Haul your bulls home on sale day and receive a $100/head discount. We would be glad
to take the bulls home and feed them if you prefer. All bulls taken home are at the buyers
risk for injury or death and we strongly suggest that you purchase insurance on your
bulls. Insurance will be available sale day. We will provide free keep until April 1st at
which time we will begin charging $1.50/day. We will fertility test the bulls for you prior
to delivery for a reasonable cost and will deliver the bulls free within North Dakota and
nearby points in Minnesota and will work with everyone else to deliver bulls at the most
reasonable cost possible.

Welcome to the
We are proud to be hosting our nineteenth annual sale. We are looking forward to once again providing the genetics that will move our customers forward and keep their operations profitable. As we prepare for this sale, the most
notable issue is that the cattle market has undergone a downturn to prices significantly lower than what we saw a year ago. Many believe that the market correction has been overdone because we did not suddenly add millions of head
of cattle to the national inventory. In any event, in the face of a downturn, it can
be said that it is more important than ever to invest in quality genetics that will
provide the maximum level of performance and production.
We continue to be excited and pleased with the tremendous progress that is
ongoing in the Simmental breed. There is no question that the Simmental
breed is the place to be if you are a cattle producer who wants to move your
program forward quickly. It can be argued that in the last couple of decades,
the Simmental breed has made more positive progress on the genetics of our
cattle than any other breed.
We would also like to take the opportunity of this letter to make a major
announcement. Last fall we completed a transaction to sell the mature cow
herd in its entirety to Heartland Simmentals, Nashua, Iowa. Tom and Kirk
Lynch and their families are wonderful people and great Simmental breeders.
They purchased all of our 2 to 12 year old cows and their transfer to Iowa took
place in November of 2015 and January of 2016. We congratulate the Lynch
family on this acquisition and we are honored to have such accomplished
Simmental breeders take what we have built and continue with our genetics
into the future. We wish them well and know that they will accomplish much
more with our herd.
We appreciate the opportunity to work with our longtime friends, the Bata
families, in bringing you this quality offering of Simmental seedstock. Thank
you for attending our sale.
We have purchased the highest performance bulls available in the US and Canada. By
doing so, we have produced one of the highest performance cow herds in the Simmental
breed. Many are four generations of high performance and are ranked in the top 1% of
the breed for weaning and yearling EPD’s. Check the footnotes on this year’s offering
and read about cows we are proud of.
We would like to thank Brent Kuss and his family for their commitment to our
embryo program. They do a super job and are fun to work with. Thank You!
Our family has grown to eight grand kids, with Mark and Christina adding another “Bata
Brother,” and Joey and Carla a precious little girl. We had a pretty wild house for the
holidays and grandpa gets lots of help “feeding the cows.” Our grandson, Hudson, had
a great year with no health issues. We are very thankful!
Yes, the fall was spent watching Bison football, we’re pretty proud of their 5th
National Championship.
It is with regrets that the Olafsons will be having their last year of raising Simmentals
. Next year will mark our 20th sale and their last year to be working with us. We have
always enjoyed working together and sharing thoughts on breeding better cattle. We
wish them the best of luck.

back to their best cow families. Ringman continues to put it all together as a moderate calver with big
time growth. The bulls are extra thick and very well put together and the females are definite standouts
in the heifer pen as well. Several outstanding breds sell in the sale. His sons topped last year’s sale.

Homo Polled, Homo Black. Purchased from Robb Farms, SK. He is a total outcross to our black program with great EPD’s and big weaning (867) and yearling (1544) performance. He is moderate
framed with incredibly perfect feet and legs. What a job he has done in his first calf crop! He calves
very easy and are vigorous at birth. When fall came his calves really pushed down on the scale. They
are clean fronted while being thick made with an extra big, deep middle. If I could give him an API
it would be off the charts! Semen available from Bata Bros.
Homo Polled, Non-Dilutor. Purchased as the high seller of the 2013 Rydeen Farms sale. He had a
weaning ratio of 116 and yearling 117. With an actual weight at 10 months of 1295 and 42 cm scrotal. He is a total performance powerhouse. Lot 25 shattered our adj. WW record at 959! His calves
are dark red, easy fleshing, and have a little more frame. He ranks in the top 1% for WW, YW, and

