PREP ENROLMENTS FOR 2016
Parents of current students at Bellbridge who have a younger sibling who will be starting
Prep in 2016 are strongly encouraged to enrol now.
This month, we will be informing the Education Department of our predicted enrolments and our accuracy in
predicting Prep enrolments is critical due to classroom space and staffing.
Please contact the Office if you wish to arrange a tour or a chat with a member of the Leadership Team prior to
enrolling.
LATE ARRIVAL/EARLY LEAVERS
Any child arriving to school after 8.30am is required to attend the office, with a parent/guardian, to obtain a late
pass. If your child is leaving school early, the parent/guardian is required to send a note with their child on the
morning informing the classroom teacher of the time they will be collected and who will be collecting them.
The parent/guardian is required to sign the child out at the office, where arrangements will be made for the
child to come up to office.

PRINCIPAL WRITES
SCHOOL ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
The annual School Athletics Carnival will held at the Victoria University Sports Field tomorrow (Hoppers
Lane, opposite Suzanne Cory H.S.). Students in Grades 3 – 6 will be competing in their House Sports teams of
Middleton (Red), Coker (Blue), Gillard (Yellow) and Hughes (Green). Students are encouraged to wear their
‘House colours’ on the day (e.g. pants, shirts, jumpers, hair ties, socks). It is also recommended that students
dress appropriately for cold and windy weather conditions, as well as pack extra drinks (water) and snacks
(fruit) to keep up their energy throughout the day.
All students have the opportunity to earn points for their House team for attempting and/or gaining 1st, 2nd, 3rd
or 4th place in a range of events that include: 100, 200, 400 metres races, long jump, high jump, triple jump,
hurdles, discus and relays. Some of our students will be selected to represent Bellbridge at the District
Athletics later this term.
PLAY GROUP at BELLBRIDGE
Our weekly Play Group sessions have been a wonderful success with a regular group of parents’ and preschoolers and toddlers attending. The families meet every Thursday morning between 8:30 – 10:30am in the
Out of School Hours Care rooms. At times, the program is at capacity, but interested parents are welcome to
contact the Office to register to attend or have their name put on a waiting list.
PARENT FEEDBACK via ONLINE SURVEY
A few weeks ago a random selection of parents were provided with the opportunity to complete a Parent
Opinion Survey developed by the Education Department.
As part of our School Review process, we would like to offer a similar opportunity for all families to participate
in an online survey (using Survey Monkey). The survey will be available for you to access online for a specific
period of time and the results of the survey will be published in the newsletter. You will receive more details
soon. We look forward to your input, opinions and suggestions.
ACTIVE TRAVEL PROGRAM
We are seeing steady improvement in the number of students who are actively travelling to school, as the data
below indicates. Please keep promoting the healthy initiative around choosing to walk or ride to school as
much as possible.
Approximately 50% of our families live within a short walking distance from our school and we are aiming to
achieve this percentage of active travel on a regular basis.

GROUNDS & FACILITIES
A significant amount of work has been undertaken recently, to ensure our grounds and facilities are maintained
to a satisfactory standard for our students and staff. This has included:
- Split system heating and air conditioners were installed in several classrooms
- A new phone system was installed which includes features that allow parents to leave phone messages
regarding student absences and communicate with Out of School Hours Care
- A concrete path was created along the new classrooms and the sandpit – this will enable students to
walk their bikes and scooters to the bike shed along a second route when the construction site is no
longer fenced for our tradespeople
- A gate was built into the outdoor area next to Room 29 (Prep E) to provide easy exit/access.
- Fans, louvres and heaters in the BER have been adjusted so that they are all now manually controlled
- Internal work continued in the new classrooms and we will now have three viable learning spaces
where the portable was removed last year
We appreciate the great work done by our Facilities & Grounds Coordinator, Brian Rich!

ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL
If your child is absent from school for any reason, we require parents/guardians to notify the school
office that they won’t be attending. When your child returns to school, a note must be given to their
teacher detailing the date and the reason for the absence.
If your child has any long term absences from school, (eg. holidays, extended illness etc) a note is
required to be given to their teacher informing them of the absence prior to them commencing the
absence.
ASTHMA FORMS
For any student who suffers from Asthma the school must have an action plan in the student’s file in case
of an emergency. If your child suffers from Asthma, please send the form back to school as soon as
possible. It is important that we have this information on hand so as we can assist your child effectively.
