Course Description This presentation will introduce participants to the lumber grading system. Participants will learn what the grading rules allow and don't allow, including the differences between appearance grade wood vs. structurally graded wood. Learning Objectives At the end of the this course, participants will be able to: 1. Participants will learn the structure of the North American Grading systems and associations work (ALSC, CLSAB, CWC, NLGA) Participants will learn how the monitoring system works in Alberta (AFPA quality control 2. Participants will also learn how lumber is graded and the appropriate uses of the different grades 3. Samples of lumber will also be brought in to illustrate the different grades of lumber and participants will be invited to grade the lumber themselves. 4. Appropriate uses for pine that has been killed by the Mountain Pine Beetles will be discussed and how we can best utilize our resources.
