RESEARCH CENTRE AT UNIVERSITÉ LAVAL Finite Element Interdisciplinary Research Group (GIREF) GIREF’s multidisciplinary teams use the power of mathematics for applications in a wide range of fields. MISSION GIREF’s mission is to develop numerical methodologies for solving systems of partial differential equations, primarily using the finite element method. These methods are mainly applied to solve industrial problems. GIREF director: André Fortin, Faculty of Science and Engineering CENTRE DESCRIPTION GIREF brings together researchers and research groups from various universities to promote research, development, specialized training, and interaction with industry in the field of numerical modeling and simulation. research scientists research professionals students STATISTICS AT 1 JUNE 2013 GIREF members collaborate regularly with various partners in fields that use numerical methods (finite elements, finite volumes, finite differences) to conduct numerical simulations of fundamental and applied problems. ADVANTAGES Université Laval in the heart of Québec City is one of Canada’s top research universities, with nearly 230 graduate programs. Students at GIREF collaborate on research in fields at the intersection of applied mathematics, software engineering, and fundamental science and engineering. All have the opportunity to work with researchers from diverse backgrounds within multidisciplinary teams. They draw on their core math knowledge to solve concrete problems in fundamental science (medicine, biology, pharmacy) and engineering. A global leader in numerous cutting-edge disciplines, Université Laval educates tomorrow’s leaders and prepares them to face current and future challenges in every field of knowledge.
