In order to comply with the new marking requirements described in the European norms it is necessary for you to adhere to the following instructions for best performance. The MS5001 has been specifically designed for marking GATES ferrules and fittings which are used constantly in today's industry, agriculture and public works. This user guide contains all information concerning the operation, use and maintenance of your MS5001. 2.2 - WORKING PRINCIPLE: This machine enables you to mark the complete range of GATES ferrules and fittings from 1/4" to 2". The marking is made by the rolling of the ferrule or the fitting under one of the two rows of 16 characters on which a pressure is applied through a pressure wheel. 2.3 - DESCRIPTION OF THE MACHINE: This machine is comprised of (see figure 1) : - a base (1) on which a support column (2) is fixed - a counter (3) - a coupling carriage (4) on which are fixed : . two rollers (5) . a rack (6) - a lever (7) on which a toothed wheel is fixed - a character carrier holder (8) on which can be found : . the removable character carrier (9) . the character carrier release knob(10) . the clamp (11) - a raise/lower wheel (12) 4 USER GUIDE – MS5001 12 3 8 11 10 9 / 9A 2 5 7 1 4 6 Figure 1 – Description of the marking machine 5 USER GUIDE - MS5001 2.4 - CHARACTERISTICS: Total weight : 32 Kg Dimensions : 390 x 355 x 540 External dimensions of the characters : 6 x 3 x 19 Passage diameter : from 18 to 135 mm Marking : 2 x 14 characters (two rows of 7) Characters : removable, tightening through screws Changing of the characters : 1 character carrier fixed by quick release knob Marking depth: adjustment of the marking pressure through a wheel Option : 1 row x 10 fixed characters and 3 rotating numbers These specifications are nominal and must not be used for inspection. 3 - INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE 3.1 - INSTALLATION: The machine should be placed on a bench. It is possible to fix it to the bench through four holes on the base intended for this purpose. 3.2 - USE: The new marking requirements described in the European Norms define a marking with at least the following information : - variable reference - assembly manufacturer's logo - the date code of the hose assembly (day/month/ year). - Place the characters into the character carrier. Two screws enable you to tighten the characters in the slot. Note: The use of a mirror may help to ensure the characters are assembled correctly. - Slide the fixed character carrier (9) into position. Tighten the knob (10) . - Place a ferrule or a fitting between both rollers (5). Check that the part receiving the ferrule's insert or the end of the fitting is placed towards the operator (towards the lever), the coupling carriage (4) being in the middle of its stroke. 6 USER GUIDE - MS5001 - Bring the characters near to the ferrule or the fitting as you lower the character carrier holder (9) down using the raise/lower wheel (12) to bring the characters into contact with the ferrule or the fitting. - Using the lever (7) move the coupling carriage (4) either to the right or left. - Check the counter (3) - Apply the marking pressure by turning the raise/lower wheel (12) clockwise to deduct 1.5 from the counter (3) reading. Tighten the clamp (11). - Turn the lever (7) from left to right or from right to left according to the initial position of the coupling carriage (4) to mark the ferrule or the fitting. NOTE To unlock the character carrier holder (8), unscrew the clamp (11). 4 - MAINTENANCE 4.1 - MAINTENANCE: Periodically oil the teeth of the support column (2) and all the moving parts of the machine. This operation must be carried out every two months. NOTE : Do not oil the smooth part of the support column (2) so as not to reduce the effect of the clamp (11). 7 USER GUIDE - MS5001 4.2 - SPARE PARTS: Note: Tampering with the machine during the warranty period will render the latter void. The user may carry out repairs himself (after expiry of warranty period). To this end Figure 2 will help you to locate and order the required spare parts. All orders for spare parts must state reference, description and quantity required.
