Congratulations to Barry Emens, the newest member of
the Inspira Foundation Cumberland/Salem Board of
Directors! Barry has a distinguished career in health care
financing and banking, and is a Certified Medical
Practice Executive candidate.
His experience as a Senior Health Care Banker at The
PNC Financial Group and years of advising large
medical practices in the region will enhance the Inspira
Foundation’s efforts to improve health care throughout
the region.

over $300,000!
Beyond fundraising, Inspira Auxiliary volunteers
make a fantastic contribution to the Foundation.
They are a group of dedicated and passionate
individuals who are serious about making their
community a better place in which to live. Auxiliary
members share their ideas, time and energy to help
the Inspira Foundation provide the renewable
financial resources necessary for Inspira Health
Network to deliver quality health care to our region.
The key to the Foundation's success rests in people
like the members of the Inspira Auxiliaries who
embody the spirit of generosity by saying, "Yes I

Inspira Medical Center Vineland recently received
approval from the New Jersey Department of Health to
perform emergency angioplasty, also known as emergency
PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention). The hospital's
emergency department and cardiac catheterization
laboratory physicians and staff have already begun using
the life-saving emergency procedure for heart attack
patients.
“The ability for us to perform emergency PCI right here in
Vineland will significantly speed up treatment for those in
the community who are having a heart attack,” said
Andrew Zinn, M.D., Medical Director of Interventional
Cardiology at Inspira Medical Center Vineland. “The
approval builds on our medical center's 2011 accreditation
as a Chest Pain Center. Together with local EMS, Inspira
paramedics and the hospital's dedicated emergency
department staff, our experienced physicians and cardiac
catheterization lab staff will be able to save more patients'
heart muscle and ultimately, save more lives.”
Inspira Medical Center Vineland, along with its team of
experienced cardiologists, has been performing diagnostic
cardiac catheterization since 2004. In order to perform
emergency PCI, a physician must have performed a
minimum of 75 such procedures during the previous year.
Inspira Medical Center Vineland currently has six
board-certified cardiologists on staff who are state
approved to perform the emergency PCI procedure.
Emergency PCI is an effective intervention to open
clogged arteries and restore blood flow to the heart for
patients having a STEMI (segment elevation myocardial
infarction) heart attack. Only 25 percent of hospitals in the
United States offer emergency PCI services.

In December, two trees illuminated by hundreds of lights
shone brightly through the holidays in memory of loved ones
lost. Area residents in Elmer and Bridgeton joined Inspira
Home Care and Hospice for its 2013 Tree of Lights
ceremonies.
The Tree of Lights ceremonies have been a tradition for the
bereaved for more than 20 years. In memory of their loved
ones, attendees donate $10 to place a light on the tree. The
funds are used to support Inspira Home Care and Hospice's
bereavement programs.
Following the dedication ceremony and lighting of the trees,
the names of those being remembered were read by hospice
staff and volunteers. Some participants brought memory
pages to be placed in a special memory book that is kept
throughout the year in Elmer and Bridgeton.
On December 10, 2013, members of the Sterling Society
gathered together at The Chester B. Kaletkowski Graduate
Medical Education Center for a private presentation on
Inspira’s “A Higher Level of Care.”
Dr. Kush Sachdeva, Medical Director of Research at the
Frank and Edith Scarpa Regional Cancer Pavilion, and
Melanie Pirollo, Administrative Director of Oncology
Services, delivered a presentation outlining the most prevalent
cancers in South Jersey and the most prescribed treatments.
“When somebody has lost a loved
one, the holidays are a most
poignant time to feel that
absence," said Linda Kandle,
Bereavement Coordinator for
Inspira Health Network Home
Care and Hospice. "Traditions
have to change with the passing
of a loved one. Having the Tree
of Lights gives people a new
tradition to help them through
the loss.”
The Sterling Society is a special donor
recognition program that honors and
recognizes the importance of those who
make substantial and consistent gifts to the
Inspira Foundation Cumberland/Salem
that become part of the endowment fund to
sustain the financial needs of the Inspira
Health Network. Sterling Society members
are entitled to exclusive benefits including
invitations to the annual reception, access
to Inspira Foundation Cumberland/Salem
events and much more.

It’s been 10 years since the Inspira Health Network Auxiliary
Cumberland County was formed, and during that time the Auxiliary has
raised more than $300,000 for the Inspira Health Network Foundation
Cumberland/Salem and its mission to provide renewable financial
resources for the delivery of quality health care to our region.
On January 15, a recognition and celebration event was held at the
Greenview Inn in Vineland, where the officers of the Inspira Auxiliary
Cumberland County presented a check for $35,000 to Carolyn
Heckman, Executive Director of Inspira Foundation Cumberland/Salem
and John DiAngelo, President and CEO of Inspira Health Network.
Currently, the organization is led by the 2014 Executive Board: Robert
Odorizzi, President; Connie Montero, Vice President; Donna Baruffi,
Secretary; Stacy Fisher, Treasurer.
Over the past decade, Inspira Auxiliary Cumberland County members
have raised over $300,000 in their quest to support the mission of the
Inspira Foundation Cumberland/Salem. Some of the dollars raised Have
been earmarked to support the following: Frank and Edith Scarpa
Regional Cancer Pavilion, Deborah F. Sager Neonatal Intensive Care
Unit, Pediatric Emergency Room, Stereotactic Mammography Room,
Third Floor Med Surgery Waiting Room, Sterling Society and Colors of
Hope. The remainder of the funds are given annually to help build the
endowment of the Inspira Foundation.
