My achievements up to this point had been recognised and I had been given this great opportunity to show senior management what I was capable of. The program gave participants maximum exposure to the leaders of Tyco, to hear their stories and receive personal advice. The plant visits were very enjoyable; I believe they form an important part of the program. The graduation cruise was a great close out to such an intense program that was well planned and delivered. What I found most challenging about the program? Getting through the presentations and comprehensive assignments in such a short timeframe, however I think the fact that it was so challenging is what gave me such a sense of achievement once completed. Cauchi, Charles Title: Division: Operations Manager GTS PWES – Water & Environment Systems Hire Date: 03.06.2002 Location: Coffs Harbour/ Perth/ Coffs Harbour Previous 2 Positions: 2002 - Current Contracts/Operations/Business Manager What I enjoyed most about the program? The content of the course was very appropriate at that stage of my career and the financial & administration training certainly set me up to take on senior management roles. The networking allowed for different parts of Tyco to work together cohesively and the business I worked for had a huge benefit from this. A great program and I highly recommend to anyone with career aspirations. What I found most challenging about the program? Farrell, Wayne 7-44 Balancing your normal work load with the assignments that had to be done was the most challenge. I actually enjoyed the work, it extended me and provided a great deal of stimulation. I still refer to some of the information I was given today. Title: Division: Business Development Manager PWES - Water Infrastructure Group Hire Date: 23.08.1993 Location: Yennora Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? 2008 - Current BD Manager WI Group 2001 - 2008 GM Tyco Water Services I came away from the course with a broader understanding of general management principals and techniques, and some great friendships and business contacts within Tyco that I still call upon today. I really appreciated the opportunity and the vision the company had to invest in its people this way. For me it was finding the extra time in an already busy life to complete all of the assignments. The workload outside of the course attendance was much greater than I expected and resulted in many long nights at home to complete assignments. Fenton, Brian Title: Division: Director of Engineering Clean Air Systems PWES - Environmental Hire Date: 02.08.1993 Location: Milperra Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? Heller, Patrick 8-44 2006 - Current Director of Engineering CAS 2003 - 2006 Category Manager CAS I very much enjoyed the workshop approach, and the contacts I made with other parts of our business. Meeting the CEO and senior executives gave a good insight to the workings of the organisation as a whole. The MDP certainly helped to broaden my view of the organisation and also to the ways in which we can improve our business. I have no doubt at all that this was the most effective training I have done since completing my degree. Whilst the assignments required some dedication of time to complete, consistently the most challenging and rewarding aspect was simply the inward reflection of your own performance and the recognition of how to best implement what was being learned. Title: Division: Product Manager- Water Quality PWES- Environmental Hire Date: 17.03.1997 Location: Warwick Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? 2006 - Current Product Manager – Water Quality 2003 - 2006 Manufacturing Manager Meeting and getting to know the other participants was what I enjoyed most. The people on our program actively, freely and generously got involved in the training and the social activity. Completing the assessment work on time was challenging (but also rewarding). Pickering, David Title: Division: Fittings Manager PWES – Water Solutions Hire Date: 15.10.2001 Location: Kwinana Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? Read, Peter 9-44 2001 - Current Fittings Manager Meeting fellow work colleagues from the differing Tyco business across Australia. Following their career paths from time to time and gaining an insight into the expanse and variety of differing types of Tyco activities Finding time to meet the balance of work & family commitments together with completing the necessary assignment work Current Title: Division: Service Operations Manager- WA PV&C - Australia Hire Date: 24.11.1986 Location: Wangara Previous 2 Positions: 2010 - Current Service Operations Manager WA 2009 - 2010 What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? Manager Hydraulics & Maintenance The insights that were conveyed from the course administrators and the other Tyco people working in different states and markets. The work was towards a qualification specifically in line with my duties which made implementation at the workplace easy and rewarding. Implementation of the knowledge I gained back that the business face, some of the changes created by the knowledge was culture breaking so that was a challenge but a positive experience as well for me. Reilly, Shane Title: Division: Customer Service & Logistics Manager (acting) PWES – Water Solutions Hire Date: 22.05.2002 Location: Somerton Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? Renden, Gerry 10-44 2002 - Current Customer Service & Logistics Mgr Meeting other Tyco employees and learning more about what they do. The program was well organised and covered many topics and moved at a good speed. I did enjoy the Plant Tours. After