1. MANUAL OVERVIEW
This manual describes how to upgrade XDCAM™ firmware from version
1.0x to version 1.1 using the web browser.
The following models are applicable:
PDW-510
PDW-510P
PDW-530
PDW-530P
PDW-1500
PDW-V1
CAUTION: This manual applies to SY1 firmware being upgraded from
the following versions only:
V1.020
V1.060
V1.080
If you are upgrading from an interim beta version (V1.1b1 or V1.1b2),
you must downgrade to V1.0x first before you upgrade to V1.1.

3. SET NETWORK CONFIGURATION
To upgrade firmware, network settings must be as follows:

The above settings are factory defaults. If you need to change your
settings to the factory defaults, perform as follows, depending on your
model.

To change network settings:
1. Press the MENU button.
2. While pressing and holding the COUNTER SELECT button, press
the SET button to display the Maintenance menu.

3-2-1. Install CKB-NC01 Network Adaptor
Installing the CKB-NC01 network adaptor may cause the Version
Upgrade menu to be inaccessible if the HN-295 and DCP-36 boards
touch. Therefore, add tape to the HN-295 board first as a preventive
measure.
1. Affix UL tape to the HN-295 board as follows:
a. Open the inside panel.
b. Remove the DCP-36 board.
c. Affix UL tape (approximately 10 mm × 40 mm) to the HN-295
board as shown in Figure 1.
NOTE: You do not need to remove the HN-295 board.
d. Reinstall the DCP-36 board and the inside panel.

2. Loosen the four screws (+B2.6 × 10), and remove the WRR cover
assembly from the camcorder. (See Figure 2.)

3. Remove the WRR mounting bracket assembly from the slot of the
camcorder. (See Figure 3.)
NOTE: Press the assembly towards the rear.

4. Insert CBK-NC01 into the slot so that the network connector faces
the inside of the camcorder. (See Figure 4.)
NOTE: As you insert the CBK-NC01, make sure that the harnesses
inside the camcorder do not get caught or damaged.

5. Confirm that the CBK-NC01 connector is inserted firmly into the
80-pin connector at the bottom of the slot.
6. Tighten the screws (+B2.6 x 10) on the cover assembly.
NOTE: To tighten the screws, push the network adaptor towards
the back of the camcorder while pressing the adaptor towards the
front of the camcorder.
3-2-2. Change Network Settings
NOTE: Change network settings only from the MENU and not from the
web browser. When the V1.1 upgrade is complete, settings can be
changed from the web.
To change network settings:
1. Set the MENU ON/OFF switch to ON to display the TOP menu.
2. Rotate the MENU knob until
press the MENU knob.

3-3. Start Network Connection
To start the network connection, insert the network cable into the
network connector.
NOTE:

•
The connection starts as soon as the cable is inserted. (This is
common to all models.)
•
Make sure the connector latch faces the right direction.
•
If a network hub is not used, but the host PC is connected directly
to XDCAM™ equipment, use a cross-cable.
•
To remove the network cable, press and hold the connector latch.

4. SAVE MENU SETTINGS
4-1. PDW-1500/V1 Only
If menu settings are saved to BANK before starting the upgrade, the
settings can be restored from BANK after the unit is upgraded to V1.1.
To save menu settings to BANK:
1. Turn the unit ON.
2. Press the MENU button, and rotate the JOG dial to select
B11:SAVE SETUP BANK-1.
3. While pressing the SHUTTLE button, rotate the JOG dial to change
the value to ON.
Push SET!! appears on the front panel.
4. Press the SET button. Menu settings are saved in BANK-1.
NOTE:

A maximum of three sets of menu settings can be saved. To save
menu settings to BANK-2 and BANK-3, perform steps 1 through 3,
then press SET to BANK-2 or BANK-3.
•
When menu settings are saved to BANK, network settings are not
included and not saved.

5. UPGRADE PROCEDURE
5-1. System Requirements
•
Windows 2000 or Windows XP
•
Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher
NOTE: Netscape and Mozilla are not compatible browsers and
cannot be used to perform the upgrade.
CAUTION: This upgrade applies to SY1 firmware being upgraded
from the following versions only:
V1.020
V1.060
V1.080
If you are upgrading from an interim beta version (V1.1b1 or V1.1b2),
you must downgrade to V1.0 first before you upgrade to V1.1.
PDW-530/510
•
For PDW-530/510, supply DC power from the DC IN terminal, and
not from the battery.
•
Firmware V1.1 for PDW-530/510 comes in two separate packages:
Package A and Package B. Therefore, upgrade the firmware in two
stages in the following order only:
1. Package A
2. Package B
Make sure you specify the correct package file before you upgrade
the firmware.
5-2. Prepare PDW Unit
1. Remove any DISK that may be inserted in the unit before you
begin the upgrade.
2. Disconnect the i.LINK cable or audio cable (including headphones)
if connected to the unit.