Homo Polled, Non-Dilutor from 2 black parents. Purchased from Rancier Farms, AB. He is a total outcross calving ease bull that we have exposed to all the Bata and Olafson red heifers with great success. His calves are extra clean fronted and smooth shouldered with small heads. When you get

“Mr. J” is now deceased. He was co-owned with Bata’s and has been used extensively in both of our
herds. His individual performance is exceptional. He weighed 1320 lbs. at 10 months of age and
posted an adjusted yearling weight of 1584 lbs. His progeny are thick and stout and packed full of
muscle and growth. He is Homozygous Polled and Homozygous black.
OLF Otis Y43 was our high selling bull in 2012, selling for $11,000 for 2/3rds interest and full possession
to Bar L 7 Simmentals, Calgary, Alberta. He is now in the bull battery at Bouchard Livestock
International. He is in the top 1% of the breed for calving ease, yearling weight, ADG, maternal weaning
weight and TI. He is in the top 2% for birth weight and weaning weight His sire, OLF Odin U5, was our
high selling bull in our 2009 sale, selling for $15,000 to Bouchard Livestock. He is Homozygous Polled
and Heterozygous Black.

We bought the Game Face bull in the 2014 Heartland Simmentals “Performance With Class” bull
sale, and he was the high selling yearling bull. He is a complete outcross pedigree for us and posted
some impressive performance numbers. He had a 73 lb. birth weight, and posted a 5.49 ADG and a
1434 yearling weight. His progeny have excellent performance. He is co-owned with Batas. He is
Homozygous Polled and Heterozygous Black.
We purchased True Grit for a calving ease sire for use on heifers, and he has certainly done a
tremendous job in that regard. He is in the top 1% of the breed in calving ease, birth weight, API &
TI. A True Grit son from Batas was the top selling bull in our 2015, selling for $35,000 to Hart
Simmentals, Frederick, SD. He is co-owned with Batas. True Grit is Homozygous Black and
Homozygous Polled.

Beefmaker came from the Doll Ranch herd and he has certainly lived up to his name. We have used
him extensively both as an AI sire and for clean-up on part of our cow herd. The progeny have a lot
of eye appeal and great depth and natural thickness. Many sons and daughters sell in our 2016 sale.
He is Homozygous Polled and Heterozygous Black.
Free Time was selected from the 2015 Nelson Livestock Company sale. He was purchased for use
on first calf heifers and we are confident that he will provide the calving ease we were seeking. He
is co-owned with Batas. He has been tested Homozygous Polled and Heterozygous Black.

Homo Polled. Homo Black. A feature performance bull that is a great example of our goal to provide the beef industry with the highest growth cattle in the Simmental breed. He had a 113 weaning ratio and has EPDs are
in the top 1% of the breed for weaning wt.- yearling wt.- ADG- maternal WWT.- and carcass wt. His performance is bred in his pedigree, as his dam has a 106.2 weaning EPD and a 175.3 yearling EPD. She ranks #2 for
weaning EPD and #1 for yearling EPD of ALL active Simmental cows! She was 1/41-index 123 @ weaning and 1/31-index 122 @ yearling. C11 weighed 1002# on 10-26-15 when weaned off the cow and it’s her first calf!
Not many first calvers can do that. The grand-dam ranks in the top 1% of the breed in 5 growth traits 2% for milk. She has a 112 weaning wt. index and a 113 yearling wt. index on 5 calves. He should be a cow maker,
as he has the highest MWW I have seen. The dam and grand-dam will both enter into our flush program. Last year U71 produced the great growth bull, lot 4, purchased by Kory Jorgenson, Rugby, N.D. Actual weight on
1/8/16 was 1400! Ranks #1 Adj. YW at 1800 to ratio 126. #2 ADG ratio 140. #2 WDA. Adj. SC 41.3.