hours was a real bonus. Finding the time to do the homework properly. Title: Division: Hire Date : Location: Previous 2 Positions: Prod Manager- Environmental Products PWES - Environmental 21.01.1993 Milperra 2009 - Current Production Manager–Environmental 2007 - 2009 What I enjoyed most about the program? OPEX - Six Sigma Black Belt TES I enjoyed the holistic approach to the course topics which most business functions were covered across the course duration. I also enjoyed the networking between the Tyco groups as I still speak to people in my MDP group 6 years later What I found most challenging about the program? Completing assignments I was the most unfamiliar with i.e. Finance Being in the first MDP so we had no benchmark for expectations with assignments and workload etc Sheringham, Michael Title: Division: Polymer Scientist PWES - Water Solutions Hire Date: 01.10.2002 Location: Somerton Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? 2002 - Current Polymer Scientist The MDP was great, it gave me the opportunity to meet people from different parts of the Tyco group. I still use these contacts to help me with information I need for the projects I am involved in. The program provided me with a better understanding of how and what makes a business work What I found most challenging about the program? Stewart, Jeremy 11-44 The challenging part of the course for me was the accounting/finance section as this is not my background, however the information was well presented so I was able to make sense of it all. Title: Division: GM – Water Monitoring PWES - Water & Environment Systems Hire Date: 04.01.2005 Location: Milperra Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? 2011 - Current GM Water Monitoring (TES) 2010 - 2011 Acting GM TWESNZ Combining in class learning and afterhours socialising with colleagues from all areas of Tyco was a great mix. Since the course I have come across people from our MDP class in various instances and due to the program it has made working together very easy. Completing the assignments in addition to the regular workload was probably the most challenging aspect of the class. Although this was the most challenging, many of these assignments were very related to work situations and it was just a matter of finding time to get them done. Van Den Borne, Nathan Current Title: Division: Finance Manager- Projects PWES – Water Solutions Hire Date: 22.04.2003 Location: Yennora Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? Yuen, David 12-44 2012 - Current Finance Manager-Projects 2010 - 2012 Finance Manager-DIPS & Cust. Centre Networking and the general content of the program. The opportunity to meet other colleagues that I deal with over the phone and by email was valuable. The program included both practical and theory which I could apply to my job and the knowledge that I gained from it really helped develop my career further. One of the challenges was time, as most of the participants were still required to be in touch with the business during the course. However we were all committed to the program and invested the time on our careers. 2006 MDP PARTICIPANTS 13-44 Title: Division: National Sales Pivot Manager PWES - Water Dynamics Hire Date: 01.10.2001 Location: Longford Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? 2010 - Current National Sales Pivot Manager 2005 - Current Branch Manager Enjoyed the learning experience and meeting others in Tyco, the challenge of completing the course and receiving a diploma of Business was very satisfying to this day. The most challenging thing was to find enough time to complete the assignments on time and keeping up with work at the same time. I really had to focus hard balancing home life with 3 year old twins, busy work and getting assignments completed. Cox, Jeremy Title: Marketing Manager SPS Division: PWES – Water Solutions Hire Date: 15.10.2002 Location: Somerton Previous 2 Positions: 2008 - Current Marketing Manager SPS 2002 - 2008 Technical Manager- Wang Components What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? Glocer, Rodney 14-44 Leadership module Time involved conducting after hour’s exercises. We were not sure of their requirements so I probably put too much into it. It was not a University course. I probably treated it as such. Also perhaps no follow-up with some ongoing on-line learning to further develop one after having completed the course. Learning is not a once off, but continuous. Current Title: Division: Operations Manager- TES PWES - Environmental Hire Date: 07.05.2001 Location: Milperra Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? 2006 - Current Operations Manager- TES 2001 - 2006 Production Manager Getting the chance to meet and network with other Tyco employees from the different areas of the organisation ranging from finance, production and sales. Finding and digging out all the documentary evidence required for certain components of the course that you were not familiar with! Hazell, Kyle Title: Division: Slurry Valve Lane Manager PV&C - Australia Hire Date: 18.09.2000 Location: Eagle Farm Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? 