5-3-1. Connect to PDW Unit Through Internet Explorer
1. Turn the PDW unit ON, and connect it to your network as
described under “SET NETWORK CONFIGURATION” on page 2.
NOTE: When you upgrade PDW-530/510, use the AC adaptor for
the power supply.
2. Start Internet Explorer on the host PC.
3. Choose Tools > Internet Options.
4. Click the General tab, then click Delete Files under Temporary
Internet files. After the confirmation message appears, click OK.
5. Click OK in the Internet Options window.
6. Access the PDW unit through Internet Explorer as follows:
a. Type http://192.168.1.10 in the Address of Internet Explorer,
and press ENTER.
b. Type the User Name and Password:
User Name: admin
Password:
model of unit, including hyphen (-)
(Example: pdw-1500)

NOTE: The screen shots in this document are examples only. Your
data may differ from what appears in the screen shot.

7. Click Software Version under Status, and confirm that SY1
firmware is V1.020, V1.060, or V1.080.
CAUTION: This upgrade procedure should not be performed if you
have any other version.
5-3-2. Download Firmware (Package A)
1. Click Download under Maintenance.
The screen in Figure 6 appears.

2. Click To Step-1.
3. Turn the PDW unit OFF and back ON.
After approximately 60 seconds, the screen in Figure 7 appears.

4. Click To Step-2.
NOTE:
• The PDW unit starts in Download mode.
• PDW-1500/V1: Error91-215 appears on the front panel because
communication with KY is not executed in Download mode. This
error message is normal and does not indicate a problem.

5. Click the Browse button, and select the firmware package file to
be downloaded: Firmware Package A
6. Click To Step-3.
The upgrade starts, and the status is displayed on the screen.
7. Wait until Status changes to Finished as shown in Figure 9. This
operation takes a few minutes.
CAUTION: Do not turn power OFF while the upgrade is in
progress.

8. When Status is Finished, confirm that all firmware is saved
correctly as indicated by OK or NG. (See Figure 9.)
9. If firmware status is NG, the upgrade has failed. Refer to the
appropriate procedure under “TROUBLESHOOTING” on page 19.
If firmware status is OK, the upgrade was successful. Click
To Step-4.

5-3-3. Reset Network Settings
1. Turn the PDW unit OFF and back ON as follows:
PDW-V1:
Set the POWER switch on the rear panel to OFF.
PDW-530/510:
a. Disconnect the DC power supply from the DC IN terminal.
b. Turn the power OFF and back ON.
c. If MENU Ver.UP appears on the front panel, press the MENU
button, then press the SET button.
If the PDW unit starts with a beep, and VDR Change!! appears
on the viewfinder, turn power OFF and back ON.
2. Set the network from the menu again to match the settings under
“SET NETWORK CONFIGURATION” on page 2.
3. Turn the PDW unit OFF and back ON. Wait for 60 seconds, then
click Completed.
4. Delete the temporary Internet files in Internet Explorer.
NOTE: Refer to steps 3 through 5 under “Connect to PDW Unit
Through Internet Explorer” on page 8.
5. Type the IP address of the PDW unit (192.168.1.10) in the address
of Internet Explorer. (See Figure 11.)

6. Click Software Version under Status, and confirm that the SY1
firmware version is 1.0ee.
NOTE: The firmware version of SY1 changes as follows:
Before upgrade: 1.020 or 1.060 or 1.080
After Package A is written: 1.0ee
After Package B is written: 1.104 (Last two digits may differ.)

1. Click Download under Maintenance.
The screen in Figure 12 appears.

2. Click the Browse button, and select the firmware package file to
be downloaded: Firmware Package B
CAUTION: Make sure you select the correct package.
3. For Package Type, choose Recovery, and click To Step-2.
NOTE: If the message Package Type Conflict appears, you did
not select the correct package. Return to step 3 under “Reset
Network Settings” on page 12, and repeat all subsequent steps.
4. Wait until Status changes to Finished as shown in Figure 13.
This operation takes a few minutes.
CAUTION: Do not turn power OFF while the upgrade is in
progress.

5. When Status is Finished, confirm that all firmware is saved
correctly as indicated by OK or NG. (See Figure 13.)
6. If firmware status is NG, the upgrade has failed. Refer to the
appropriate procedure under “TROUBLESHOOTING” on page 19.
If firmware status is OK, the upgrade was successful. Click the To
Step-3 button.

