MCDL News
StoryWalk® - On Saturday, June 13, MCDL and the
Medina County Park District celebrated the opening of
our new partnership, StoryWalk® at Carolyn Ludwig
Mugrage Park. We cut the ribbon and led a group of
local families along the trail for a first reading of the book,
Tap the Magic Tree by Christie Matheson. The children
enjoyed it so much they ran along the path to get to
each new page. StoryWalk® promotes literacy, physical
activity and spending time together as a family.
Each new season will bring a new story. Watch for
Fall Leaves by Loretta Holland in September 1.
Books & Brew Café Now Open
at Brunswick Library
A ribbon cutting was held to celebrate this new partnership between
MCDL and Medina Creative Housing on Mon., July 13, at 1:00 pm.
Carole Kowell, MCDL Director and Dianne DePasquale-Hagerty,
Medina Creative Housing
Chief Executive Officer,
joined Michael Carlson,
MCH Board President,
Mary Ogden, MCDL Board
President, Howard Elko,
MCDL Board Vice President
and others in cutting the
ribbon. The cafe is open
Mon. - Fri., 9:00 am - 3:00 pm.
Retire Your Flag at MCDL
Drop off your flag at any MCDL location. Mark Andrews, an Eagle Scout from Seville, created a drop off box for worn flags.
The flags will be retired with honor and respect. Here’s what Congress advised for the use of the U.S. flag in a joint
resolution dated June 22, 1942: When the flag is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem, it should be
destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.
MCDL Continues Partnership with Healthy Medina
Attending events with this apple next to them count for your
overall wellness points! See www.healthymedina.com for details!

Celebrating the
Freedom to Read
In 2015 we celebrate Young Adult books.
“Young Adult books are challenged more frequently than
any other type of book,” said Judith Platt, chair of the
Banned Books Week National Committee. “These are the
books that speak most immediately to young people, dealing
with many of the difficult issues that arise in their own lives,
or in the lives of their friends. These are the books that give
young readers the ability to safely explore the sometimes
scary real world. This Banned Books Week is a call to action,
to remind everyone that young people need to be allowed
the freedom to read widely, to read books that are relevant
for them, and to be able to make their own reading choices.”
Banned Books Week celebrates the freedom to read by
raising awareness of the ongoing threat of censorship.