2010 - Current Slurry Valve Lane Manager 2008 - 2010 Engineered Product Manager Getting to know other the Tyco participants and seeing how the content of the course affected their different roles with-in the organisation. It was instructive to travel to the different plants and see how aspects of the course were implemented. What I found most challenging about the program? Pauling, Kyle 15-44 Fitting in the amount of work required for the assignments around the daily demands of my normal job at the time. Title: Manufacturing Manager Division: PWES – Water Solutions Hire Date: 21.07.1993 Location: Currumbin Previous 2 Positions: 2002 - Current Manufacturing Manager 2001 - 2002 Foundry Manager What I enjoyed most about the program? Meeting participants from other parts of Tyco and learning about their businesses; relating the theory learnt in the program to not only our work environment, but also getting an appreciation for how it can be applied within other businesses. The plant tours were also very beneficial and the Graduation Ceremony was a lot of fun and made all the hard work worthwhile. What I found most challenging about the program? Getting the assignments completed on-time was most challenging. With the best intentions of getting an early start on the assignments, I (as did most of the participants) left them until the last minute and had many a late nights completing them – which was a very vivid and painful reminder of my days at Uni. McBain, Aaron Current Title: Division: Maintenance Supervisor PWES – Water Solutions Hire Date: 04.01.1982 Location: Yennora Previous 2 Positions: 2006 - Current What I enjoyed most about the program? I enjoyed the opportunities to learn and to meet and network with other people throughout Tyco. What I found most challenging about the program? The thing I found most challenging about the program was the assignments, I didn’t start them right away, then it was hard to find the time to catch up. Mendoza, Luis 16-44 Maintenance Supervisor Current Title: Division: Sales Manager PWES - Water Dynamic Hire Date: 02.01.1992 Location: Yarrawonga Previous 2 Positions: 2006 - Current Sales Manager 2000 - 2006 Irrigations Designer/ Sales Manager What I enjoyed most about the program? The most enjoyable part was the relationships developed and the knowledge gained. What I found most challenging about the program? The challenging part was the homework required and finding the time to do it. Moat, Paul Title: Division: Operations Manager PWES – Water Solutions Hire Date: 04.10.2004 Location: Somerton Previous 2 Positions: 2011 - Current Operations Manager 2010 - 2011 Logistics Manager What I enjoyed most about the program? Meeting personnel from other business units and getting an understanding of how other units work. The plant tours during the course were also very interesting. I got to see firsthand Operational initiatives in the manufacturing plants. The course content and delivery was very relevant and interesting. I have referred back to my course notes a few times now to help me deal with work related issues effectively. What I found most challenging about the program? I was forced out of my comfort zone; meeting new people and working in teams. I became more confident to the level that I was volunteering to do the presentations during the workshops. In the end, I got selected to deliver a talk on our experiences through the journey of MDP at the Business of Diploma Award function in Nov 2006. Warsi, Javed 17-44 2006 Future Leaders Participants Current Title: Division: Regional Sales Manager PWES - Water Dynamics Hire Date: 09.011995 Location: Mildura Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? Williams, Peter 19-44 2009 - Current Regional Manager 2002 - 2009 Branch Manager I enjoyed the developing teams section of the course as well as the section on change leadership The OHS section was the most difficult because it was so structured and laborious 2008 MDP PARTICIPANTS 20-44 Title: Division: Project Sales Engineer PV&C - Australia Hire Date: 10.09.2001 Location: Wangara Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? 2012 - Current Project Sales Engineer (TVC) 2006 - 2012 Sales Engineer (TES The opportunity to develop workplace skills that were tailored to the Tyco Organisation & create intercompany relationships with other Tyco employees that I wouldn’t have normally met. Balancing course participation, time to complete assignments & keeping on top of normal workload. Armstrong, David Title: Division: National Operations Manager PWES – Water Solutions Hire Date: 13.03.2006 Location: Currumbin Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? 2011 - Current National Operations Manager 2008 - 2011 Business Development Engineer Meeting and building relationships with other members of the business. I wasn’t in a management role whilst completing the course so it gave me a good foundation and guidance of what my responsibilities as a manager would be in the future. What I found most challenging about the program? Baker, Kane 21-44 Some of the assessments were difficult to complete because I couldn’t provide actual examples as I wasn’t in a management role at the time. Title: Division: Logistics Manager WD Australia PWES - Water Dynamics Hire Date: 15.07.2005 Location: Nowra Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? 2012 - Current Logistics Manager WD Australia 2006 - 2012 Master Data Controller Making contacts with the other candidates and obtaining a more comprehensive view of Tyco. Prioritising the coursework around the day to day workload. Barber, William Title: Division: Sales Manager PV&C - Australia Hire Date: 21.10.2003 Location: Gladstone Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? Bennett, Robert 22-44 2003 - Current Sales Manager MDP helped me to build & motivate a highly successful team. Cultivating a winning culture helps to solidify long term success. Being able to juggle the demands of working & completing MDP in the timeframe. Title: Division: Plant Engineer PWES – Water Solutions Hire Date: 23.08.1999 Location: Wangaratta Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? 