P & C Meeting Tuesday Please think about coming along to our meetings. They are brief, informative and worthwhile. We will be discussing fund raising ideas for the remainder of the year for those who wish to attend. Meetings are held at 7.00pm in the Library and everyone is most welcome. Thank you to those parents who assisted or supported the BBQ near the Post Office during the Horse Festival Parade. We made $900 which was excellent. Horse Festival Parade a fun day Congratulations to all those students who joined to put together the float for the 2015 parade. A special thanks to Miss Davis and Mrs Bishop who were responsible for preparing the items for the float and to Mr Garland who donated and drove his truck for our students. For more information regarding the canteen, please contact the supervisor, Belinda Field, on 6545 1008 1 26th May 2015 Congratulations to the Trivia Night Team What a fantastic night we had at the recent Sports Trivia Night at Scone Bowling Club. With 20 tables of competitors, everyone joined in the fun and donated a great deal to our school. The total raised on the night was $4000. This is the highest total we have raised in the history of the trivia nights. This would not have been possible without the amazing number of sponsors who donated prizes for the evening. This year we had more sponsors than ever before, with 50 local groups donating things to support the evening. The other group we could not have done without was the large group of teachers who worked really hard to raise the sponsorship, prepare the questions and prizes and work on the evening. I thank Mr Croucher and his fantastic team for a wonderful evening. Zone Athletics here in Scone Our school will be hosting the Zone Athletics Carnival in Scone on Friday 12th June. Many of our students have been selected to participate. Parents and family are invited to attend and support their student. “Be a Positive Influence” New furniture arriving during the holidays We have been given approximately $25,000 worth of new furniture for across the school. The first is due to arrive during the holidays. As a result we will be selling off at very reasonable rates, the tables that are in the Library. If you would like to purchase a square table, dimensions 880 x880 for $5, ring Mrs Frost BEFORE school finishes on Friday 26th June 2015 to book your table and you can pay at the front office during school hours the last week of term and collect it to take home. They are great for the shed or for young kids to sit around and play. Workplace Health and Safety Induction The school has organised a Work Health and Safety Induction Course on Monday 1st June. Cost is $80/ student which is very much reduced rate. Students need to get their Unique Student identifier number by registering on the usi number website. Google “usi number” and follow the links. Year 6 Orientation Day Wednesday 3 June is the next Orientation Day for our incoming Year 7 cohort. If you have a child in Year 6, you will have received an expression of interest form and if you returned it, a letter will go out shortly offering you a place at our school. If you have not returned these forms, students are most welcome to return them on this day. rd Lindy Hunt Principal P & C News The P & C ran a successful BBQ at the Horse Festival Parade. We increased our sales again this year and still managed to sell out again. We would like to thank Susan Ryan for doing such a great job organising the BBQ. We would also like to thank Greg, Hannah and Natalie Ryan, Caron and Greg Morris, Matthew Smith and Katherine Meier for their help on the day. If you know someone who has a child in Year 6, please let them know our day is on. They are most welcome to attend. Whooping Cough Alert You will have noticed that across the Upper Hunter there have been a number of reports of Whooping Cough. We sent notes homes a couple of weeks ago, as recommended by the Hunter/New England Health. We also put a reminder on our Facebook page for families to be aware. Whooping Cough can still be contracted if you are immunised, but the severity may be reduced. We would also like to thank everyone who supported us by purchasing food on the day. Raelee Smith President HAVE FUN, MAKE NEW FRIENDS, AND LEARN ABOUT ANOTHER CULTURE! Volunteer to host an international high school student arriving into Australia in July ’15 and you’ll be amazed at the way this unique and rewarding opportunity helps your family to become closer, to understand themselves better and to see the world in a new light. If you or your child has a cough that will not go away, worsens at night time, or is very persistent, it might be worth getting a test done. Schools, where lots of young people congregate, can spread the cough very easily, so please be on the lookout with your children. Whooping cough can be devastating to very young children in particular, so if you are a parent or grandparent, it is a very good idea to be immunised. Carefully selected students will arrive in July for their 3, 5, or 10 month programs from France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Spain and Colombia. They will live as a local, attend a local secondary school, arrive with their own spending money, and comprehensive insurance cover, all arranged by Southern Cross Cultural Exchange. You choose the nationality, the gender, the duration and the interests of the student that you feel is the best match for your family. Advocate for Children to visit our school On Thursday 4th June, Andrew Johnson, NSW’s new Advocate for Children and Young people, will visit our school to listen to the views of our students. The SRC will speak with him at the beginning of the day, and a group of Year 11 students will speak with him during period 2. This is a great opportunity for our students to have a say in where they think the government should put resources, develop programs etc. in relation to children and young people. 2 Visit us at www.scce.com.au, or call your local coordinator, Dianne on 0429406126 to request our international student profiles, and capture the spirit of family and friendship! “Be a Positive Influence” SCONE HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS CARNIVAL MAY 2015 3 SCONE HIGH SCHOOL HORSE FESTIVAL PARADE FLOAT 2015 4
