Improving the Productivity of Railway Track Maintenance
Based in Montgomery, Alabama Knox Kershaw Inc. was started in 1924 by Royce Kershaw, Sr. as the
Royce Kershaw Company. The name was changed in 1983 when his son, Knox Kershaw, took over
the company, growing it into one of the premier maintenance equipment manufacturers in the United
States and abroad.
Knox Kershaw Inc. has over 75 years of experience as an international supplier of goods and services
in the railroad industry. Our employees have the experience and expertise of generations of railroad track
maintenance equipment manufacturers enabling us to provide first rate design, service, and production
of the most sophisticated and efficient machines on the market.
With Knox Kershaw at the helm, and his children working in different areas of the company, a
long family tradition of providing MOW to the rail industry is continuing here at Knox Kershaw Inc.

the track.
The KBR standard broom has a sweep width of
110” and is driven by a single motor chain. Deflector
assembly is hydraulically raised and lowered; this allows for quick transfer of excess ballast to the track
shoulder.
Ballast Regulators
KBR 925
The KBR 925 is designed for ballast work on all types of track. Superb visibility in every direction, especially
the wing areas, makes it the ideal machine for final profiling. The one pass transfer plow used in conjunction
with the wing makes transferring from shoulder to shoulder a one pass operation, while leaving one shoulder
profiled. The reversible wings allow work in either direction so no movement is lost. The heavy duty broom
box gives great service life, and the standard reversing valve allows ballast to be swept away from switches
and road crossings. With the addition of optional rotating baffles, ballast can be swept to both sides evenly,
or to the left or right.

KNG 800
Offered in gauges of 914mm (36”), one meter, and 1067mm (42”), the KNG 800 is a powerful track dressing
machine specifically designed for narrow gauge applications. The short wheel base, and narrow track allow
this machine to negotiate tight curves and the frame has been widened to ensure a stable working platform.
The ballast equipment is designed to fit in a narrow travel envelope, ensuring that it can go where ever it is
needed. The low ratio axles provide greater tractive effort, allowing the machine to work on steeper grades.

Convertible Gauge Ballast Regulators
KBR 925C
The KBR 925C is Knox Kershaw Inc.’s first convertible ballast regulator. It can be converted from standard
1435mm gauge to one of three broad gauges (1520mm, 1600mm, 1676mm). It can be equipped with a
one pass type plow, reversible side wings, and a broom attachment. As with the standard KBR 925, the
925C features excellent visibility and operator comfort made possible by a rear mounted engine and tilt cab
with unique window placement. The machine can be equipped with various snow plows, snow wings, and
snow switch cleaner for snow fighting. Machine assembly includes parts required to make the conversion
from 1435mm to one broad gauge.
KNG 800C
The KNG 800C is a versatile ballast regulator with international appeal. It can be converted from standard
1435mm gauge to one of 3 narrow gauges (914mm, 1000mm, 1066mm). This is a great feature for
railroads and contractors that need to provide maintenance for railroads with different track gauges in the
same rail system. The regulator can be equipped with a one pass type plow, reversible side wings, and a
broom attachment. The machine is built on a lengthened mainframe allowing easy access to components.

Snow Fighter
KSF 940
The KSF 940 is a custom built snow fighter based off the KBR 925 frame. The 940 sports a 50K lb. working
weight, a larger cab for a second operator’s seat, special cold weather heaters, and specially designed wings,
plows, and brooms built specifically for snow fighting in the harshest environments. The large curl kits allow
for plowing through the deepest of snow. The wings push snow 16 feet from the track center, and the snow
switch cleaner can blow snow over 30 feet. In warm weather conditions the snow fighter has the option of
being converted to a ballast regulator.

maintenance components on the roof. The pressurized
cab has improved headroom, and standard joystick
controls. A second operator’s seat is optional.
Plow
The 4-season plow has a heavy structural frame and
can be used for snow or ballast. Bolt-on curls allow
conversion for snow removal. Axe handle elements at
rail cutouts mean less material left at the rail.
Cranes
KBC 1100
The Knox Kershaw Inc. KBC 1100 Bridge Crane is
equipped with rail clamps to attach it firmly to the
track in even the most high risk areas, a powerful
winch which can handle up to 4000 lbs. and easily
maneuver caps and stringers within a radius of 10 ft.
from the track center line, and an articulating grapple
which provides the ability to replace bridge ties, caps,
and stringers quickly, with minimal manpower. The
KBC 1100 handles 1200 lbs. at a radius of 24 ft.

of 24 ft. (7.32 m) from the track center. The heavy
duty, all welded, reinforced construction of the upper
deck and mainframe withstands loading, and provides
long life to the equipment. Its powerful arm rotates
360 degrees, and can be outfitted with a tie or
basket grapple, making it a versatile and adaptable
machine to many different jobs. The minimal tail

Tie Cranes
KTC 2000
The KTC 2000 Tie Crane has a range of movement that sets it apart from other cranes. It
is capable of handling 1200 lbs. at a radius of 24 ft. from the track centerline. The upper
deck is capable of 360° rotation, as is the tie grapple. The boom swing moves independently
of the deck, and can swing 120°- 60° each side of center. This allows the machine to work
efficiently in tight clearances where deck rotation is inhibited.
