Pad Selection Tips
Temperature range and overall friction value are the primary considerations for pad selection. The pads must be capable of
maintaining the proper amount of friction for stopping power within the temperatures that will be realized on the track during
the event. Then, overall wear rate must be considered. For most asphalt and road race applications, compounds in the high
temperature ranges over 1000°F range are usually necessary. Dirt track, drag race, and street performance applications usually
operate at temperatures between 500° and 1000°F. Keep in mind that these are general ranges, and not absolute values. Many
factors and unforeseen influences can affect brake temperatures. The best indicator for pad selection will always be on track
performance. If pad fade (friction loss) due to overheating occurs, then improved cooling, a heavier rotor, or a higher temperature
range pad may all become necessary.

81 compound gives the budget racers a new cold bite race pad specifically designed to be cost effective. Replacing the perennial favorite 80 compound,
81 offers smooth and stable high temperature torque with excellent cold bite for the dirt and asphalt racers that demand race ready friction without the cost
of higher performance compounds. 81 compound also offers quicker release for unrivaled modulation with low wear and excellent disc conditioning
properties highly recommended for dirt track applications such as IMCA modified, dirt late models, street stocks as well as low grip asphalt.
Compound
This compound has been a favorite of sport endurance racing though it’s initial development was through CART Champ Cars. Has won races in CART,
ALMS, Grand Am, and ASA. It is also a preferred pad for touring and rally cars. Higher bite than the 90 compound with sightly higher torque. Great
modulation, very flat torque curve with enhanced release characteristics. Very easy on the discs, with very similar characteristics as the 90 compound but
even less wear. Highly recommended as a general-purpose pad for all venues. The 97 is a popular compliment for the rear to the 01 pad.
Compound
01 Compound has quickly become the pad of choice and has set the standard. With its high initial bite flat torque with rise in temperature is provides
excellent pedal modulation. Better pad wear than 83 and a faster smoother release. 01 polishes the rotor without pad material build up and a low pad wear
rate. 01 has had great success with Sprint Cup victories at Martinsville and Richmond, also successes in Nationwide Series and ASA. We recommend 97 in
the rear or for a little more rear brake use a pair of 01 pads.
Compound
03 Compound has shown to have higher bite and higher average torque than 01 Compound with a slight rise of torque with temperature to handle severe
conditions. The 03 pad has very good disc conditioning properties. Use 01 pads in rear when running these in the front. Recommended for high and
downforce applications. NASCAR short track, Road Coarse, high grip Open Wheel.
Compound
05 Compound has the highest initial bite and highest average torque second only to the 07 compound. There is virtually no torque rise with temperature.
The 05 demands the most from the vehicle setup and is designed to handle the most severe applications. Very low abraded disc wear with a fine micronic
polished disc finish. Recommended for high grip, high downforce, and severe duty applications.
Compound
07 Compound is PFC’s newest high bite and torque compound. The 07 pad has the highest initial bite and highest average torque of any compound on the
market. There is some rise in coefficient of friction with rise with temperature. It is no surprise this pad has gained immediate popularity in NASCAR, Sports
Car and Open wheel racing. The 07 has excellent release and modulation characteristics and very low abraded disc wear leaving a fine micronic polished disc
finish. Despite its aggressive performance the 07 will have slightly better wear than the 05 compound. Recommended for severe duty applications
