A note from Mrs. K
As I write this letter the sun is out, the sky is blue and students and
teachers are working in their classrooms. It is tremendously
enjoyable to see the excitement in the eyes of our students as they
are actively engaged in enriching activities. Our teachers are the
best.
This has been a truly amazing year, which I have thoroughly enjoyed.
This year has been full of hard work and has been a massive learning
experience for all of us especially me. We have covered a lot of
material and participated in many fun and exciting projects.
Students, you bring such joy and happiness to our school. We are
truly fortunate to have such a wonderful group of children at North
Crawford Elementary School. My friends and family often laugh at
me when I refer to you as “my kids,” but I think of each of you as my
own children. You have touched my life and this school by your
presence.
Parents, it has been my pleasure getting to know not only your child,
but you as well. Having parental support and open lines of
communication is an essential part of any successful school year.
Thank you for all you have done to make our year so fulfilling and
memorable.
To our fifth grade students who are preparing to embark on a new
journey into middle school. Good Luck! You are a wonderful class and
will do great things. I encourage you to continue on “The North
Crawford Way”!
Have a fantastic summer!

Brandon Munson – Summer Baseball Coordinator
Amanda Ziemer – Summer Softball Coordinator
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We would like to welcome you all to another season of North Crawford Summer Rec Baseball and
Softball. We are counting down the days until we get on the field and start practicing. We were thrilled
with the turnout of boys and girls in last year’s program, and hope to see even higher participation
rates this summer.
This year’s Ridge and Valley teams will be coordinated by Brandon Munson for baseball, and Amanda
Ziemer for softball. We are in desperate need of coaches for all of our baseball teams. If you or
someone you know is interested in coaching or assisting with one of our baseball teams, please contact
Brandon Munson at 624-5201 immediately.
Also in this newsletter you will find the registration form. Please sign your son/daughter up for the
team that they qualify to play on. Students will ONLY play up to the team above them if there is a
shortage of players on that team. If there are not enough players to make up a team, we may need to
combine teams. Upon receipt of the registration form, we will send home detailed practice and game
schedules with your son/daughter.
ALL REGISTRATION FORMS SHOULD BE RETURNED TO THE OFFICE BY
TH
FRIDAY, MAY 6
Our priority this summer is to provide our kids with a safe and fun learning environment to play the
game of baseball and softball. If you have any questions concerning Summer Rec, please give Brandon
or Amanda a call at 624-5201 or email [email protected] or [email protected].

Family Access Tips and Tricks
Our Skyward computer system has some great features for families to keep
track of how their student is doing in real time. Once you have logged into
Family Access, which is located at www.northcrawford.com on the left hand
side (Skyward Family Access), check out these great features:
Tabs on the Left:
Attendance
•
You can check your child’s attendance as it is happening; if there is an
attendance event the day will be shaded with a color. Click on that day and find
out what the attendance event was.
•
This is where you will do attendance notifications to the office as well.
Calendar
•
Any missing assignments will be in red.
•
You can scroll over or click on any assignment on the calendar for more
Homework
•
Watch the calendar for assignments that are due in the future to help
your student stay on track.

You can set up different email notifications, such as attendance and
progress reports to be directly sent to your email address. I would recommend
only running progress reports on a weekly basis.

Attention Family Members, Community Members, Parents, Grandparents &
Former Graduates
Like many other School Districts in the state, one of the biggest workforce shortages
we have been experiencing for the past several years, is finding qualified bus drivers. As
the spring season approaches, my biggest worry is the availability of sufficient drivers to
cover our multiple extra-curricular trips and evening routes.
We are attempting to reach those members of our community who perhaps have
never thought of driving a bus. We have personnel that can assist you with the training
needed to obtain your bus driver’s license.
Once you have a license, you have several driving options to consider. If you have
always enjoyed attending some of the athletic or co-curricular activities, instead of driving
yourself to the activity, you could bring the team and as an added bonus enjoy free
admission.
If you are looking for a more permanent position you may be interested in a regular
bus route. You could drive morning or afternoon routes or both and earn $10,000.00 or
more per year plus benefits.
We have a number of different driving opportunities available. If you are not
interested in a regular or part-time driving position but would just like to help out on an
emergency basis, that option is also available. We hope you will contact us and become a
part of the North Crawford transportation team. If you are between the ages of 18 to 118,
enjoy driving, and can pass a physical, give us a call us at the Bus Garage—(608)6243484.
Thank you for your kind consideration of this opportunity,
Jerred Powell, Transportation Director
8th Grade Promotion Ceremony
This year’s 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony will be
held on Thursday, May 26th at 7 pm in the large gym.
Following the ceremony, please join us for an
informal social with snacks and refreshments in the
Commons. We look forward to your attendance as wel
celebrate this occasion.
8th grade students will not have school on Friday May
27th. However, a teacher reserves the right to request
an 8th to attend that day if they have academic needs
in their class.
A Baccalaureate Service honoring the
graduates of the North Crawford High
School Class of 2016 will be held Sunday,
May 22, 2016 at 7:00pm in the North
Crawford Performance Center. Please join
us.

