Assembly Instructions 1. 2. frame as shown in Figure 1. Panel must be located for ease of assembly in later operations. For assembly, select a level area with overhead hoist capable of lifting 15 feet or an area in which a fork or snorkel lift will have easy access. NOTE: Refer to drawings in back of this manual during assembly process. NOTE: All panels have loops welded on them for use in lifting panels into place during the assembly process. Block main frame level approximately 2 feet off ground. (Two feet measured to bottom side of main frame.) 7. Sit lower front and rear end panels into floor panel. Install bolts, flat washers, and nuts, but DO NOT TIGHTEN AT THIS TIME. NOTE: The high pointed end of front and rear lower panel must be on left side of unit. See basket parts schematic for view of how lower end panels assemble. CAUTION: When blocking main frame, set blocks securely and at enough points to avoid danger of frame falling during assembly. 3. Locate walking beam axle pivot pins and install walking axles onto frame. Lift axles up into mounting sockets on outside edge of frame and install short pivot pin. CAUTION: Place 10 inch "C" clamps on right side as shown in Figure 1 to hold basket onto frame during assembly. 8. NOTE: Always install short pivot pin with welded head on inside of frame and rotate pin so that extended length of pin head fits between the two gussets on frame. NOTE: When installing the two lower panels, always locate them so that the two inch leg angle side of panels are bolted to the formed leg on floor panel and the ends of panel are aligned with ends of floor panel. Inspect long center pivot pin and note drill countersink centered between end holes. This countersink is provided so that the set screw in center pivot mounting can be screwed into it, thus giving a positive lock against rotation of the pin. Insert the center pivot pin, lock the set screw into shaft, set jam nut, and install washers and cotter pins through shaft ends. 4. Mount tire and wheel assemblies onto hubs. 5. Blocking can now be removed from frame and tires set on ground. Place jack on front of unit and adjust length to level frame. 6. Place floor panel onto main frame with the long formed leg of bottom panel located on right side on main frame. Right side is determined by standing at rear of machine and looking forward indirection of travel. Locate bottom panel on main Locate the lower side panel (dump out) and install on the left side of basket. Install the door panel (dump in) on the right side of basket. Figure 1 5 Assembly Instructions 9. 10. 11. At this time, securely tighten bolts attaching lower end panels to floor panel. Then tighten bolts attaching two inch angle leg of lower side panels to floor panel. Now tighten bolts attaching lower side panels to front and rear end panels. C. Tighten bolts attaching middle left and top left panels to upper front and rear end panels. Locate middle panel (dump out) and install on left side of basket. Insert all bolts which align with mating panels and tighten. E. Tighten bolts attaching top right panel to door panel on right side. Place front and rear upper panels onto basket lower end panels between lower panel on right side and middle panel on the left side. Move panel to the left on basket until it is against middle panel. D. Tighten 5/8" bolts attaching top left pivot panel to upper end panels. F. Tighten bolts attaching top right panel to upper front and rear end panels. G. Tighten bolts attaching gussets across top right corners. 16. Locate extension panels and attach the front and rear extensions to the top end panels. DO NOT TIGHTEN BOLTS AT THIS TIME. Attach the dump in side extension and end extensions to the dump in side top panel and to the front and rear extensions. Install the extension gussets at the top right side of the extensions. Tighten all bolts at this time. 17. Before installing A-frames, screw grease line into basket pivot tube at the top of Aframes. Route the grease line down the inside of the A-frames attaching to the three bolts provided. Use the 5/16" hose clamps to secure the grease lines. Attach the 1/8" pipe couplers and grease zerks to the end of the lines. NOTE: When installing upper end panels, the cylinder anchor plate must be on the outside of the basket frame and to the left side of basket. Install all bolts in the panel, but DO NOT TIGHTEN AT THIS TIME. 12. Locate top panel (dump out) which has main basket pivot pipe welded into frame, install on left (dump out) side of basket, and insert all bolts loosely. Be sure to install bolts on ends of basket which attach the pivot pipe support plate to the top front and rear panels. 13. The last panel, top panel (dump in), should be installed on right side of basket. Install all bolts loosely. 14. Install gussets across the top right side corners. Install bolts loosely. 