We have produced this guide to show the growing range that Covers are able to offer. Timber cladding provides an attractive, versatile and durable external finish. Timbers environmental credentials are leading to increased usage on all building types. Appearance Not only does it look good, enhancing the external appearance of any building, it is more interesting and pleasing to the eye. The versatility of timber means it can be produced to almost any profile Durability Hardwoods and some softwoods such as Western Red Cedar, Larch and Douglas Fir are naturally resistant to decay. Less durable species such as European Redwood can be preservative treated to prolong life in service. Performance Along with durability and a long service life, Timber Claddings natural properties offer improved acoustic and thermal conductivity performance. Thermowood Thermowood® is produced by heat treating grown European Redwood (Red Pine) to temperatures in excess of 200 degrees Centigrade. During heat treatment, chemical and structural changes occur within the timber which alter and improve some of its basic characteristics. The resulting product is an altogether more durable and stable timber, an ideal material for use in exposed areas such as external wall claddings. The benefits of Thermowood® Durability Performance The improved durability of Thermowood® makes it an excellent material to use in the production of timber claddings and rain screens. The heat treatment process enables the use of Scandinavian Redwood in areas requiring a service life of up to 30 years without the need for a chemical preservative. Stability Thermowood® is more stable than untreated softwood. The changes that occur within the timber during heat treatment make it less able to absorb or lose moisture. This restriction of moisture movement limits and potential for swelling, shrinking or distortion of Thermowood® cladding boards. Maintenance Heat treatment removes resin from redwood timber. As a result there is no resin leakage or “bleed” through the surface coatings. The combined effect of this together with the improved stability can lead to a lower maintenance requirement. Along with its workability, versatility and resistance to warping this makes it an ideal timber for outdoor applications without the need for preservative treatments. Western Red Cedar’s rich warm colour and texture gives any building, inside or out, a touch of individually that blends naturally with the environment. With ageing and weathering Cedar gradually changes colour to an attractive silver-grey. Alternatively it can be treated or stained to individual taste. The rich warm colour and texture of Cedar gives any building, inside or out, a touch of individuality that blends effortlessly with the environment. Lightweight and ideal for fast track building schemes, it is also more resistant to warping, twisting and shrinking than any other softwood. Along with our stock ex 25 x 150mm Cedar Shiplap and ex 19 x 100mm Cedar T&G V-Jointed Matchboarding we can provide a wide variety of sizes and patterns. Another popular stock item is Cedar Shingles. They are extremely lightweight and durable making them an ideal roofing and cladding material. Siberian Larch (Larix Siberia) A slow grown timber with a golden yellow colour and strong grain pattern. Unlike British Larch, the knots in Siberian Larch are light grey in colour and are less likely to fall out after Drying and Machining. Siberian Larch is very resinous and extremely hard, making it one of the toughest and most durable softwoods in the world. Therefore there is no need for further treatment. Ideal for use as a cladding where impact damage may occur. e.g. Schools, Public Buildings and Shopping areas. Softwood & Hardwood European Redwood A range of matchings and shiplaps are available ex stock that can be preservative treated. Alternatively we can offer sawn or machined to almost any pattern, as well as priming and black base coating. Western Red Cedar, European/Siberian Larch, Douglas Fir and other softwoods are also available sawn or machined to almost any pattern. Black Barn Feather Edge Cladding Ex 32 x 175mm sawn featheredge boarding. Preservative treated then black base coated, available from stock. Ideal for barn conversions or to give a traditional appearance on new developments. Hardwood Hardwoods such as Oak and Chesnut are more commonly used as cladding and along with many other hardwoods can be sawn or machined to almost any pattern. Treated Featheredge Boarding Ex 25 x 150mm, 32 x 200mm treated featheredge is available from stock. Alternatively featheredge can be produced sawn to different sizes and also from other species. Cedar Shingles and Shakes Bringing aesthetic charm to almost any building, their natural insulation properties and light weight makes them the perfect choice for sustainable industrial, commercial or housing projects. Cedar shingles weigh one tenth of traditional roofing materials, resulting in less structural stress. Furthermore, their thermal conductivity is the lowest of any roofing material available - making for an exceptionally warm roof. Shingles are also one of the most flexible of all cladding and roofing materials and can be successfully installed on curved areas and other geometric shapes. Untreated, preservative treated or fire retardant Cedar shingles and shakes will withstand the harshest weather conditions with preservative treated shingles having a life expectancy in excess of 40 years when installed correctly. Standard Profiles Hand samples of all Cedar profiles are available upon request from our Chichester office. 23 x 150mm 25 x 150mm 25 x 150mm 25 x 150mm 25 x 150mm 25 x 150mm 25 x 150mm 25 x 150mm Moulding images are not to scale. Fibre Cement Cladding Traditional timber weatherboarding is a unique and aesthetically pleasing form of cladding, whether it is used on suburban homes or commercial buildings. However, the effect is diminished by the necessity for on-going maintenance and the very real threat of pest and insect infestation. Marley Eternits’ Cedral Weatherboard is a man-made alternative designed to replicate the visual appeal of the timber original. The unique formulation of the board frees it from attack by vermin and eliminates the risk of rot. The result is a long life timber - like product which is significantly aesthetically superior to PVCu substitutes. Cedral Weatherboard can be used in a number of new build and refurbishment applications, in both domestic and commercial environments-especially when there is a requirement for low maintenance performance and lasting cladding aesthetics. Natural White Beige Grey Brown Dark Brown Grey Grey Green Cream White Sand Yellow Ochre Plastic Cladding Kestrel offers two practical and attractive cladding systems suitable for internal and external use. Both systems, Shiplap and Open V joint, offer a real alternative to timber, at lower installed cost. Kestrel’s cladding systems can be fixed vertically, horizontally or diagonally and are available in three styles: Shiplap with 150mm coverage, V-joint with 100mm coverage and our NEW Kavex 150mm and 300mm textured cladding range. The Shiplap and V-Joint system is available in all white and woodgrain colours whilst the textured cladding is available in White, Sand and Cream. At Covers we provide a range of treatments from suppliers such as Osmose and Tanalith, using different cycles of treatments for different risk factors. Tanalised E TANALISED® E pressure treated timber can have a service life of 15 - 60 years depending on its end use. The colour of TANALISED® E pressure treated timber slowly weathers from an initial green hue to a warm, honey brown and in the longer term to a natural silver grey. If required the colour can be refreshed with a brush-on colour product such as RESTOL® (Tanalith® Green). Any timber surface exposed by cross cutting, drilling, notching or boring must be brushed with ENSELE® end-grain preservative to maintain the integrity of the treatment. As TANALISED® E pressure treated timber is a high performance product, it is appropriate to use metal fixings and fastenings that give a comparable service life. Under normal conditions the use of hot dipped galvanised nails, screws and fixings is recommended. Protim Clearchoice - Is a clear low pressure treatment Protim Clearchoice (Protim) is more suitable to joinery grade claddings which will be either used indoors or outdoors and can be left clear or with a stained finish. Fire Protection We are able to offer a fire retardant treated timber service for Interior and weather protected exterior situations. DRICON treated timber and sheet materials have been impregnated with DRICON fire retardant, a water-based formulation which is an approved Type HR humidity resistant formulation. • • • • • Allows you to meet fire regulations with a commercially proven global product backed by extensive independent test data.