Homo Polled. Homo Black. At a 929# adj. weaning wt. he ranked 3/36 to ratio 111 yet had a 92#
birth wt. to index 106. We purchased Wall Street for his ability to lower our birth wt. on large cows
and do it consistently, yet maintain high performance. This son is a great example of his abilities.
His dam was purchased from McMillen Ranching, Sask., to add outcross pedigree to our program.
She has many of their top bloodlines in her pedigree. He is a full out-cross to U.S. cattle. You’ll
drive a lot of miles to find one this good in Canada, He’s right here in the U.S. Adj. SC 40.1.

Homo Polled. Homo Black. This cross between Renegade and Top Cut always produces high
growth. Remember the calving ease EPD number is for use on heifers, all our performance bulls
are for use on mature cows. A 105# birth wt. is average for our cows and especially when they are
born longer bodied. A full sister to C49 was our top heifer in 2014. She had a 123 wean index and
a 121 yearling index. Another example of how our performance is bred into our herd and the predictability we have created. W104 went into our flush program this year as she has 5 EPD growth
traits in the top 1% of the breed. 42 cm on 1/8/16. Ranks #6 Adj. YW and #5 WDA. Adj. SC 46.1.

of True Grit on a Mr. J cow that produced our high selling bull to Hart Farms, S.D., for $35,000 and later

the 6th bull over 900# @ weaning. A similar cow pedigree to our high selling bull last year and Lot 1 bull
this year. They all go back to the performance TNT K125 cow that produced 32 calves for us. C19 has a balanced set of EPDs and ranks in the top 1% for weaning, yearling, and ADG. Adj. SC 40.4.

Olafson Herd Health Comments
Bred heifers were calfhood bangs vaccinated and pre-breeding vaccinated with
Anthrax, Vision 7, and Vista 5 VL5 SQ. They have been given rumen magnets.
They have had two shots of Guardian scours vaccine, Safeguard oral de-wormer
and Ultra Boss pour on for external parasite control. Bulls were spring vaccinated with
Vista Once SQ, and fall vaccinated with Vision 7 w/Somnus, Bovi-Shield Gold
One Shot and de-wormed with Safeguard. They were given a booster Somnus
vaccination and fall treated with Ivomec, and treated in January with Eprinex.
All of the Olafson cattle herd tested negative for BVD PI in 2015 and the
Olafson herd has always tested negative for Johne’s and has maintained
a Level III status for several years.
Solid black. The Game Face progeny have excellent growth and this calf is no exception, posting the 2nd

Bata and Olafson Heifer Health Comments
Both herds have been tested for nine years in the North Dakota
Voluntary Johne’s Herd Status Program and have reached a status of
Level 3. All animals sampled have tested negative. Heifers were calfhood bangs vaccinated and vaccinated pre-breeding with Bovi Shield
Gold FP VL5, Anthrax, Foot Rot Vaccine and Vision 7 w/Somnus. They
were ultrasound pregnancy tested on August 8th, with re-checks done
on October 9th, by Dr. Ben Stegman, DVM. They are guaranteed bred to
the sire listed in the footnotes unless otherwise noted from the auction
block. Heifers from both herds received late fall deworming and lice
control treatment, and were given rumen magnets, and will receive two