15. At this time, all remaining bolts on basket should be tightened in the following sequence: 6 Raise A-frame (Figure 2) and slide pivot tube of A-frame over the basket pivot pipe. Allow lower end of A-frame to rotate downward onto main frame inside of mounting plates welded on main frame. Insert bolts attaching A-frame to main frame. A. Tighten bolts attaching middle left panel to top left panel. NOTE: 1. It may be necessary to remove "C" clamps from basket placed in STEP #7 to install mounting bolts. B. Tighten bolts attaching top front and rear panels to lower front and rear panels. 2. Install 1/2" x 3" bolts and lock nut in pipe panel as shown in Figure 3. Assembly Instructions Figure 2 18. Install basket A-frame brace pipe by inserting 3/4" bolt with flat washer through slotted hole in A-frame mounting angle and mounting plate welded on main frame. Install flattened end of pipe over bolts and install lock nut loosely. The opposite end of pipe is provided with screw adjustment so that A-frame may be correctly positioned. The A-frame pivot tube inside edge should be positioned against the basket pivot tube mounting as shown in Figure 3. Using punch to pry A-frame into place, insert bolt into opposite hole and tighten securely. Bolt can then be inserted into hole that the punch was in, and tightened securely. Tighten bolts on bottom end of cross braces. NOTE: Be sure and tighten jam nut on cross brace adjusting pipe. The cross brace length must be adjusted so that the A-frames are correctly positioned. To do this, first check length of cross braces and adjust both braces to same length. Check fit braces to A-frame. If Aframe pivot tube is not against basket, insert drift punch into one hole and pry A-frame into place. If cross brace needs adjustment in length, do so by screwing threaded stud into or out of nut on end of pipe. NOTE: Always adjust cross braces to the same length. Figure 3 7 Assembly Instructions 19. Using six inch long bolts, install hitch onto frame as shown in Figures 4a, 4b, & 4c. Several mounting holes are provided in frame so that frame may be leveled when installed on different tractor drawbar heights. Notice that the clevis hitch may be installed in two ways giving additional drawbar heights. 20. Unit is now ready for installation of hydraulic cylinders and hoses. Check hydraulic schematic found in back of manual for details of where the different component parts connect. Install hydraulic cylinders in place connecting the rod end to basket and base end to A-frame. Figure 4a CAUTION: Cylinders must be installed so that fitting ports are facing toward right side of machine. If placed in opposite direction fittings will be broken off when basket is raised. Install 90° elbow fittings into cylinder ports and tighten until hose connecting swivel is pointing downward. NOTE: It is recommended that teflon tape be applied to fitting end which installs into the cylinder ports. Doing so will avoid leaks but caution should be used to avoid overtightening fitting thus causing cylinder to crack. Refer again to hydraulic schematic in back Figure 4b of manual and install and tighten hoses as shown. Locate one hose on each side of bolts welded on top of frame and on inside of A-frame tube and install formed clamp over bolt. Install nut and lock washer and tighten only enough to hold hose in place. 21. Unit should now be completely assembled and ready for check out, purging of hydraulic cylinders with oil and connection to tractor. IMPORTANT: Do not attempt to operate this unit until hydraulic system has been completely purged of air as outlined in the operation section of manual. Figure 4c 8 Operation Familiarize yourself with the various features of the Boll Buggy before operating. Read this section of your manual caref ully. 6. After cycling cylinders and purging lines and cylinders of any air locks, reconnect cylinders. Be certain all cylinder pins are securely held in place and will not work out under load. Attaching to Tractor 7. You are now ready to dry run the unit. Complete the lubrication of the unit as described on page 10. Read the operating section of this manual on pages 9 and 10 before dry running of unit. 1. Adjust tongue ball hitch (standard) or clevis hitch (optional) to the appropriate holes on the tongue to level main frame when attached to tractor drawbar. 2. Attach machine to tractor (for the standard ball hitch) using a 2 5/16" ball (minimum capacity 12,500#) with enough shank and thread length to secure it with a full depth nut and lock washer. Make sure the ball shank threads go all the way through the nut. Hydraulic System Purging Procedure CAUTION: While cycling the basket for the first time it is best to have an observer on the ground at a safe distance to give instructions to the operator. The observer will be looking for any hydraulic hose pinch points, loose connections, any binding of basket or anything else that would prohibit the safe and successful operation of the unit. Be sure to observe the grease line at the main pivot point in the upper corner for sufficient clearance. Hydraulic cylinders and hoses must be run without load to remove all air from system. 