We have decided to re-instate our
newsletter, to better keep you
informed of both current & upcoming
events that are happening within our

We still hold our weekly Friday Night
Fish Fry / Meat Draw, which is very
successful & enjoyed by all who
attend. The support of this event is
very much appreciated. I would like
to say a huge thank you to everyone
who helps out in anyway. As the old
adage goes, many hands make light
work. We would not be able to
continue this event without you.
In the near future we will begin
having Bingo Nights at the hall which
will be looked after by our Deputy
Grand Knight, Alan Wood. We are
also planning a Casino Night.
It’s that time of year again!! Time for
our annual ‘New Toys For Needy Kids’

What a wonderful way to kick off the
Christmas Season, all the while
supporting a great cause that began
from an idea that our late brother
knight Chuck Waurechen had many
years ago.
I’d like to wish each of you and your
loved ones a very Merry Christmas &
a Blessed New Year!!
Please remember amid all the hustle
& bustle of the upcoming holiday
season to ‘Keep Christ in Christmas’.
After all He is the Reason for the
Season.

Spiritual Director’s Message
Dear Knights and friends.
to stop lying. The point is
clear. The truth sets you
free.
WAKE UP! This is the focus on the first
Sunday of Advent. Jesus in the gospel
urges us, “Be on your guard!...Be alert at
all times!”
When you stop lying, and
face, and speak the truth,
you change, the world
changes, you get healthy,
no matter what you have
done, and no matter what
Fr. Ray Reitzel, C.R.
issues you are struggling
Chaplain
with. To lie, in any of area
of life, is to be somehow sick in every area
of life.
Advent is set aside to commemorate and
celebrate Jesus’ coming in the flesh. The
Church designates Advent as a time to be
mindful and responsive to the Lord’s
coming. It is time to be aware of the
Lord’s presence to us now, and in so many
ways, until the Lord welcomes us to our
final home.
Is not this the point of the Sacrament of
Reconciliation, to experience the generous
love and mercy of God? To be set free, and
rejoice?
It is time to recommit to the “Advent” Way
of life, the “coming” of Christ each day.
The experience of His presence can be as
ordinary as a visit by a friend, or a
moment in prayer, or the birth of the child,
or the death of a loved one, or…each is an
extraordinary revelation of God’s presence.
And may you all be blessed with a very
Merry Christmas, and a Happy, Healthy,
and Holy New Year!
The focus of the:
2nd week of Advent is SHAPE UP! John
the Baptist, “Prepare the way of the Lord!”
3rd week is CHEER UP! This is Gaudete
Sunday. St. Paul: “Rejoice in the Lord
always!”
4th week is HURRY UP! “Mary went with
hast to visit Elizabeth.” The birth of Jesus
is imminent! (reflect on this passage as
you prepare to “SHAPE UP!” in the 2nd
week of Advent.)
In Ron Rolheiser’s book, Against an
Infinite Horizon, “You are as sick as
your sickest secret!” That’s a phrase
some AA groups use to challenge people to
understand what, at its roots, sobriety
really is. We are sober, truly sober, when
we stop lying.
We don’t have to be sinless, bright, or
even religiously interested to find Christ
and eventually, give ourselves over to him.
We just have to be honest. We just have

19th Annual New Toys for Needy Kids Report
It is that time again, as right after the
Santa Claus Parade, we begin the
wonderful duty of distributing
thousands of toys and movie passes to
our receiving agencies in the Region of
Waterloo, and in Emergencies beyond.
This year marks the 19th year that we
will have the privilege of helping Needy
Kids.
When we remember back and how all
this started with Brother Chuck
Wauerchen 19 years ago with the
145 Dearborn Place, Waterloo, Ontario N2J 4N5

distribution of 175 Toys, and after his tragic
demise, Brother Jim Lehman picked up the
torch, expanded the Toy Drive and our toy
distribution just keeps on growing.
We have come a very long way, over these
years, as last year, we distributed over 19
thousand toys and movie passes.
Your Waterloo Knights of Columbus is the
largest distributor of toys in the Region of
Waterloo, a fact that we can be very proud of.

From Everyone at Waterloo
Knights of Columbus
Council 5135!
Knights of
Columbus
Prayer Service
When a Brother Knight passes away, please inform the funeral director that you
wish to have a Knights of Columbus prayer service when you are making the
arrangements. They will inform the Council.
A 4th Degree member may also wish to have a 4th Degree Honor Guard.
God our Father, your Son accepted our sufferings to teach us the virtue of patience in
human illness. Hear the prayers we offer for our sick brother/sister. May all who suffer
pain, illness, or disease realize that they have been chosen to be saints and know that they
are joined to Christ in his suffering for the salvation of the world. We ask this through
Christ our Lord. Amen.
If you or your spouse knows of a brother Knight or his spouse who is
ill, please inform the Grand Knight so that we may pray for them.
