LANAKILA KUPUNA NEWS 1640 Lanakila Ave., Honolulu, HI 96817 Telephone: (808) 847-1322 May 2015 A program of Catholic Charities Hawai’i funded in part by the State Executive Office on Aging (EOA) via contract with EOA and the C&C of Honolulu, Elderly Affairs Division Message from Dianne Lim - Tam - Program Coordinator: Last month was a busy one for us here at the Lanakila Multi-Purpose Senior Center, but this month seems to be filled with even more fun and exciting activities! Our Volunteer Appreciation Day (VAD) celebration was so much fun! I would like to thank Rodney Villanueva for being such an awesome emcee/entertainer at our volunteer recognition event! I would also like to thank Catholic Charities Hawai‘i’s President & CEO, Jerry Rauckhorst, for pulling double duty and playing an integral role in our VAD program. I would also like to thank all of the Catholic Charities Hawai‘i staff who took time out of their extremely busy schedules to help out at our event, so that our volunteers could simply sit back and enjoy their special day! It was truly a collaborative effort and we have received a lot of positive feedback about the event. Our Intergenerational Easter Celebration was also a big hit-especially with our young friends from the Lanakila Elementary School’s Head Start program. Thank you to all the amazing teachers who work so hard with our community’s keiki. They brought so much joy to the Center’s members! A special mahalo goes out to the Planning Committee and volunteers: Puna Frank, Helen Castillon, and Marty Kaili. Every detail of the event was perfectly executed and the children has such a blast during the egg hunt! It was wonderful! Upcoming on May 20, 2015 is our annual Memorial Program, where we celebrate the lives of our friends who have gone before us. Please join us and their families as we honor their memory with fellowship and song by our very own Harry & Flora Nakasone, Taisho Koto and Marion Arakaki-Sensei’s Enka Class. On behalf of the Catholic Charities Hawai‘i staff, we wish you and your family a very Happy Mother’s Day & a safe Memorial Day holiday! Client Satisfaction surveys will be distributed week of May 11th ~ 15th Please return to Front Desk. Jerry Rauckhorst, President & CEO of Catholic Charities Hawai‘i giving the blessing while entertainer, Rodney Villanueva stands by to provide tons of laughter to our special volunteers at our annual Volunteer Appreciation Day event on April 16, 2015. The members can look forward to a fun day participating in interactive games with the keikis, story telling, and a comical hula number (Hukilau).