– ASA Suggested Sale Terms and Conditions –
BIDDING AND APPLICABLE LAW: All cattle listed in this offering comply with prevailing sale terms and
conditions as set forth by the laws of the state wherein the sale is conducted. There are no warranties,
expressed or implied, by either the auctioneer or consignor, except as set forth herein, as to the merchantability of fitness for any particular purpose of any animal offered in this sale. The right to bid or the
right to reject the final bid, if done before the hammer falls, is reserved for all sellers unless otherwise
announced from the sale block or as prohibited by law in the state wherein the sale is being conducted.
EMBRYO TRANSFER:
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Any change of information other than in the catalog will be announced from the auction block and such announcements shall take precedence over printed material. All statements made
from the auction block or those made by the seller (in private treaty), must be documented by seller if
requested by the buyer at time of sale.
1. HORNED — An animal with a horn growth affixed to the skull that has or has not been removed.
TERMS: Terms of sale are cash unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made with the seller
previous to the sale of any animal so affected.
3. POLLED — An animal with absence of horn growth. (An animal can have scurs and still be
genetically polled.)
PURCHASER’S RISK: Each animal becomes the property of and therefore is also the risk of the purchaser as soon as it is sold; except it shall be the obligation of the seller to see that animals are fed and cared
for free of charge to purchaser, until loaded for shipment or until the expiration of twenty-four (24) hours
after the sale, whichever occurs first.
4. SMOOTH POLLED — A smooth-polled individual has no scurs and does not develop scurs later in life.
HEALTH REQUIREMENTS:
1. All cattle entered for sale must meet the health regulations of the state in which they are sold. All other agreements regarding the health of the animal will be between the buyer and seller and should be documented in writing.
2. If sale cattle are returned to the seller for an adjustment, they must meet the health requirements of the
state they are returned to.
CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: Each animal, which is catalogued, offered and sold as a registered animal,
shall have a certificate of registry available at time of sale. When an animal is sold as “eligible for registry”
or “registry applied for”, the seller shall be responsible for obtaining the certificate of registry and for the
proper transfer of the certificate to the purchaser including full payment of transfer fees.
IDENTIFICATION: Each animal, at time of sale, must have a readable tattoo or brand corresponding to
that shown on the certificate of registration.
AUTHENTICITY OF PEDIGREE: When an animal, through parental validation, is determined to have an
ancestry other than that reported on the registration certificate, the buyer shall be entitled to a refund of
the purchase price from the seller upon return of the animal to the farm of the seller at the seller’s
expense. The animal in question, at the buyer’s option, may be exchanged for another animal of equal
value, or if agreeable with the buyer, the seller may have the certificate returned to the buyer. Any adjustment provided herein, if selected, shall absolve the seller from further liability for authenticity of pedigree
to the buyer.
BREEDING GUARANTEES AND DEFINITIONS:
1. Females are guaranteed to be breeders, with the exception of:
a) Female calves sold at side of dam
b) Injury or disease occurring to the animal after time of sale
c) Gross negligence or willful misconduct on the part of the purchaser
d) Females used in ovum transplant after time of sale
e) Cows sold with calf at side or a female that calves after sale to breeding prior to the date of sale
2. Bulls are guaranteed to be breeders (definition as the ability to settle healthy cows by the time the bull
is 18 months of age) with the exception of:
a) Bull calves sold at side of dam
b) Injury or disease occurring to the animal after time of sale
c) Gross negligence or willful misconduct on the part of the purchaser
d) Bulls shown competitively after sale
3. Any guarantees with respect to the ability to freeze semen shall be made by separate agreement
between buyer and seller.
4. Safe in calf females are females that have been diagnosed pregnant by a competent veterinarian, and
are pregnant at time of sale.
5. A bred female is a female known to have been served by a bull either by natural breeding or artificial
insemination, but it does not necessarily mean that the female is safe in calf to that service.
6. A pasture-bred female is a female that has been pastured with a designated bull and has been exposed
for the time stated, but it does not necessarily mean that this female is safe in calf to that bull.
7. An open female is a non-pregnant animal.
8. Calves sold off their dams (split pairs) shall carry the full breeding guarantee.
PRIVILEGE OF PURCHASER TO EXAMINE: The purchaser of a female animal may have her examined
within twenty-four (24) hours after the fall of the hammer and prior to removal from sale premises. The
pregnancy status of breeding status of a female so examined, when found not to be as represented at the
