Movie Trailers with iMovie for iPads Movie Clips There are two ways to get video to be used in your project: • Use clips already stored on your device. The advantage to this method is that you have more editing options. • Record videos directly from within iMovie. The advantage of this method is that you have directions within iMovie as to what type of clip is needed. Creating your Trailer Use the + button on the main screen, select New Trailer and then choose the type/theme of trailer to create. Tap Create to begin. Editing The first screen, the Outline, will allow you to edit the credits. Click Storyboard if you just want to just get on with making the trailer. Blue areas are text that can be edited. Click to replace the default text. Gray items are those that require video. Note: You are told the length of clip needed and the type of shot that would be best. To use video you have already filmed… • Click on a storyboard item to choose a video clip. Note: clips that are too short will be grayed out •

Videos already stored on your devices will be shown in the bottom left. Tap one that is long enough. Drag your finger along the clip to preview it. When you reach the clip that you want to use, tap the blue arrow next to your highlighted section. It’ll fly over to the storyboard. Keeler 3/2013 2 Note: As you add more clips to the storyboard, sections you’ve already used will be indicated with a luminous orange line. To record video in iMovie… • Use the camera button to open up an embedded recording feature. • When using the built-­‐in record function, you’re given a 3 second lead-­in before the actual clip is shot. Tap the record button to start & stop recording •
You can edit the portion of the clip that is used by tapping on the clip after you have recorded it. Previewing To preview how the movie looks so far, use one of the two play buttons. To export your masterpiece, save it to the camera roll, and head back to the main project screen by tapping the Back to projects button. •
Select the share icon to be presented with these choices: •
Select Share Movie to Camera Roll and select the export size. Medium or Large file sizes produce smaller files that are easier to upload to the web. Note: It may take several minutes to compress the file and export it to the camera roll.
