courses and innovative activities arranged by the College, many of which are in English,
making it one of the most vibrant cultural and scientific centres in the area. The International
College selects every year a number of Italian and international students for enrolment to
the first year at the Bachelor’s level: admissions are based on several selection criteria. In

EUROPEAN CREDIT TRANSFER AND ACCUMULATION SYSTEM (ECTS)
The European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) allows the transferring of university credits
throughout Europe. It is based on the clearness and transparency of the students’ plans
of study and on the assignment of appropriate credits for work completed. The objective
of this system is to guarantee that credits for the courses and exams taken during the
period spent abroad are granted and recognized according to clear rules, known to
students before leaving and based on precise agreements ruled by mechanisms that
are common to all the institutions participating in the Programme. Ca’ Foscari University
of Venice, according to the European directives, has established that the equivalence
of credits is 1 CFU = 1 ECTS. The ECTS scale used for converting marks is based on a
statistical distribution of marks in each area.
A table for converting marks is available at:

Life in Venice
One of the most eagerly awaited moments in a
Venetian student’s day is the so-called aperitivo in
campo: from the afternoon till late in the evening,
Campo Santa Margherita and Erbarìa Rialto
turn into venues where people chat, meet other
people, listen to music and where Venetian spritz
and cichetti – the traditional aperitif cocktail and
snacks that come with it – are a must.
Deciding to study at Ca’ Foscari means
deciding to live in Venice: a very unique
experience as living in Venice is so
different from living in any other city.
Venice is where past meets innovation.
Every day this city offers to its residents
– mostly students, the chance to
stimulate their thirst for knowledge
through its several and varied initiatives.
Living Venice is living art, architecture,
culture, development, research, attention
to the environment, and discovering
ancient traditions and different cultures.
Venice means the chance to meet the
whole world in every one of its small
squares.
Other not-to-be-missed events of the Venetian
calendar are:
•the Carnival, usually in February, involving
all Venetian squares with music, parties and
turns them into a kinds of outdoor club;
•Redentore Festival (Festa del Redentore), a
popular local festival, where Saint Mark’s basin
fills up with local boats and the streets (the socalled ‘calli’) fill up with sumptuously laid tables
for traditionally prepared dinners, awaiting the
spectacular fireworks that light up the lagoon;
•Biennale, an international exhibition, for
art and architecture lovers, showing works
of art and architectural projects by the
greatest contemporary artists (from June to
November)
•Venice Film Festival, taking place in
September in Lido, where emerging movie
directors and influential artists show their new
works;
