The Meetings, funded as part of the framework of Youth in Action European Program and
bringing together 7 European Partners’ structures, will be conducted in two parts:

A series of roundtables, presentations, debates
and workshop open to all attendees, on the theme of practices and methods of companionship in Europe.
27
& 28 APRIL 2014
Implementation of a future European platform
dedicated to young talents companionship structures will be for the Meetings Partners
only. This platform will focus on integration, training and networking.
The first objective of these four days: To define companionship in its diversity of forms and practice
(informal training, tutoring, mentoring, consulting) in order to focus on operational and political goals, a
definition that would allows the exchange of better practices between European experts. Second objective: offer a collective contribution to the opening up of European art markets, the promotion and mobility
of young artists and to the renewal of esthetics norms. In a way, replacing imagination in the centre of a
political project under construction.

Young creation in tomorrow’s Europe
In the framework of the Europe 2020 strategy and dealing with high levels of unemployment in all the
Member States, particularly young people, European Union places youth as a priority in terms of employment and professional integration. Moreover, the participation of European youth, especially, young
artists, in the European political project constitutes a major sticking point for the decision makers. What
does this mean in concrete actions? How can European and International mobility favour young artist
integration and their participation? To what extent can young creators be the driving force of a citizen’s
reappropriation of the European political project? Speakers will debate the integration and participation
of young artists in Europe.

Introducing companionship charter and cross office devices
In 2012, with the support of the NACRE, several Rhône-Alpes companionship offices worked on writing
a cultural companionship charter, intended to define methods, practices and values of these structures
and their staff. This national charter, signed by 30 structures in France, was the starting point to a review
and a grouping of companionship offices on national scale.
Speakers will present an inventory of the situation and the perspectives of such a “pooling and sharing”
between French companionship offices.

Young Talents’ Incubator
Jean-Luc Baillet, Director-General of Le Carreau du temple, will present the architecture and the
contents of the international companionship support mechanism of le Carreau du Temple, launched on
this specific occasion for the 2014-2015 season. He will also explain why he made emerging creation
as the core of his project structure.
L’appel à projet sera lancé à cette occasion. Ce dispositif est le résultat d’une étude menée par Mezzanine Spectacles analysant une dizaine de dispositifs d’accompagnement en Europe.

What does companionship mean
In the cultural sector, the term of companionship has been more common for some years now. Structures are growing and multiplying, companionship offices are developing everywhere in Europe while
realities differ from one structure to another. Training, consulting, tutoring, mentoring or outsourcing
expertise (in production and distribution), are many terms to be analysed in order to refine what companionship could mean. This results in a confusion on objectives, methods, target audiences and economic models of companionship. Based on the project experience by Open Latitudes, speakers will
question their own approaches of companionship and its impact on the development of artistic careers
and art market integration.

As a continuation of the first roundtable (Young Creation in Tomorrow’s Europe), French contact points

European Cultural Mobility Information Network, OnTheMove.

Devices and experiences of companionship across Europe
Artistic companionship widely differs among artistic forms and
countries. This half-day session will give us the opportunity to question different art forms and approaches by giving voice to our European
partners, companionship experts and artists, who can highlight diverse
economics models.
These conversations will enable us to reflect on methods, general philosophy and
the course of action to take. It will be then a matter of thinking about better sharing among us,
developing future partnership between our structures and favourising the internationalisation of
artistic careers by multiplying mobility and companionship of European projects.
