Back in 1931, the YMCA operated out of the Carlisle Building at the corner of Paint and Second Streets. The YMCA was later housed at 133 W. Second Street from 1939 until the current facility was constructed in 1963. What many people don’t know is that the YMCA existed long before Mr. Yaple and Co. incorporated in 1931. During the midst of World War I in 1917, the United States War Department constructed Camp Sherman along the present day route 104. There were 11 YMCA's built for the soldiers across the camp grounds which provided food and entertainment. There was one YMCA constructed specifically for the African Americans. Today, our YMCA serves over 100,000 visitors per year. We currently enjoy over 3,000 members and employ 90 full and part-time staff members. Each year, over 350 young people learn to swim in our aquatics program. Over 250 children play sports in our Youth Basketball league. Nearly 100 children attend our summer camp program. Our cause is to strengthen our community through programs focused on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. Also, visit our social media sites: Facebook.com/rossymca Twitter.com/rossymca POLICIES Membership Details As a full-facility member of the YMCA of Ross County, you are entitled to use the facility during all open hours. Members are also entitled to participate in all programs at reduced rates or at no additional charge. Membership may be purchased in full at the time of joining by cash, check, credit or debit card, or by monthly bank or card draft. Membership by be downgraded only after a six (6) month wait, per change. You must give 30 days notice to cancel your membership or to make any changes to your membership. Membership cards are required for admittance to the YMCA. Cards are non-transferable and may be not utilized by anyone other than the approved card holder. AWAY and Reciprocity Programs Members of the YMCA are able to utilize all YMCA facilities in the state of Ohio, and 90% of facilities throughout the United States, free of charge. Through the My Y is Every Y program, you are able to show your membership card to any Ohio YMCA and gain full access to their facility. Some restrictions may apply. Corporate Membership Program Corporations and businesses may apply for the partnership discount program. See us for more details. Expulsion Policy Members or guests of the YMCA may be permanently excluded from our facility and programs for reasons necessary for the protection of our other members. Reasons for expulsion include, but are not limited to, physical harm to another person; sexually offensive actions or threats of such actions; being a register sex offender; any violent or improper behavior against another person. Permanent expulsion is reserved for situations where suspension will not adequately protect YMCA members, volunteers, program participants and staff. Guest Passes The YMCA welcomes guests to visit and participate in our facility and programs. Guests must be accompanied by a member and bring valid photo ID. Guests may participate in group exercise classes, where space permits. Passes are priced as follows, but are subject to change: Before 4pm: After 4pm: S O C I A L R E S P O N S I B I L I T Y $10 $5 Supervision of Children Children ages 8 to 12 may use the facility for one (1) hour without parental supervision. If the child is left for greater than one hour, the parent or guardian may be notified. Children 7 and under must be supervised at all times. The YMCA reserves the right to amend this policy without notice. Locker Rooms Each locker room has reservable lockers for a fee, as well as free lockers for daily use. The Y is not responsible for items lost or stolen. STAY & PLAY (CHILD WATCH ) Wanting to get in shape, but don’t have a regularly sitter to watch your child while you do? Visit our Stay & Play room on the 2nd floor. Children ages 6 months to 8 years are eligible to stay for up to two (2) hours in our nursery, with the caring YMCA staff. Parents and guardians must remain in the YMCA building while children are in Stay & Play. Page 15 CERTIFICATIONS AND TRAININGS S O C I A L LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION CPR / AED CERTIFICATION R $275 per person E Being a lifeguard can be a very challenging and reS warding job. The purpose of this class is to teach P participants the knowledge and skills needed to preO vent and respond to aquatic emergencies. N Participants must be 16 years of age and pass the S physical competency test to be eligible. YMCA lifeI guard certification is good for two (2) years. Price of program includes Lifeguard Manual ($32), CPR Mask B ($14) and Certification Fees ($37). I L FIRST AID CERTIFICATION I $60 per person T Y The goal of this training is to teach individuals how to respond to common first aid emergencies, including cuts, burns, head and neck and back injuries and more. Page 14 MEMBERSHIP MEMBERSHIP DETAILS $75 per person What’s Included? The goal of this training is to help students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to respond in medical emergencies. The class will teach how to respond effectively to cardiac and breathing emergencies with adults, children and infants. Additionally, it will teach the use of automated external defibrillators (AED). BABYSITTING TRAINING $65 per person The child and babysitting safety training program is designed to focus on supervising, caring for, and keeping children and infants safe in babysitting settings. The program provides fundamental information in the area of babysitting, proper supervision, basic caregiving skills, and responding properly to ill or injured children and infants. Our state-licensed