2016 TRADICAMPO 0 Eco Country Houses Page AZORES ISLANDS INTRODUCTION Tradicampo, Casas de Campo Tradicionais, Lda., is a Sao Miguel island, Azores, based company, whose business purpose is to provide temporary accommodation, tourist entertainment and rural tourism services. Tradicampo provides rural houses in the municipality of Nordeste. These houses are classified as "country houses," under the Portuguese official standards for Tourism in a Rural Area. Tradicampo is a member of Casas Açorianas, the official Azorean Rural Tourism Association. The Rural Tourist Accommodation Classification project, created and developed by Casas Açorianas, aims to reward the accommodation units with the best services. Tradicampo’s Houses was evaluated and, in accordance with that norm, was granted the level Gold (5 clovers). Additionally, Tradicampo’s Houses were awarded, since 2012, with the Green-Key Eco-label, which is the existing largest global eco-label for accommodation , in recognition for its good environmental practices. Tradicampo’s Houses guarantee a high level of authenticity and comfort, being the perfect spot to discover the island. The Nordeste municipality is connected by a new road, with an expressway profile, allowing a quick and safe access to all the other parts of the island. As a holiday destination, Sao Miguel Island definitely suit all tastes. Here you will find golf courses surrounded by flowers and lush vegetation, walking trails, where you can observe nature, birds, endemic plants and volcanic phenomena; cetacean and marine life observation; grey sandy beaches inviting you to spend hours of fun in the sea, which is sometimes calm, and where the waves are often ideal for surfing. And in this piece of heaven you will find Tradicampo Eco Country Houses, Unique Places, Unique experiences… CASA DA FONTE Situated in Algarvia and in the heart of Nordeste municipally, Casa da Fonte dates from the 18 th century. Its architecture is traditional, presenting, however, a linear structure, with the kitchen at one end followed by the rooms with an unusual style for the eastern of Sao Miguel Island. The building restoration and adaptation works began in 2009 with care to maintain its original architecture, preparing it for present day modern comfort. The interior of Casa da Fonte is noted by its height of the roof, the irregular basalt stone walls and the traditional wood oven. The warm colours of the walls and decoration give it a very welcoming environment. The past and present are to be found in the interior where the old restored furniture coexists harmoniously with modern conveniences. It is prepared to receive people of reduced mobility and consists of one bedroom, a spacious living room, equipped with a wood heater, a modern kitchen and a bathroom. It has also satellite TV, DVD player, Hi-FI system, small library and games (chess, draughts and cards). Casa da Fonte confronts the blue ocean on one side and on the other the green mountain Pico da Vara, the highest point in Sao Miguel Island. The grounds have a large garden area with some endemic plants, fruit trees, a drive with plane trees and typical flowers such as azaleas, hydrangeas and camellias. There is also a private car park, having an electric gate. The guests have at their disposal 2 bicycles, a croquet court and a veranda with barbecue. At their arrival, the guests will find bread and homemade jams, milk, coffee, tea, fruit, water, butter and cheese. In each house there are also some basic grocery items. It was built in the first half of the last century, in accordance with the traditional architecture of the area. Built for the owners own home it was, however, never lived in by its owner. It was bought from his descendents in an abandoned state and it was then adapted has a country house. Its original architecture was maintained but a contemporary additional part was added on in order to give it a covered outside living area. It has a large glazed in area from where it is possible to admire the well cared garden and the ever present ocean. At night fall one can enjoy beautiful scenery, inviting for a “dolce fareniente”, making this spot a little secret in this pleasant house. There is also a barbecue in this area. The welcoming interior decoration with shades of blue, contrasts the pale colours of the walls and the basalt stones. Pieces of traditional furniture in harmony with other modern pieces create a very comfortable environment. A double room, a living room with a wood heater for the coldest days, a modern kitchen containing a traditional wood oven and a bathroom, make up the inside of this house, where noting has been forgotten for the daily use of the Guests and where these can feel “at home far from home”. It has also satellite TV, DVD player, Hi-FI system, small library and games (chess, draughts and cards). Outside, a croquet court and 2 bicycles, to explore the surroundings, complete the leisure offer. The primitive buildings were built in the 19th century, in the typical architecture of the area, are made up of a main house and an agricultural addition. They were surrounded by cultivated land and orchards which served as subsistence farming for the family. At the time of the acquisition the buildings were in a degraded condition. In their restoration the existing was recovered and new buildings were added to assure comfortable living conditions. Now, Casas do Pátio are composed of two independent lodging units, a Casa do Tanque and a A Arribana, the latter an adaptation of the former agriculture addition. Outside there is a carefully kept garden with amazing views of the sea and mountains, a swimming pool with deck, from where one can enjoy magnificent sunsets, a croquet court and a veranda with barbecue. Each House has also satellite TV, DVD player, Hi-FI system, small library and games (chess, draughts and cards). Comfort and balance, are to be found in the decor, both inside and out, with traditional and modern furnishing, combining harmoniously with the ancestral stones of these Houses. At their arrival, the guests will find bread and homemade jams, milk, coffee, tea, fruit, water, butter and cheese. In each house there are also some basic grocery items. CASAS DO PÁTIO - CASA DO TANQUE In the restoration of Casa do Tanque its interior architecture was maintained, including the typical staircase to the attic, the traditional wood oven and the characteristic built in cupboard. It contains two double bedrooms, a kitchen/living room, a complete bathroom and another living room in the attic.