1999 - Current Plant Engineer Most enjoyable was getting out and developing an understanding of what others in similar positions were dealing with. Most challenging was holding back my very technical game to play a social one. Brady, Allan Title: Division: Project Sales Director PV&C - China Hire Date: 31.10.1994 Location: Shanghai Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? Finning, Alex 23-44 2011 - Current Project Sales Director 2008 - 2011 Perth Sales Manager The most enjoyable aspect of the MDP program was to interact with others from within the TFC group. This provided a firsthand opportunity to better understand and appreciate everyone's individual business and the way in which they overcome particular obstacles and challenges. Within my group the completion of some of the 'in work' modules were difficult as to obtaining the firsthand experience. For instance the requirement as to quality and OHS differed markedly within the different business units, at that time, as did the actual exposure for such matters for each individual depending on their own particular scope of work Title: Division: Maintenance Project Coordinator PWES – Water Solutions Hire Date: 29.01.1992 Location: Currumbin Previous 2 Positions: 2012 - Current Maintenance Project Coordinator. 2009 - 2012 Electrical Coordinator. What I enjoyed most about the program? The thing I enjoyed most about MDP was the networking and friendships made throughout Tyco. What I found most challenging about the program? The thing I found most challenging about the program was finding the time to juggle assessments and other workloads, while being backstabbed and defamed by the maintenance manager and Plant manager, so as to ensure that the General managers kin could slide into a role that I had worked so hard for. Jenkins, Matthew Title: Division: Finance Manager WD PWES – Water Solutions Hire Date: 05.11.2004 Location: Smithfield Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? Larry, Yohanes 24-44 2010 - Current Finance Manager 2008 - 2010 Business Process Manager The program gives that sense of the company being a large organisation. It gives employees the chance to learn about other businesses and see how it fits together. Sometimes due to the “remote” locations some members of the company don’t even know what’s “out there” and thus it becomes a very motivational program for employees. Juggling between the workload and the program itself. Title: Division: Business Analyst / IT Manager PWES – Water Solutions Hire Date: 23.05.2005 Location: Beresfield Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? 2005 - Current Business Analyst/ IT Manager Networking with Tyco Employees across the country and Asian region Finding quality time to work on the assignments Mills, Paul Title: Division: President Director PWES – Water Solutions Hire Date: 03.10.2005 Location: Indonesia Previous 2 Positions: 2011 - Current President Director 2008 - 2011 Vice President Director What I enjoyed most about the program? I really enjoyed “the Plant Visit”, where I could directly see other Business Units facility. By seeing them, I can bring the good things home and implement them in Tyco Eurapipe Indonesia, such as “5S” and the way they run the production. Overall, I liked the MDP program because I could meet a lot of people from other Business Units where we could share our experience and knowledge. I also met with the Management Team of Tyco. What I found most challenging about the program? The most challenging thing was the assessments. I was the only one from Asia, and some regulation (such as safety regulation) that I learned from MDP are not applicable in Indonesia. However, for the assessment purposes, because my workplace is in Indonesia, I used Indonesian regulation and it was accepted by the lecturer. Nasip, Ismiriati 25-44 Title: Division: Senior Sales representative PV&C - Australia Hire Date: 01.06.1998 Location: Melbourne Previous 2 Positions: 2012 - Current Senior Sales representative 2005 - 2012 National Food Industry Manager What I enjoyed most about the program? I most enjoyed the company and interaction with all participants along with activities promoting teamwork and communication, and the focus on customer service. What I found most challenging about the program? The most challenging aspect of the course was the expectations to instigate the change within, to trust your team and work together, and understand, and know, your business within. Street, Robert Title: Division: Contracts Manager PWES - Water Solutions Hire Date: 24.03.1986 Location: Carole Park Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? Tucker, Kevin 26-44 2002 - Current Contracts Manager 1995 - 2002 Contracts Coordinator What I found enjoyable during the MDP program was meeting and working with people from all divisions of Tyco and the opportunity to visit the various Tyco facilities that were accessible to the course locations. The challenging part for me was organising the time away from work at the courses and fitting in the assignments with an already busy work schedule. 2010 MDP PARTICIPANTS 27-44 Title: Division: Operations Manager PWES - Pumping Hire Date: 11.05.2009 Location: Wangara Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? 