PIONEER IPM
A NEW PIONEER BRANCH:
Pioneer International Projects Management has just started
the process of establishing of a new branch in Jordan as a
part of its preparation for a Potential Mega Project in Amman
and AQABA.
The operation of this newly established branch is supposed to
be activated within the second quarter of this year.
OUR NEW PROJECTS:
The following projects have been assigned to Pioneer International Projects Management during the 1st quarter of the
2009:
1. P048: Claim Preparation for 5 Commercial
buildings related to NTCC
2. P049: Boundary Wall of Grand Mosque in Abu
Dhabi

It is my pleasure to write this introduction for our news letter implementation.
I hereby encourage every Pioneer Member to participate in the preparation of the coming issue as well as providing constructive comments
to the IT section to enrich their vision for the preparation of the new
issue.
Finally, I would like to thank all the participated members in this issue
for their efforts which are the success of this issue to see the light.

PROGRAMME CRASHING
Defenition: Crashing is decreasing your project duration.
e.g.: If I have 2000 m3 excavation and a loader which excavates 500 m3/day then the excavation
activity will take 2000/500=4
days the loader rate per day
is 600 Dhs. Then the excavation activity will cost me
600 x 4 = 2400 Dhs.
If I decide to get 2 loaders
per day the productivity will
increase to be 1000 m3/day
and the excavation activity
will take 2000/1000= 2 days
the activity cost then will be
600 x 2 x 2 =2400 Dhs.
Is this called crashing????
Of course no this is a bad
planning from you from the
beginning why to do the activity in 4 days instead of doing it in 2 days although both
have the same cost. Planning is to use the optimum solution which in this case is using 2 loaders.
So why people always says crashing results in extra cost????
I will tell you why just please see the following example
e.g.: the same above example if I need to do the same activity in one day and the max loaders
that can work in excavation is 2 loaders due to area constrains, then I will get two other loaders
and let them work a night shift where the loader rate in the night shift is 700 Dhs , now I can finish the activity in one day but the cost will become (2 x 600) + (2 x 700) = 2600 Dhs., which is
more than 2400 Dhs.
Now you know why crashing cost you an extra time, in fact night shifts is not only the cause of
increasing cost due to crashing but also some times especially in finishing works when you increase number of crews you increase the total productivity but the one crew productivity decrease because or disruption of crowded area, so the crew which produces for example 10 m2/
day and take 100 Dhs will produce 9 m2 and take the same 100 Dhs. (I.e. increase in cost of 1
m2). There is many other factors affects crashing cost and many researches are made in this
concern but I hope I give you a good start to know more about crashing.

Software & IT
Pioneer is one of the companies that are highly updated in
terms of technology, it is currently using the latest Primavera
software that is being use by the engineers to record and
update the progress or development of every project.
This issue is forming a trial to issue our corporate 1st newsletter and the participants are
very limited. However, if you wish to participate
in the newsletter please send your idea to the
IT Department with you text, photo, and your

All the departments are using a high technology machines
and programs to ensure the smooth flow of the company’s
every day business. Like by checking the employee’s attendance, the company is using a Blue Key Finger Print system
to record the log in and log out of every employees. Peachtree accounting system is also one of the programs that are
being use by our accountants right now to check the flow of
the company’s liquidity and statistics. In the Administration
department they are using MS Office 2007 in making some
documents. IT is using the latest
Photoshop for editing and creating some designs. All computers
are having a windows XP, even
though this is not the latest processor our IT is making it sure that
all computers are powerful and
still convenient to use and helpful.

Pioneer Events
PIONEER held an IFTAR Party last on Oct. 11, 2008 at Sheraton Hotel. It was a successful event because everybody were able to enjoyed and each other’s company.

Last Dec. 02, 2008 and March 13, 2009 Pioneer Staffs are get together in Khalidia
Park to bonding each employee, to know each other, and to tackle about how to solve
and survive the company for the global crisis.

I am a Contractor Can I claim against the Engineer or the Employer????
Of course you can, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Law no 21 for the year 2006 gives you the right to
claim the Engineer or the Employer for their failure to comply with their obligations it also gives
you the right to claim for an extension of time and extra cost for any reasons that was out of your
hand and it affects your project completion date.
On what basics contractor built their entitlement to an extra cost claim???
Contractors build their cost claims on the following (prolongation, financial charges, loss of profit,
and loss of trade, escalation in material rates, disruptions, and variations ….etc)
All versions of FIDIC also give you the right to claim. The FIDIC new version (FIDIC 1999) and
its yearly updating is showing a complete clause “clause 20.1” for contractor claims.
Even if the engineer or the Employer disagree to your claim you can raise your claim to arbitration or court after failing to solve the issue with amicable settlement, all as per the FIDIC and
Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Law. Here below are some clauses showing your right to claim.