time of sale, is cause for the female to be returned to the seller as unsold.
1. Sellers should provide upon request a complete history of embryo transfer activity for any female offered for sale.
2. Withholding information on the existence of frozen embryos at the time of sale would be considered an
unethical practice.
HORNED-SCURRED-POLLED DEFINITIONS:
2. POLLED/SCURRED — An animal with rudimentary horn growth that will not develop into a horn.
The rudimentary horn growth may or may not become affixed to the skull at an older age.
GUARANTEES:
1. If an animal is sold as polled or polled/scurred and proves to be horned, the seller shall be obligated
to refund the purchase price upon return of the animal to the farm of the seller at the expense of the seller
or may be exchanged for a polled animal of equal value whichever is acceptable to the buyer. The buyer
has thirty (30) days from date of sale to notify the seller that an adjustment is in order.
2. If an animal is sold as smooth-polled and proves to be scurred, the seller shall be obligated to refund
the price upon return of the animal to the farm of the seller at the expense of the seller or at the buyer’s
option shall be exchanged for a smooth-polled animal of equal value.
3. If an animal is sold as polled and develops scurs, the seller will not be obligated to make any adjustment as a scurred animal is considered polled.
4. If an animal is sold as polled and has scurs, it shall be so announced at the time of sale that the animal
has scurs. If it is not announced and the buyer finds before the animal leaves the sale premises that the
animal has scurs, the buyer must notify the seller of the findings. The seller shall then be obligated to
refund the purchase price.
OPTIONS AND PRIVILEGES OF RETURN OR ADJUSTMENT:
The following adjustments do not preclude the right of the buyer and seller to mutually agree upon other
terms and conditions for settlement of any dispute.
1. All claims for adjustment or refund must be made in writing either six (6) months from the date of
sale or no later than when the animal reaches 24 months of age whichever occurs later, with the exception
of claims involving misrepresentation of service sire or as otherwise provided herein.
2. In the event an animal is claimed to be a non-breeder, the animal may be returned to the farm of the
seller, at the buyer’s expense, if in good physical condition, and the return is in compliance with the health
requirements of the seller’s state. The seller shall be entitled to a six (6) month trial period following the
return of the animal in which to prove the animal is a breeder. If at the end of six (6) months the seller is
unable to prove the animal is a breeder, the seller shall, at the option of buyer, replace the animal with
another equal value or refund the purchase price. Either option shall be deemed full satisfaction and settlement.
3. If a female is sold as “safe in calf” to a given sire or sires on a specified date or dates and proves not
to be as represented, the buyer is entitled to a refund of the purchase price from the seller upon return of
the animal and resulting progeny thereof to the farm of the seller at the seller’s expense.
4. If a female is sold as “open” and proves to be with calf at time of sale and examined pregnant within
sixty (60) days after sale, the buyer may return the animal to the farm of the seller prior to calving for a
refund of the full purchase price or for another animal of equal value, whichever acceptable to the buyer.
It shall be the obligation of the seller to bear any expenses incurred for transportation of the animal in
question to the farm of the seller.
GENETIC TESTING AND TraitTrac STATUS: Sellers must identify the TraitTrac status and the results of
any qualitative genetic testing performed on any animals or genetic material offered for sale. The ASA considers it an unethical practice to misrepresent or fail to disclose the TraitTrac status or qualitative genetic
test results of any animal or genetic material.
DISCLOSURE OF MATERIAL INFORMATION: Sellers must disclose all material information concerning
any animal or genetic material offered for sale. For the purposes of these Sale Terms and Conditions,
“Material Information” is defined as any information which would be likely to affect the value of the animal
or genetic material if the information were known to the public. Material Information includes, but is not
limited to, information related to genetic tests, blood tests, ultrasound pregnancy results, disease tests,
pregnancy and fertility test results, information related to the sex and age of in utero calves or embryos,
and information related to the fertilization status of in utero calves, including whether the calf was conceived via artificial insemination or natural service. The ASA considers it an unethical practice to misrepresent or fail to disclose any Material Information concerning an animal or genetic material offered for sale.
LIMITATIONS OF OBLIGATIONS: These sale terms and conditions constitute a binding legal obligation
between the buyer and seller of any animal or genetic material sold under these terms and conditions.
However, the ASA, its directors, officers, employees and agents do not assume any obligation, legal or otherwise, to enforce the sale terms and conditions agreed to between buyer and seller.