1. Remove basket cylinder rod pins attaching upper end of cylinder to basket and block or tie in place so when rod is extended it will not hit or interfere with any portion of the basket. 2. Install the required male quick coupler end onto hoses going to tractor and then attach hoses to a pair of quick coupler hydraulic fluid outlets on the tractor. Check the tractor hydraulic fluid and add fluid if system is not completely full. 3. Start tractor engine and activate valve lever to extend hydraulic cylinders approximately onethird of stroke or 16 inches. Stop at this point and check hydraulic fluid level in tractor. Add required amount to bring level to full. Again extend hydraulic cylinder an additional 16 inches of stroke or total of approximately 32 inches. Repeat procedure above in checking fluid level in tractor. Extend cylinders to maximum extended position and repeat procedure used to check fluid level. 4. With the tractor fluid at a safe operational level, fully retract and extend the cylinders several times to insure removal of all air from system. Operating Information Before operating this unit, refer to the Lubrication section in this manual on page 10 and make sure machine is properly lubricated. CAUTION: When turning or crossing rough terrain, slow tractor speed down. CAUTION: Be sure everyone is clear of the machine before starting engine or operation. To dump the Boll Buggy, simply drive along side of trailer or module and stop at the required position. Set tractor engine RPM at approximately 1/2 to 3/4 maximum engine RPM. Actuate tractor valve lever to raise basket. 5. Retract cylinders to fully closed position and reconnect cylinder rod to basket using cylinder pin. 9 Operation CAUTION: Use the following cautions when dumping the Boll Buggy basket: 1. Use caution when operating around power lines. 6. Always dismount from the side of the tractor, never at the rear. 2. Watch for overhead obstructions which might interfere with the basket. 7. Do not allow people to ride on this machine. 3. Always select level area for dumping. If the area is uneven, position units so when the Boll Buggy is dumping, the dump-in side of the unit is lower than the dumping side. This will minimize the possibility of unit overturning during dump cycle. 4. Do not move unit with basket partially up or basket lift cylinders partially extended. Damage could result to cylinders and/or basket frame. 5. When dumping, always note direction strong winds are blowing from. Position units so Boll Buggy basket is dumping into wind current, or that wind current is blowing into either the front or rear of the Boll Buggy. 8. Never carry anyone on the tractor. 9. Be sure everyone is clear of the machine before starting engine or operation. 10. Use SMV emblem when operating on highways except when prohibited by law. 11. When transporting unit on road or highways, always watch for width and overhead obstructions. 12. Never lubricate or make adjustments while engine is running or basket is in raised position. 13. Know your machine, study this manual, ask your dealer if you have any questions on the operation on this machine. Lubrication and Maintenance IMPORTANT: Before operating your Boll Buggy, make sure it is properly lubricated and thoroughly inspected. Only a minimum of time and effort is required to regularly lubricate and maintain this machine to insure long life and trouble-free operation. Lubrication Maintenance Keep all lubricants and lubrication points free from dirt and grit. Inspect your machine regularly to prevent accidents and breakdowns. Use a general purpose lithium base grease to lubricate the pressure grease fittings. Check hitch pin periodically for wear and replace if worn excessively. The following lubrication schedule is recommended: Check hitch mounting bolts occasionally to make sure they are tight. Walking Beams(4-Fittings) . . . . . . . Daily Basket Pivots (2-Fittings) . . . . . . Weekly Wheel Bearings . . . . . . . . Repack Yearly Check wheel spindle bearing preload after twenty(20) hours operation. 10 Storage The Boll Buggy should be stored in an enclosed building to prevent hoses, cylinders, and metal surfaces from deteriorating due to weather exposure. Recommended storage procedure follows: 1. Elevate frame so tires will clear ground. NOTE: When preparing to use machine after storage, check for any oil leaking. If there is any indication of oil leaking from fittings, hoses, or cylinders the hydraulic system should be purged prior to raising the basket. (Follow instructions in manual for hydraulic system purging -page 9.) NOTE: Support frame securely so there is no danger of it falling. 2. Remove clamps from hydraulic hoses going to the tractor and elevate them above the front hydraulic cylinder to prevent oil from seeping out of quick couplers while not in use.