7. Turn the unit OFF and ON. Wait for 60 seconds.
8. When MENU Ver.UP appears on the front panel, press the MENU
button, then press the SET button.
9. Click Completed to return to the primary screen.
10. Click Software Version, and confirm that all firmware (except AT
for PDW-530/510) is upgraded correctly.
5-4. Restore or Initialize Settings (PDW-1500/V1 Only)
When PDW-1500/V1 is upgraded from V1.0 to V1.1, menu settings
saved before the upgrade can be restored by converting the data
format to the V1.1 data format.
To restore menu settings, proceed to “Restore Settings” on page 16.
To initialize menu settings, proceed to “Initialize Settings” on page 17.
NOTE: You must choose to either restore or initialize menu settings.
5-4-1. Restore Settings
1. Turn the unit OFF and ON.
2. Press the MENU button, and rotate the JOG dial to select
B01:RECALL BNK1.
3. While pressing the SHUTTLE button, rotate the JOG to change the
value to ON.
NOTE: Push SET!! appears on the front panel.
4. Press the SET button. (BANK1 data is read.)
5. If data with a setting of 525/625 is different from the setting that
is recalled, the message Execute? appears. Press SET.
If the message Turn OFF!! appears on the front panel, turn the
unit OFF and ON, then proceed to step 7.
6. Press SET again. (The read-out data is reflected.)
7. Press MENU, and rotate the JOG dial to select B11:SAVE BANK1.
8. While pressing SHUTTLE, rotate the JOG dial to change the value
to ON.
NOTE: Push SET!! appears on the front panel.
9. Press SET. BANK1 data is converted to the V1.1 data format, and
is saved.
10. If you previously saved data to BANK2 and BANK3, perform
steps 2 through 9 again for BANK2 and BANK3 data.
11. Press SET.
NOTE: If you perform step 12 without pressing SET, the following
message appears:
ALARMSET UP MENU SETTING ARE CHANGED. SAVE SET UP MENU
IN ADVANCE.

12. Press MENU. Then while pressing COUNTER SELECT, press SET to
display the Maintenance menu.
13. Select SETUP MAINTENANCE, and press the

This completes the upgrade from V1.0 to V1.1.
5-4-2. Initialize Settings
1. Turn the unit OFF and ON.
2. Press MENU. Then while pressing COUNTER SELECT, press SET to
display the Maintenance menu.
3. Select SETUP MAINTENANCE, and press the

9. When the message TURN OFF!! appears on the front panel, turn
the unit OFF and ON.
This completes the upgrade from V1.0 to V1.1.
5-5. Upgrade AT Firmware (PDW-530/510 Only)
Upgrade AT firmware using a memory stick as follows:
1. Create the following directory in the memory stick:
MSSONY\PRO\CAMERA\PDW530
2. Copy the pdw530at.rom file to the directory just created.
3. Turn the unit OFF
4. Insert the memory stick (containing the pdw530at.rom file) into
the memory stick slot.
5. Turn the unit ON.
6. The message MEMORY STICK ACCESS appears. Wait until the
message disappears. While pressing the MENU knob, set the
MENU ON/OFF switch to ON. The menu appears on the viewfinder.

CAUTION: DO NOT remove the memory stick from the slot while
the message MEMORY STICK ACCESS appears on the screen.
7. Choose TOP > DIAGNOSIS, and press the MENU knob.
8. Rotate the MENU knob to scroll up to ROM VERSION page 1.
9. While the message ?D03OROM VERSION 1 appears, press the
MENU knob long enough to enter Version Upgrade mode.
NOTE:
• If a memory stick is not inserted, the message NO MEMORY
STICK appears.
• If the message FORMAT ERROR appears:
a. Make sure that the memory stick access lamp is OFF (without
turning off the power).
b. Remove the memory stick, and reinsert it.
10. Select AT, and press the MENU knob.
One of the following messages appears:

VERSION UP OK?

Currently installed version is lower than

SAME VERSION OK?
Currently installed version is same as
version to be installed.
VERSION DOWN OK? Currently installed version is higher than
version to be installed.
11. Select YES, and press the MENU knob.
NOTE: The version upgrade starts, and the following sequence of
events occurs:
a. The ACCESS lamp blinks. (The lamp is located at the memory
stick insertion slot).
b. The following message appears after approximately ten seconds:
UPDATE#::::::::::
The number of pound (#) signs increases gradually.
c. An alarm sounds, and the WARNING lamp blinks; this is normal
and does not indicate a problem.
d. The following message appears and remains for approximately
ten seconds:
UPDATE COMPLETED
CAUTION: DO NOT remove the memory stick and DO NOT turn
power off before the UPDATE COMPLETED message appears.
12. After UPDATE COMPLETED appears, turn power OFF, and
remove the memory stick from the memory stick slot.
13. Turn power ON again to reboot the unit with the upgraded ROM.
NOTE: If nothing appears on the LCD, refer to
“TROUBLESHOOTING” on page 19.

