The Canadian show has showcased the talents of hundreds of artists over 18 years representing a variety of genres – rock, pop, hip hop, opera, gospel, dancehall, soul, jazz, etc. Nelly Furtado is our most famous alumna and is now a sponsor of the Canadian show. The initiative debuted in Barbados in February 2011 to an overflow crowd and rave Reviews. Over the last 3 years we’ve received coverage in the Nation, Advocate, Heat, Kurama Magazine, Hello Magazine, Attitude Magazine, Barbados Today, M People Magazine, Mid-Morning Mix, Better Health, In Business Magazine, all radio stations, and five ½ hour Honey Jam TV segments which aired on CMC and CBC. We also participate with our artists in charitable events such as Love, Poetry & Song, the Power Dressing fundraiser for women in shelters, the JCI event for special needs children and singing during Christmas at QEH. I'm glad I was able to attend, as I gained lots of information from all the panellists, who were down-to-earth and easily approachable. I truly enjoyed Indrani's contribution - her freedom of expression is something I believe all songwriters should strive to achieve. Kite and Simon Pipe gave some very practical information, and Vivian shared ultimate, and real truths about the music industry. Overall, a great balance of personalities making it a great workshop, culminating in a great performance by Debbie! Kudos to Ebonnie, and the entire Honey Jam team. The variety of personalities on the panel and the various segments that this workshop was broken down into made it a very informative workshop. This was indeed a great addition to the line of workshops with valuable information on the business side of the music industry.” Kysanne Lewis Honey Jam…Supporting“ Barbadian Female Artists ARTIST TESTIMONIALS (2) “I found the Vocal & Performance workshop to be extremely helpful even for artists who have already received vocal training. Elaine has the fantastic ability of bridging the gap between an artist's inherent personality and the stage performance personality that is necessary to keep an audience engaged. What's special about her is she is able to do this without betraying the true nature of the artist. It is encouraging and inspiring to watch her pull the best versions of yourself out of the closet so to speak in such a short period of time. This is a workshop I wish we could have for more than one day.” Debbie Reifer “The highlight for me was learning from others what makes me pop, and what makes me FLOP! LOL! Thank you to Ebonnie Rowe, Elaine Overholt and all the Honey Jam ladies for making this possible! A quote I find that embraces what we saw today is "Make visible what, without you, might perhaps never have been seen." - Robert Bresson... This was very informative and helpful. Elaine touched on all the basics necessary for good vocal technique, stage presence and performance. Elaine indeed made the Honey Jam ladies aware of themselves and their appearance on stage, by giving honest, constructive criticism which contributed to the stellar performances at the concert.” Kysanne Lewis Honey Jam…Supporting Barbadian Female Artists Artist testimonials (3) The music industry workshop was extremely helpful. I learned so much about what lies behind the glamour of the industry. Shontelle and Vita gave valuable advice and dispelled some myths I had in my head about recording contracts versus the independent music route. The panelists all brought forth different perspectives, and the information provided shed light on artist development, song publishing, what scouts are really looking for, and most importantly, you presented the opportunity to assert ourselves and make valuable lifelong connections. Next year, I'd add additional perspectives, such as tour managers, merchandising, and a PR person in charge of artist's social networking. Dennica Pearl The Industry Workshop was fantastic. The sound and solid advice from each of the panelists in the business on how to survive as independent artists in the rapidly changing music market was priceless. It helped shed some light on grey areas in my business plan that I was uncertain on how to tackle before. The idea to have local success stories like Shontelle and Vita help us understand the real life application and benefits of the independent business model was an excellent learning opportunity and I believe really inspired many of the Honey Jam girls into believing the "dream" is actually an attainable goal with hard work, perseverance and business smarts. The warnings about the business that the entire cast of panelists gave will help many of the Honey Jam girls chart a wiser path for their music careers. The approachability of each of the panelists despite many lofty achievements in their careers was an added asset. It permitted me the freedom to seek customized advice during the break time that has significantly contributed to how I will plot the next 6 - 8 months of working on my business model. This is a "must attend" kind of event. Debbie Reifer Honey Jam…Supporting Barbadian Female Artists ARTIST TESTIMONIALS (4) “The showcase was beautifully produced, and well promoted. The stage set up was stunning, Cici did a wonderful job MCing, NJ3 kept the energy up and provided each and every girl with an amazing soundscape to sing to. The industry reps in attendance were so amazing to interact with, and the showcase provided us girls with connections to the industry that are lifelong and promising. Overall, I had a life changing experience.” Dennica Pearl “The concert was a fabulous experienced and gave me allot of confidence and experience which was a great way of launching my career, thank you so much for selecting me to be one of the Honey Jam girls it was an unforgettable experience. :)” Neira “The show was amazing, loved the lights and the smoke and all the effects on stage ... the band was amazing. They really brought my song to life and gave me the energy I needed to perform that song the way I did.... all the workshops were very beneficial and gave me a whole heap of knowledge about the music industry. I would say Honey Jam has probably been the highlight of my career thus far and I would advise any young aspiring female artiste to sign up next year. I also encourage other people to do what Ebonnie has done and is doing. We need more people out there like her who believe in young aspiring artists and wish to see them achieve their dream. Thank you once again Ebonnie, all of the sponsors and every one on the Honey Jam team who made Honey Jam 2013 possible.” Tyra Trotman Honey Jam…Supporting Barbadian Female Artists PRESS Honey Jam…Supporting Barbadian Female Artists Press Honey Jam…Supporting Barbadian Female Artists Press Honey Jam…Supporting Barbadian Female Artists PRESS Honey Jam…Supporting Barbadian Female Artists Press Honey Jam…Supporting Barbadian Female Artists Press Honey Jam…Supporting Barbadian Female Artists Press Honey Jam…Supporting Barbadian Female Artists Press Honey Jam…Supporting Barbadian Female Artists Bookmarks, Buttons & T-SHIRTS Honey Jam…Supporting Barbadian Female Artists “and by my living, to do credit to my Nation, wherever I may go” For more information please contact: Ebonnie Rowe at [email protected] www.honeyjambarbados.com Twitter: @honeyjambdos FB: HoneyJam Barbados Honey Jam…Supporting Barbadian Female Artists
