Summer is in full swing and here at Lanakila JCC, during the month of July, we're focusing on YOU!
Ai Takamatsu, Service Supervisor at Mastercare Inc., will be here on July 6th to speak with us on how we can better help our elderly live more comfortably by providing specific needs for their care. Some of the services available are
skilled nursing, 24-hour care, home health care and medical staffing solutions.
Under the sponsorship of Hawaii Pacific Health and supported by the M. Lou Hefley, MD Endowment Fund and
Straub Foundation, Dr. S. Kalani Brady and his 2015 Summer Student Research Scholars will visit with us on July 13th
from 9:00-12 noon. A very familiar personality both at Lanakila and television, Dr. Brady will lead his scholars in providing vital information for seniors as well as demonstrations by local experts, on staying active and eating healthy. For those
of us who registered with the front office, a special bento will follow this session. All members of LMPSC are invited to
attend.
JCC members born during the month of July will be serenaded by the sounds of the taisho koto. Under the direction of Sensei Yasuko Takeuchi, she and her students will entertain us with Japanese and American children's folk songs
as well as familiar songs popular in Japan as well as Hawaii. All this will take place on Monday, July 20th. Special birthday
celebrants include Betty Aoki, Maria Artis, John Kitashiro, Alice Masuda and Lillian Yajima.
The long awaited session with Cullen Hayashida will take place on July 27th. Mr. Hayashida represents the Kupuna Monitoring System. He will speak on how a monitoring system may help us live more securely and with peace of
mind for family as well. We sincerely hope you will be able to join us.

Aloha Mai,
On June 9th our club members went on an outing headed for the Pali. As we left the Pali we went to visit an
area near the entrance the entrance of the Royal Hawaii, Golf Course, where in 1878 Queen Liliuokalani had visited the
ranch where Edwin Boyd resided. While riding home on horseback she turned to look at the view of Kaneohe bay when
she saw Colonel James Boyd and a young lady. The inspiration for the song Aloha Oe came when she saw the two people
slowly and affectionately bid each other farewell. A hui hou.