program is rooted in the concept that learning and play are interconnected. We provide a safe, engaging and consistent environment for all children. Our program has year-round availability. We have adapted the Creative Curriculum® for preparing the children for Kindergarten. We also believe in the importance of creative activity, play and recreation. Children in the Y Preschool frequently have opportunities for free play, field trips to the park, swimming in our pool and structured recreation in the gymnasium. Curriculum The YMCA Preschool utilizes the Creative Curriculum®, an award winning curriculum for preschool success. The program is research driven, and is based on 38 objectives for development and learning. Students have opportunities for individualized instruction, across all facets of learning (e.g., math, science, art). D E V E L O P M E N T Teachers and Aides Our teachers and aides have specialized, collegiate education in early childhood learning and education. They have amazing compassion for children and love helping each child learn to their greatest potential. Our teachers and aides seek to help children gain confidence, explore their surroundings, collaborate with other children, improve their self esteem, to learn and have fun. The Y Preschool is state-licensed by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Children in our preschool must be 3 years old before enrolling and must be potty trained. Children in the program have included access to our before school and after school programs, for working parents who start their day before 9am or end after 3pm. The program is located on-site at the YMCA and transportation is provided to and from Chillicothe City Schools, Bishop Flaget and Unioto*. While our program allows for activity choice, they provide educationally based focus and homework assistance. Our program also allows children the opportunity for skill development, through swimming, sports play, gymnastics activities and more! We also provide snacks and lots of fun for children. Hours Our Before School program operates from 6:15am until the buses depart in the morning. Our After School program operates from the time buses arrive (roughly 2:45pm) until we close all child care programs at 6:00pm. YMCA SNOW DAYS $15 per day /Current Students $25 per day /Non-Students Snow days are a reality of life living in Ohio, but it doesn’t have to be a problem for parents. The YMCA makes every effort to remain open throughout the winter, to provide a place for children to come while their parents trudge off to work through the blizzard. We offer all-day care (from 6:15am to 6:00pm) for children who are affected by snow days. To pre-register for a spot in our Snow Days program, please visit us at the front desk for more information. YMCA SUMMER CAMP Before we know it, snow and the cold will leave us and we will be thinking about beaches and sunshine. Prepare your plans for you child ahead of time by enrolling in 2015 Summer Camp at the Y. Our camp has improved, through the Y Day Camp Upgrade and will feature more structured activities, more outdoor experiences and field trips. Camp is at the heart of the Y, so make your child’s summer the Best Summer Ever by enrolling today! WELLNESS Tabata This class is another type of high intensity interval training, intermixing exercise and rest periods in a number of cycles. Tabata improves cardiovascular health, as well as overall strength. Eight rounds of 20 seconds of exercise, along with 10 second rest periods...and you’re interval training at its best! Inspiring instructors and energizing music will keep you moving and smiling as you step on and off platforms, with or without risers. Increase your intensity with speed, step height and movements. Silver Sneakers classes are designed for older adults who are looking to improve their muscle strength, range of motion and overall well being. The classes are designed to operate at each person’s own pace, with the support of instructors and friends. Players, volunteer coaches, officials and spectators share a responsibility for fair play and good sportsmanship. Through YBL, youth learn to play competitive basketball with and against their peers, while living the value fundamental to good character. Location YMCA GYM #2 This class is the next-level gymnastics class for boys and girls ages 3 and 4. Children continue their focus on skill development, following direction and sharing. This class was formerly “Tumblestars.” YMCA GYM #1 Weight management group class is a twice-a-week, one hour class focused entirely on proper nutrition, learning about food labels, creating meal plans and incorporating healthy eating into your life. You will receive health tips, meal plans and recipes to help you achieve your fitness goals. PT + Sports Nutrition is a holistic approach to not only exercise right, but to eat right too. You will learn about proper fuel for your body, as well as the right food to prepare for endurance events (e.g., Marathons, Iron Man, Triathlons). Page 11 SPORTS H E A L T H ADULT SPORTS Y L I V I N G COMING SOON Adult Basketball League $325 /Team Get out and compete with your friends, coworkers or old teammates for a fun, recreational basketball league. The adult basketball league is 5 on 5, full-court basketball of two 20-minute halves. Each game is refereed, but competitors are expected to display the Y’s Core Values: Respect, Responsibility, Caring and Honesty. Bring your crew out for a fun rec league! In an effort to help our community develop healthier habits, more active lifestyles and better friendships, the YMCA is looking for programs to engage adults in team-based fun. YMCA