorphous green roof. The structure of the building is shocking and absurd at times
without any support or logics in statics. The jury assessed the proposal as an excellent

Wave house, Italy / architects: Donner Sorcinelli Architecture
Architect’s description:
This project springs from the valorisation of these natural and cultural elements
that are at the heart of this transformation process of modern society. Our aim is
to obtain a balanced blend of all these factors within a comprehensive vision of the
sustainability of contemporary living. The “wave house” concept originates from
the need to live in a varying (or variable) house that - just as a wave - relentlessly
changes its form and point break.
The core idea consists in the superimposition of two parallel waves, a living-wave
and a green-wave. In other words, a “wave” that can hold within itself all the
elements that typify relationships and socialization in the life of a modern family,
and another “wave” that can integrate the green with the house and thus recreate
that ancient tie typical of the Korean housing tradition. In doing so, there is a will
to harmonise spaces while maintaining a strict hierarchy among the various zones
through different levels.
In this way a continuum comes into being which spatially embraces the dining
room, the kitchen, the living room and the child’s room. But all these elements
are conceived as being in ceaseless movement, in transformation. Actually the
configuration of the dining room can change to become “an-bang” by simply
lowering the table. Instead the living room balances the different level between
the living area and the sleeping area, being provided with an especially designed
adjustable sofa, and becomes an area dedicated to video projections, conversation,
and play if used in direct connection with the child’s room. In fact the child can use
these two spaces as a single play area by benefiting from the wave that “enters” his/
her room and opens it up towards the living room.
Trimo Architectural Awards
In this arrangement the kitchen represents the central point on the wave and
has a barycentric function: from here the mother can directly look after her child
whilst playing, watch the television in the living room and attend the table;
moreover she can also see the entrance of the flat and to the private garden. In
this way the traditional centrality of the Korean kitchen is brought back to new
life under a modern view. Interactivity between spaces has been achieved also
through the harmonisation with natural elements: the house is ventilated by
exploiting the ‘Venturi effect’ (the acceleration of wind in a duct), as a result
of the funnel-shaped internal partitions at different levels. Additionally, the
compositional effect of the building itself, born from the union of more housing
units, characterised by the hollow spaces in its façades, permits both wind and
sun - essential elements for the quality of sustainable living - to filter inside the
courtyard.
The longitudinal façades have been designed as a screen in stretched mesh steel
grating panels that provides with privacy, at the same time offering a view on
the city and nature. Moreover thanks to this system climbing plants outside the
building can find a ‘grasp’ on the façades.
The building technique chosen provides for a steel bearing structure (pillars and
beams), with hollow “box” floors (typical of shipbuilding) in which the systems
can be fixed with a considerable reduction in the assembly time needed. The
external panelling towards the gallery is in insulated concrete sandwich panels,
internally hollow, covered with stretched mesh steel grating panels, while the
transversal façades are completely in glass.
