Students are encouraged to bring “paint shirts” to class. During the Museum’s building project, summer art classes will be held at the Community Center, located inside the Camp Hill GIANT Super Food Store, at 3301 Trindle Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011. Coiled Clay Pots: Monday, June 18 2pm-4pm and Wednesday, June 20 4pm-5pm for ages 6-12 In this two-part class, students will explore ceramic artists and hand-built clay techniques. COST: $35 for members $55 for non-members Vision of an artist—Picasso: Thursday, July 26 2pm-4pm for ages 6-12 Pablo Picasso is one of the most interesting and diverse artists of all time. In this class, students will examine the different movements of his work and how it evolved over time. Using Picasso’s famous work “Three Musicians” as inspiration, students will create their own mixed media work of art that expresses their personality. COST: $20 for members $35 for non-members painting with water: Thursday, August 9 2pm-4pm for ages 6-12 Watercolors have been used throughout art history, dating back to the cave paintings in Paleolithic times. By examining the works of more modern watercolorists, students will explore watercolor brush techniques and resists, creating their own small still life painting. COST: $20 for members $35 for non-members Wild Beast—MAtisse: Friday, August 10 2pm-4pm for ages 6-12 VanGo! Museum on Wheels: The mission of VanGo! is to provide exposure to original works of art for students who may not otherwise visit a museum. At the heart of this project is the belief that a quality arts education experience introduces viewers to the primary source, not reproductions. VanGo! teaches all children that creativity lies within every human being and provides a forum for further development of important problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Look for VanGo! at a variety of community events throughout the spring/summer months. Check www.sqart.org for a calendar of events. Special thanks to the McCormick Family Foundation, our 2012 spring/summer community events sponsor for VanGo! Artist Henri Matisse is probably best known for his bold, colorful cut out works of art. In this class, students will explore the later works of Matisse, using his art as inspiration to create a mixed media, watercolor and cut paper collage. SAM OFFICE Hours: COST: $20 for members Questions: $35 for non-members Art to Go!: SAM’s Art to Go! program introduces students of all ages to great works of art, important artists and pivotal periods of art history in your setting.