6. TROUBLESHOOTING
6-1. If Web Access to PDW Unit Fails
1. Confirm that the network cable is connected correctly. When the
PDW unit is connected directly to the host PC, a cross-cable must
be used.
2. Confirm that network settings for the PDW unit and for the host
PC are correct, particularly the IP address and subnet mask.
3. Confirm that connection to the PDW unit is NOT set to use the
proxy in Internet Explorer.
4. If the message Not Found appears when Download is clicked,
even though the web screen of the PDW unit is displayed:
a. Delete the Internet temporary files from Internet Explorer.
b. Enter the IP address of the PDW unit in Internet Explorer.
6-2. If Firmware Package A Fails
If power is inadvertently turned OFF while writing firmware for
Package A, or if the firmware status ends in NG, perform the
appropriate procedure as follows.
6-2-1. PDW-1500
1. Turn PDW-1500 OFF.
2. Remove the main cover.
3. On the DPR-235 board (located on the rear left side of the unit),
set S2202 bits 6 and 7 to ON.
4. Turn PDW-1500 ON, and wait for 60 seconds.
5. Access PDW-1500 with Internet Explorer.
NOTE: If the network is configured by default, change the
network setting on the PC to enable access to PDW-1500.
6. Click Download > To Step-1 > To Step-2.
7. Click Browse, and select firmware Package A for PDW-1500.
8. Click To Step-3. Firmware writing starts.
9. When Status is Finished, confirm that all firmware is written
correctly as indicated by OK or NG.
10. If firmware status is OK, proceed to the next step.
If firmware status is NG, turn PDW-1500 OFF, and perform the
procedure from step 4 in this section.
If firmware status is still NG, contact Sony.
11. Turn PDW-1500 OFF.
12. On the DPR-235 board, set S2202 bits 6 and 7 to OFF.
13. Reinstall the main cover.
14. Continue the upgrade procedure from section 5-3-3, step 1.

6-2-2. PDW-V1
1. Turn PDW-V1 OFF.
2. Remove the bottom cover.
3. On the DPR-238 board, set S1902 (ITRON SW1) bits 6 and 7 to
ON.
4. Turn PDW-V1 ON, and wait for 60 seconds.
5. Access PDW-V1 with Internet Explorer.
NOTE: If the network is configured by default, change the
network setting on the PC to enable access to PDW-V1.
6. Click Download > To Step-1 > To Step-2.
7. Click Browse, and select firmware Package A for PDW-V1.
8. Click To Step-3. Firmware writing starts.

6-2-3. PDW-530/510
1. Turn PDW-530/510 OFF.
2. Open the inside panel, and remove the DCP-36 board.
3. On the DVP-27 board, set S400 (ITRON SW1) bits 2 and 3 to ON.
4. Turn PDW-530/510 ON, and wait for 60 seconds.
5. Access PDW-530/510 with Internet Explorer.
NOTE: If the network is configured by default, change the
network setting on the PC to enable access to PDW-530/510.
6. Click Download > To Step-1 > To Step-2.
7. Click Browse, and select firmware Package A for PDW-530/510.
8. Click To Step-3. Firmware writing starts.
9. When Status is Finished, confirm that all firmware is written
correctly as indicated by OK or NG.
10. If firmware status is OK, proceed to the next step.
If firmware status is NG, turn PDW-530/510 OFF, and perform the
procedure from step 4 in this section.
If firmware status is still NG, contact Sony.
11. Turn PDW-530/510 OFF.
12. On the DVP-27 board, set S400 bits 2 and 3 to OFF.

13. Reinstall the DCP-36 board and the inside panel.
14. Continue the upgrade procedure from section 5-3-3, step 1.
6-3. If Firmware Package B Fails
If power is inadvertently turned OFF while writing firmware for
Package B, or if the firmware status ends in NG, perform the following
procedure.
1. Turn the PDW unit ON, and wait for 60 seconds.
2. If Error91-215 appears on the front panel, turn the PDW unit
OFF and ON.
3. If Error91-215 is still displayed, contact your Sony service
center.
4. Access the PDW unit with Internet Explorer.
5. If the PDW unit is not accessible despite correct network settings,
contact Sony.
6. Continue the upgrade procedure from section 5-3-3, step 1.
6-4. If Nothing Appears on LCD After AT Firmware Upgrade
If nothing appears on the LCD after the AT firmware upgrade for
PDW-510/530, perform the following procedure to reset the unit to
factory defaults:
1. Turn PDW-530/510 OFF.
2. Remove the inside panel.
3. On the AT-154 board, set S202 bit 1 to ON.
4. Turn PDW-530/510 ON.
5. Select SERVICE MENU, and press the MENU knob.
6. Select FACTORY PRESET : EXEC from S01 MENU SET, and press
the MENU knob.
7. Select YES when PRESET OK? appears, and press the MENU
knob.
8. After the message COMPLETE appears, turn PDW-530/510 OFF.
9. On the AT-154 board, set S202 bit 1 to OFF.
10. Reinstall the inside panel.
