Using Devices
If you use EDIUS with other devices in such cases as capturing from a video camera or output using input/output
hardware, editing environments must be set up before you start editing.

operations have been checked, visit the Grass Valley website.
Our Website0 P4
Using Camera or VTR for Capturing or Recording
To set up the environment to use EDIUS with other devices for capturing from a camera or exporting to tape, the
devices to be used with EDIUS must be registered. See the Hardware Setting Guide for more details.
Perform Capturing or Monitor Output using Hardware
You can perform capturing or monitor output using video input/output hardware devices manufactured by Grass Valley
or other manufacturers. In EDIUS, you can output the video being edited to a monitor in full frame and full resolution in
real time, which enables easy previewing for adjustment of colors or timing for cuts.
For hardware installation or connection to a monitor, see the instruction manual attached to your device.
Some hardware products may require settings on EDIUS or its application, to be recognized by EDIUS. For details, visit
the Grass Valley website or the instruction manual attached to your product.

Storing Device Presets
For device presets, store and manage the connection information of external devices used for capturing or exporting
(cameras, decks, web cameras, microphones, and input/output hardware products) as the presets. By using the device
presets stored, capturing and exporting operations can be performed smoothly.
Be sure to register device presets before capturing or tape output.
For details on the settings, see the Hardware Setting Guide.
3 • External equipment in which file-based video or audio are recorded (removable media such as CD/DVD, SD
memory card) are not required to be stored as device presets, as the files can be stored to EDIUS using the bin
or source browser.
• If you use a hardware product by a manufacturer other than Grass Valley, settings besides for EDIUS may be
required. For details, visit the Grass Valley website or see the instruction manual attached to your product.

(length) is also changed.
1 Right-click on a clip, and click [Time Effect] → [Speed].
The [Speed] dialog box appears.
2 Enter the ratio in [Rate].
Enter a numerical value of the ratio of the speed compared to the original clip.
To make the speed faster, enter a value larger than 100%, and to make it slower, enter a value smaller than 100%.
2 Alternative
• Check [Change the Clip Duration on Timeline] in the [Speed] dialog box, and enter the clip duration in [Duration].
3 Click [OK].
An orange line is displayed on clips whose speed has been changed.
Changing Playback Speed of Part of Clip (Time Remap)
You can alter the speed of any part of a clip.
The speed is changed by setting a frame to be the key and adjusting the intervals. For example, if you shorten the key
frame duration to make the playback speed faster, the remaining frames are automatically interpolated, and as a result,
the speed of the previous/next frames is changed. The In point of a clip, the frame of the Out point, and the overall
length remain unchanged.

3 • When a clip on which freeze frame is enabled is trimmed, operations differ as follows depending on the fixed
position.
- When the In point side of a clip with a fixed In point is trimmed, the displayed frame also moves along with the
trimming. Operation is not affected when the Out point side has been trimmed.
- When the Out point side of a clip with a fixed Out point is trimmed, the displayed frame also moves along with
the trimming. Operation is not affected when the In point side has been trimmed.

This chapter explains how to export projects whose editing have been completed.
You can export projects in a variety of file formats, to disc media such as DVD or BD, and to tape media
such as HDV and DV devices.
Before Exporting
Before Exporting
Checking/Adjusting Brightness and Color
Even a video finely displayed on a PC monitor may cause problems like highlight/shadow detail loss when actually
displayed on a TV monitor. Although the best solution is to edit the video in an environment that the final video is
screened while checking the screening regulations, in many cases, editing must be performed without such
environment and regulation check means. In such cases, use the vector scope or waveform to check the brightness
and colors, and perform the editing process.
Checking Brightness and Color
Vector scope and waveform can monitor the brightness and colors, allowing fine adjustment of detailed parts that
cannot be seen by eyes.
1
Move the timeline cursor and display the image to check the color data on the Recorder.
2
Click [Toggle Vector Scope/Waveform Display] on the timeline.

Adjusting Audio Volume
Use the normalization function to adjust the entire audio volume and use the V-mute function to reduce momentary
noise.
Normalizing Audio of Multiple Clips
Normalization function is useful to perform entire volume adjustment. Set a reference level of audio and adjust the
volume of the entire video at one time. When normalization is applied to multiple clips, the volume level is adjusted to
be appropriate for each clip.
1

variance in the volume between programs and broadcasting stations. Loudness is numerically converted value that
represent sound level sensed by humans. EDIUS can measure the noise level that is compliant with the ITU-R
BS.1770-2 and EBU R128 loudness standards.
The loudness of the current sequence can be measured in the following procedure.
