Summer 2012
Kid’s Art Classes &
Education Programs
SAM’s kid’s art classes provide a forum to explore drawing,
sculpture, painting, art history and art appreciation. All classes
are taught by Pennsylvania certified art educators and curriculum is designed to address the Pennsylvania Academic Standards. All art supplies are provided. Students are encouraged
to bring “paint shirts” to class.
During the Museum’s building project, summer art classes will
be held at the Community Center, located inside the Camp Hill
GIANT Super Food Store, at 3301 Trindle Road, Camp Hill, PA
17011.

movements of his work and how it evolved over time. Using Picasso’s famous work “Three Musicians” as inspiration,
students will create their own mixed media work of art that
expresses their personality.

VanGo! Museum on Wheels:
The mission of VanGo! is to provide exposure to original
works of art for students who may not otherwise visit a museum. At the heart of this project is the belief that a quality
arts education experience introduces viewers to the primary
source, not reproductions. VanGo! teaches all children that
creativity lies within every human being and provides a forum
for further development of important problem-solving and
critical thinking skills.
Look for VanGo! at a variety of community events throughout the spring/summer months. Check www.sqart.org for a
calendar of events. Special thanks to the McCormick Family
Foundation, our 2012 spring/summer community events sponsor for VanGo!
Artist Henri Matisse is probably best known for his bold, colorful cut out works of art. In this class, students will explore the
later works of Matisse, using his art as inspiration to create a
mixed media, watercolor and cut paper collage.

Art to Go!:
SAM’s Art to Go! program introduces students of all ages to
great works of art, important artists and pivotal periods of art
history in your setting. Themed portfolios are arranged by artist, art movement or historical period. Corresponding curriculum includes historical timelines, biographical information and
background information on the reproductions included in each
portfolio.
Art to Go! is an economical and easy-to-use cultural resource.
Portfolios can be rented for a period of 8 weeks; or you can
contract a SAM art educator to facilitate a program at your
site for a nominal fee. Contact the Education Department for
details and fees.
Drop off your registration materials anytime Monday – Friday
between the hours of 9am-5pm.
