All classes is designed to address the Pennsylvania Academic Standards. All art supplies are provided. Students are encouraged to bring “paint shirts” to class. stories. Using a variety of media, students will create an artwork that “grows from the ground up”, showing things above and below the horizon line. Non-Traditional Techniques: No Brushes Allowed; During the Museum’s building project, art classes will be held at the Midtown Scholar Bookstore, at 1302 North Third Street, Harrisburg, PA 17102. Rembrandts & Rainbows will continue to Artists use many kinds of materials to paint with—some even paint without brushes! In this workshop, students will explore a Street, Harrisburg, PA 17101. unique work of art. Rembrandts & Rainbows (ages 3–6): Talented Teens (ages 12–18): Finding Focus: Georgia O’Keeffe; Themes for spring include Line (A), Shape (B), and Pattern (C). Students will learn to identify these features and have opportunities to create their own artworks using line, shape and pattern. Each workshop is different and allows experimentation with a variety of materials and techniques. Intermediate Illusionists (ages 7–11): Mary Cassatt: Family Portraits; inspiration, students will explore proportion and human portraiture using shapes instead of “stick people” to create a family portrait with oil pastels. Lois Ehlert: Growing from the Ground UP; Author/illustrator Lois Ehlert (best known for books like Chicka Chicka Boom Boom) uses cut paper collages to illustrate her Art to Go!: SAM’s Art to Go! program introduces students of all ages to great works of art, important artists and pivotal periods of art history in your setting. Themed portfolios are arranged by artist, art movement or historical period. Corresponding curriculum includes historical timelines, biographical information and background information on the reproductions included in each portfolio. Art to Go! Portfolios can be rented for a period of 8 weeks; or you can contract a SAM art educator to facilitate a program at your site for a nominal fee. Contact the Education Department for details. VanGo! Museum on Wheels: The mission of VanGo! is to provide exposure to original works of art for students who may not otherwise visit a museum. At the heart of this project is the belief that a quality arts education experience introduces viewers to the primary source, not reproductions. VanGo! teaches all children that creativity lies within every human being and provides a forum for further skills. You CAN draw: One & Two Point Perspective; If you’ve heard someone say, “I can’t draw!” this class will disprove that idea as students work with rulers and vanishing More than a dot: Pointillism; In this workshop, students explore how “dots” of color can be used to show value (light and dark areas) in an image. Students Impressionist Georges Seurat, working with primary colors and placing dots near one another to create secondary colors.