KICKAPOO KIDS
On Wednesday April 27th , North Crawford hosted an assembly to introduce the "Kickapoo
Kids" and have them share their memories with out student body on their Amazing Run to the
State Baseball tournaments in 1950,1951 and 1953.
The Players and Teams were inducted into the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in
February. I was fortunate to have been included in the ceremony presenting the teams with
their Hall of Fame Plaques and Trophies. They received a 10 minute standing ovation from
those in attendance of 400+ people.
They presented the Hall of Fame plaques and Trophy to North Crawford at the conclusion of
the assembly.
Paul Lagan, writer of the book, "The Amazing Journey of the Kickapoo Kids," was the main
speaker of this event.
Wisconsin Public School Observance Days
June 14
Robert La Follette Sr. Day
Robert M. La Follette Sr. is widely regarded as Wisconsin’s most
distinguished political leader. He served in the U.S. House of
Representatives from 1885 to 1891, as Wisconsin Governor from 1900 to
1906, and in the U.S Senate from 1906 until his death in 1925. He was one of
the founders if the National Progressive Party and was that party’s
candidate for president in 1924. A national poll of historians and senators
in 1957 named La Follette one of the most distinguished nonliving
senators. This day is observed if school is in session.

Opportunity
What is CSA?
CSA is MUCH MORE than just a weekly delivery
of food or food products. Community Supported
Agriculture (CSA) is a powerful investment in
your health, community, and local economy. It’s
a partnership between farms and consumers that
keeps independent businesses thriving, helps
families eat seasonal, local produce, and
charges farmers and consumers with the
responsibility of building a strong, equitable food
I’m on a limited income. Is there
financial assistance?
North Crawford works with FairShare’s Partner
Shares Program to reduce the barriers of CSA
membership in our community by providing costsharing opportunities, and accepting payment
plans and Quest card payments. Low-income
households can get up to a $300 grant toward
the cost of joining a farm. Funds are limited so it’
s best to apply sooner than later

North Crawford has partnered with
a local CSA producer to provide onsite delivery of Fresh Local Organic

Miss Ziemer applied and was awarded a grant from the Meemic
Foundation. The grant money was used to purchase the Top 20
Training’s SMART Board Curriculum for 5th grade. The Top 20
Training is a curriculum that is designed to strengthen students’ selfworth and enhance their potential to communicate, problem solve,
and learn.
Miss Ziemer was very thankful for the North Crawford School District
allowing her to attend a two-day workshop on the Top 20 Training. She saw
great possibilities when she started to implement its ideas in her class.
Purchasing the SMART Board curriculum for the Top 20 Training will be a
great asset in equipping students for success in life. The Meemic
Foundation grant made that happen for years to come
Frequently Asked Questions About Open
Enrollment
What is Open Enrollment?
The inter-district public school open enrollment program allows parents to apply
for their children to attend public school in a school district other than the one in
which they reside.
Who can apply?
Any Wisconsin resident in five-year-old kindergarten to grade 12 may apply to
attend a nonresident school district under the open enrollment program.
However, a child may transfer to a nonresident school district for early
childhood education or four-year-old kindergarten only if the child’s resident
school district offers the same type of program and only if the child is eligible for
that program in the resident school district.
When can parents apply?
The regular open enrollment application period for the 2016-17 school year
begins on February 1, 2016, and ends at 4:00 pm on April 29, 2016. The best
way to apply is online (a link to the online application is at the top of this page
during the application period). Additional information on the regular open
enrollment application season can be found on our applications page.
An alternative application procedure allows pupils to apply for open enrollment
at any time during a school year if certain criteria are met. For additional
information, please visit the alternative application procedures page.
Can applications be denied?
Both the nonresident and resident school districts may deny an application for
reasons specified in state law. If an application is denied by either the resident
or nonresident school district, the parent may file an appeal with the DPI within
30 days. The DPI is required to affirm the school district’s decision unless the
DPI determines that the decision was arbitrary or unreasonable.
How do students get to school?
Parents are responsible to provide transportation to and from school in the
nonresident school district, except that transportation required in a child’s IEP
must be provided by the nonresident school district. A nonresident or resident
school district is permitted (but not required) to provide transportation to open
enrolled pupils, however the nonresident school district is prohibited from
picking up or dropping off a pupil within the boundaries of the pupil’s resident
school district unless the resident school district agrees. Low-income parents
may apply to the DPI for reimbursement of a portion of their transportation
costs.

Read Across America Day ( March 2, 2016)
at North Crawford Elementary School
Above: Mrs. Klema’s 5K
class enjoyed a visit from
the
Cat-in-the-Hat.
Students also dressed up
with their favorite book
character for the day.
The Cat-in-the- Hat stopped in
1st grade to read a story to
both classes.
They really
enjoyed the story...On Mulberry
Street by Dr. Seuss.