GYM #1 Level 2 $75 CHEERLEADING Formerly called “Swingers”, this class is the next step towards team. Focusing on skills and coordination, children learn the essentials for gymnastics. YMCA GYM #1 The YMCA Gymnastics team is a competitive group who competes across Ohio and annually at the national meet. All team members must be members of the YMCA of Ross County. Participation is by try-out only, for ages up to 18 years old. Y O U T H WED This class is designed for parents and children, ages 18 months to 3 years. This class is built to enhance connection with your child, along with facilitate their physical development through a host of activities. Children move through progressive levels as they increase swimming distance, endurance and ability with each level. Pike: Pike introduces new swimmers to the pool PARENT / CHILD SWIM LESSONS $30/Members $60/Guests Parent / Child Lessons (ages 6 mo - 2 years) This 45-minute class is a water adjustment class. The child will learn water safety, basic stroke development, such as kicking and floating, and will also enjoy games and songs that reinforce water skills. Parents will learn how to handle their young swimmer while in the water, as well as balance and towing. YMCA POOL SAT 9:45 AM Infant Aquatics (ages 6 mo - 2 years) This 20-minute class teaches self-rescue swimming lessons to toddlers and children. The course trains the child to roll from a face-down position in the water to face-up independent back float. Infants and toddlers cannot raise their heads to take a breath, so learning how to roll can save their life. This course is taught in a safe, empowering way for parents and children to develop skills to save lives. YMCA POOL Page 8 SAT 10:00 AM and helps them develop safe water habits in a fun and encouraging environment. Swimmers will focus on basic paddle stroke, kicking skills, blowing bubbles in the water, front and black floats and water safety. Eel: Eel is designed for swimmers who are well adjusted to the water and have completed Pike skills. Eels continue to build on the basics learned in Pike, such as kicking and progressive paddle strokes. Students learn to float on their own and swim longer distances. Ray: Ray is intended to allow swimmers a chance to begin developing endurance as well as improving stroke skills. Swimmers will be introduced to rhythmic breathing, front and back crawl, treading water and rescue skills. Starfish: Starfish is an advanced level for those swimmers who are proficient in front crawl and are comfortable with deeper water. In this level, students will build endurance and be introduced to more advanced strokes. YMCA POOL YMCA POOL YMCA POOL MON WED SAT 6:15PM 6:15PM 10:30AM Youth Swim Lessons (ages 6-12) Youth Swim Lessons build on stroke development, rescue, personal growth, safety, water sports and games. Children move through progressive levels as they increase swimming distance, endurance and ability. Polliwog: Beginner level for school age children to become acquainted with the water and begin to learn front, back, and side strokes using instruction- Students refine previously learned strokes and are introduced to breaststroke, backstroke and sidestroke. Goggles are recommended for all advanced levels. Must be able to swim independently front and back paddle 20 feet and float independently on front and back for 30 seconds. Minnow: Swimmers learn to tread water as well as learn how to perform a kneeling or stand dive. Must be able to swim independently 40 feet of front with rotary breathing and back crawl stroke. Fish: Students work to perform the crawl, backstroke, back crawl and sidestroke with turns. Introduction to butterfly stroke is included. Must be able to swim all strokes 50 yards without stopping. Flying Fish: Students will work on refining their swimming skills and increasing their endurance up to 100 yards for many of the strokes. Shark: Swimmers focus on perfecting strokes and increasing endurance with open and flip turns. The class is perfect for those looking to make a splash by adding low-impact, high-energy aquatic exercise to their fitness routine. The class blends Zumba philosophy with water resistance, for one pool party you shouldn’t miss! T/TH Y O U T H D E V E L O P M E N T 5:30PM Open Swim / Rec. Swim (all ages) This 45-minute class is designed as one-on-one instruction to meet your individual swimming needs. Your instructor will assess your skill level and implement the most appropriate instruction tailored to your goals. SAT The Marlins swim program has been a staple of the YMCA since the 1960’s. Countless leaders from our community have been avid participants in our competitive swim program. The Marlins compete against other YMCA’s across the state in a host of swim distances. Swimmers for decades have developed their skills as a part of the swim team. Our natatorium continues to have swim records posted from decades ago, as our new swimmers aim to set new marks. Our team is founded on the notion that teamwork, support and effort are the foundations of lifelong success. YMCA POOL $65/Members $150/Guests One class per week YMCA POOL Marlins Swim Team We offer over 35 hours per week of open swim or recreational swim time in our pool for members and guests. This time is designed to enjoy the water, participate in enjoyable water activities and to increase your overall fitness strategies. Children under the age of 16 must pass a swim aptitude test to utilize the deep end of the pool. 10:00 AM THERAPEUTIC WATER ACTIVITY $25/Members (per month) $55/Guests This 45-minute class is designed to meet the criteria of the Arthritis Foundation’s recommendations for water based activity for adults.
