The following types of articles are ones that your club would write and email to the PR committee:
* Season in Review: for any clubs whose competitive seasons have been completed
* Results: monthly results from games/meets/competitions
* Instructional Club Feature: description of those clubs who do not compete
* Club Sport Highlight: interesting story/exciting news about a club
* Calendar: includes fundraisers and home/nearby events for the upcoming month
* Other: fundraisers, anything that you'd like people to know about and attend
Please keep these articles under 200 words to fit the allotted space.
In addition, we would like to have 1-2 "Athlete in the Spotlight" articles. If you have an athlete
who deserves to be highlighted and acknowledged, please send the PR committee an email
with the athlete's email address. We will then ask them to answer a series of questions and
provide an in-action photo for the upcoming newsletter.
With all of this said, the PR committee is asking you and your clubs to contribute
to the upcoming April issue. Please email your completed articles by Thursday, April 23 to
[email protected]. If you have an athlete you would like to nominate, please email the
name of this person as soon as possible so we can complete the interview before the deadline.
Club Sports Council Update
The Club Sports Council’s meeting on March 11 was another short but sweet one. The Public Relations
committee reported on problems with the t-shirt logo and announced that there will be a contest for
the new club sports logo to be seen on new club sports t-shirts. If you are interested in submitting a
logo for the contest, contact Paige at [email protected]. Logo entries are due by April 7. Space Allocation reported on their results of a survey sent to club sports leaders about current practice times and
space. If you have any suggestions or questions about space allocation, contact Debbie at
[email protected]. We also ratified the Council’s constitution.
The next Club Sports Council will decide next year’s officers! If you are interested in running for any
position on club sports council or would like information on what any position would entail, contact
Nick at [email protected].
Finally, there is still time to be a part of the Club Sports Council. Our next meeting is April 8 th at 6:30
pm in the IM Sports Building Conference room.

Athlete in the Spotlight: Kelsey DeLave, Women’s Ultimate Frisbee
Hometown: Troy, MI
Year/Major: Biomedical
Engineering, switching to
Movement Science
Years playing Frisbee: 1/2 a
year
Position on field: Cutter,
DSMHO (Distant-SidelineMarker-HelperOuter) extraordinaire.
Why did you decide to join
Ultimate?: “In high school I
was always a really competitive
athlete, especially when it came
to soccer. IM and club soccer
wasn’t for me... I was ready for
something new. I got a flyer at
Festifall for Flywheel that said,
"Miss your high school
sport?" and was just like
ummm... yes!!! I had no idea
what ultimate even was. But I
went, tried it anyways, and fell
in love instantly.”
How has your experience
been so far?: “It's been awesome! I think being submersed
into a high level of ultimate has
made me such a better player
in a short period of time. We
are generally positive team, and
optimism is contagious. I love
the ultimate community: it's so
different from any other sport
that I've been a part of and
while flywheel is a really competitive team, we always have
fun together.”
Favorite part: “The fact that
we do everything as a team.
Also, being a rookie/freshman,
it's like having a bunch of big
sisters around, the girls are just
awesome. I love traveling all
over the country for tournaments, getting away from Ann
Arbor and the cold to go dominate.”
Future goals: “For Flywheel,
winning Nationals! (knock on
wood)”

Flywheel coach
Season in Review: Men’s Ice Hockey
The Men’s Club Hockey Team
finished their 2008-09 season
strong after a detrimental midseason lull.
Unfortunately falling short of a
regional tournament berth, the
team ended the final ranking
period winning five of their last
six games, four of them against
well-ranked opponents Miami
of Ohio and Lindenwood. The
Greater Midwest Hockey
League playoffs ended in a
heartbreaking, last-minute
overtime loss to the same Miami of Ohio Redhawks. Although unsatisfied with the end
result, the team was happy with
their play throughout the final
stretch of the season.
With a strong group of young
players returning next year, and
a year of experience under new
coach Kory Kucharski’s belt,
the team looks to make a
dramatic change for next season.

Cyclists Race Against Weather on North Campus
The Michigan Cycling Team
hosted its third annual collegiate race on North Campus
on Sunday, March 29. The
weather outlook was grim, but
the rain and snow held out
until the afternoon time trial
races, so most racers were
able to enjoy their race crash
free.
In the circuit race, Eric Eckstein
took the Men’s C win and
Stephen Hickner took second.
Marian College’s Zach McBride
took the Men’s A race with a
solo breakaway for the premier
event. Chris Aten was Michigan’s top finisher in the A field
with 14th, as Brendan Benson
flatted halfway through the race
and other racers had to drop
our due to sickness.
Conditions were epic for the
individual time trial as rain
started coming down hard
midway through. Again, our
Men’s C came away with the
win, but this time it went to
Stephen Hickner. Marian
claimed first prize in Men’s A
again, as Junior National Time
Trial Champion David Williams
was 30 seconds faster than
second place and 90 seconds
faster than third.
Overall, the weekend went
very well for Michigan Cycling
and many people came out and
cheered on Michigan Cycling.
