Organic Salads from Earthbound Farm
Organic is an ever growing trend,
especially in the produce department.
Earthbound Farm has been a big leader
in this category, by offering many organic
salads that are quickly becoming consumer favorites.
The EBF website features what would
happen if every person in the US made
10% of their food purchases organic for
a year. This would assure 915 million
animals are treated more humanely,
eliminate 2.5 million pounds of antibiotics used in livestock each year, 53 million
servings of produce would be produced
without toxic pesticides each day, and
many more. So, eat organic!

Earthbound Farms Organic Salads
Increase sales and profits with the category king
When you offer Earthbound Farms organic
salads in your produce department, you
take advantage of multiple growth trends
contributing to increased sales in the produce
departments across the nation. This line of
items embraces organic, convenience, health
and demographic appeals.
Demonstrated and continuing organic
sales growth: According to the 2015 Organic
Industry Survey, sales of fresh organic fruits
and vegetables increased by 12% from the year
before, remaining the number one organic food
category. Organic fresh fruits and vegetables
accounted for 12% of retail fresh produce sales
during the year.
You want these folks shopping your
department: Progressive Grocer magazine
notes that the profile of organic shoppers is
broadening, becoming more diverse in age,
income and background. In particular, there is
growing participation from ethnic groups and
Millennials.
Fresh Trends 2016 notes that 50% of shoppers
buy organic produce for personal nutrition
reasons, 48% to avoid chemicals, and 45%
for perceived better nutrient content. The
survey also notes that one-third of shoppers
“typically” add organic produce to their carts.
the largest organic brand in the nation. More
than 50% of Midwesterners bought salad mix
last year and 26% of those bought organic
salad mix all or sometimes. Strengthening your
organic salad category is a gateway opportunity
to increase your organic sales overall. This
can help broaden your customer base and
raise your average customer transaction, and
productivity.
Produce Business magazine notes that more
consumers are buying salad blends rather than
single-leaf items because they are looking for
flavor and options in how to use salads. In
fact, nearly 75% of shoppers said they prefer
a mixed greens assortment or spring mix. A
2013 study by the Seurat Group, sponsored
by Earthbound Farms, found that 34% of
shoppers used packaged greens for something
other than salad, including smoothies, juicing
and cooking.
To sell more: Do these 4 things:
1. Consider offering EBF 10oz clamshell
blends.
2. Consider offering EBF 1# blends for
juicing and smoothies.
3. Advertise when EBF salads are on deal.
4. Promote in-store monthly with a modest
discount and sign.