2009 - Current Operations Manager The opportunity to meet with other Tyco employees and learn from them their experiences within our business. I also enjoyed the formal aspect of the practical training we received, putting this into practice and seeing the results. Accepting and learning who we are as people through the 360 degree feedback process. Also balancing work commitments with the submission needs for the program. Cuss, Bradley Title: Division: Production Manager FPS PV&C - Australia Hire Date: 08.03.2007 Location: Wetherill Park Previous 2 Positions: 2010 - Current Production Manager FPS 2007 - 2010 Int Sales Supervisor - FPS What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? Downie, Bernard 28-44 Getting out of the office, learning new skills and looking at other Tyco’s other manufacturing facilities Keeping up with your day to day work while away, homework was a challenge not been in school for 20 years and I did do some good projects that are still been used Title: Division: IT Infrastructure & Service Delivery Manager PWES - Corporate Hire Date: 14.09.2001 Location: Nowra Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? 2005 - Current IT Service Delivery Manager Meeting new people in Tyco and strengthening existing networks. Also learning new skills out of my normal scope of work. Making the time to attend and also meet the deadlines on the assessments. Evans, Haydn Title: Division: Global Product Manager PV&C - Australia Hire Date: 18.02.2008 Location: Eagle Farm Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? Gordon, Michael 29-44 2010 - Current Global Product Manager 2008 - 2010 Business Manager The opportunity to improve myself and take these learnings back to my workplace and also meeting others within the Tyco organisation. Balancing work, study and home life during that period. Title: Division: Manager PWES - Water Infrastructure Group Hire Date: 04.03.2002 Location: Mt Wellington Previous 2 Positions: 2008 - Current Manager (WI Group) 2004 - 2008 National Projects Manager (Tyco Water) What I enjoyed most about the program? I enjoyed the group discussions with Tyco colleagues and the relativeness of the content to my position. Listening to the views and feedback from people from various parts of our business really helped me with the understanding of the course and their roles within our business. I also enjoyed the networking aspect and relationships that have been developed with the team. What I found most challenging about in the program? The assignments were the most challenging aspect. As there was uncertainty with the amount of material we were to provide with each project, I felt obliged to provide a lot of detail that may not have been necessary. These assignments involved a lot of my personnel time and on top of my usual workload made time management challenging – it was all worth it though. Griffith, Aynsley Title: Division: Senior Product Dev. Engineer PWES – Water Solutions Hire Date: 28.11.1988 Location: Currumbin Previous 2 Positions: 2012 - Current Senior Product Dev Engineer 2011 - 2012 Product Manager – Valves What I enjoyed most about the program? Being exposed to a larger network of Tyco people and businesses and being able to share experiences within the group. The knowledge gained from this environment was priceless. What I found most challenging about the program? Finding the time to get through my day to day life as well as undertake the extra work to get through the program, which ultimately was worth the time and energy Hall, Jason 30-44 Title: Division: Product Engineer PV&C - Australia Hire Date: 04.12.2007 Location: Eagle Farm Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? 2007 - Current Product Engineer The most enjoyable facet of the program was the interaction with and camaraderie developed between the different Tyco businesses that would not usually interact. We were able to gain an insight into how the other businesses operated and things that did and didn’t work for them. In my position at the time it was often challenging to relate the examples and cases discussed with the program into real life work situations. Hirsch, Sheldon Title: Division: Design Manager PWES - Water Infrastructure Group Hire Date: 01.10.2008 Location: Athol Park Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? Hughes, Adam 31-44 2011 - Current Design Manager 2008 - 2010 Project Manager Meeting other people within the Tyco Group and seeing how other divisions work and interact. The additional work load. Title: Division: Regional Marketing Manager QLD PWES – Water Solutions Hire Date: 22.10.2007 Location: Carole Park Previous 2 Positions: 2007 - Current Regional Marketing Manager QLD What I enjoyed most about the program? The most enjoyable part of the MDP was getting together with colleagues from across Tyco Flow Control. We learned from each other in interactive sessions that provided many interesting and entertaining experiences. The course content covered many aspects of my working environment, however it was working with colleagues from across the business that provided the best insight into the relevance of course work in broader terms. What I found most challenging about the program? Completing assignments between the workshops was quite challenging. I do not have any direct reports which made it difficult to assist with completing some of the assessment tasks. However, I found that the skills acquired in this course have been very useful for working in team environments that I am regularly involved in. Kennedy, Gregory Title: Division: Risk Engineer PWES - Water Infrastructure Group Hire Date: 15.06.2009 Location: Chatswood Previous 2 Positions: What I enjoyed most about the program? What I found most challenging about the program? Martinez, Moyra 32-44 2009 - Current Risk Engineer The MDP program provided me with information that was very relevant to my position. I enjoyed the class group and dinners with our managers. The schedule of the classes through the day is very intense. This is because there is no real break between lectures; and after the long day of classes/workshops we had to rush to dinner.
