nonprofits. It's a day to
play! He gets along great with other
dogs, and can run and play for hours. We would love to see this cutie

Stories that make our tails wag!
Buddy was a feral Tom cat who was
brought to MCPAWS in fairly rough
shape. He had clearly been in a few
cat fights and was needing some
medical care.
MCPAWS treated his wounds and
tested him for several different
viruses common in the feral cat
community. Buddy tested positive
for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). FIV is the only non-primate
lentivirus to cause an AIDS-like syndrome, but FIV is not typically fatal
for cats, as they can live relatively healthily as carriers and transmitters
of the disease for many years. Which meant Buddy had to be an indoor
cat, and an only cat.

Buddy had a lot of scars from his
years outside, but he was a very
sweet and affectionate cat. We
worried it might be hard to place
him in a good home. Until the day
his new dad walked in.
A single man came in looking for a
companion cat. He had no other
pets, and wanted an indoor cat.
That was the day he found his best
friend Buddy.

Buddy was adopted, and we were thrilled for him!
Buddy follows his new friend around the house "talking" most the day.
He loves to curl up in the sunspots. The two are very happy they found
each other.

ResQWalk
Use your paws for a cause!
Come join the MCPAWS Book Club! We’ll meet the
first Monday of each month at 6pm in the Idaho
Room at the McCall Library. We’ll read and
discuss books about animals and animal welfare,
non-fiction and fiction. Our next meeting is
Monday, June 1st. We will be discussing Following
Atticus, by Tom Ryan.

MCPAWS Completed the First Low-Cost
Spay/Neuter Clinic of 2015
As part of our dedication to reducing the
overpopulation of unwanted animals,
MCPAWS hosted a low-cost spay/neuter
clinic for cats during the last week in April.
Each week ResQwalk
announces a donation pool
(e.g. $2,500) and in order fo
rescue to receive donations
from the pool, its supporters
simply need to check-in to th
app when they go for a walk

Each walker's distance is
recorded in the user profile a
added to the rescue's weekly
sum. At the end of the week
donations are paid out to the
rescues proportionally to the
total distance walked.
The clinic is subsidized by donations and
grants so that we can offer this service at a
reduced price as a public service.
We were able to spay 5 cats, and neuter 2 cats. MCPAWS would like to
continue offering this service to help with the overpopulation of cats
and dogs in our community.
We are planning on conducting another low-cost Clinic in late June for
dogs. You must be a low-income community member with proof of
low-income status to qualify. Please call 208-634-3647 for more

Having a MCPAWS Dog or Cat
A Message from Rebecca Wallick
There’s a certain cache to having a
MCPAWS dog or cat. Countless
times I’ve had people introduce
themselves by saying, “I have a
MCPAWS dog.” Or cat. Or a couple
of each.
Often, those who adopt a pet from
MCPAWS bring them back for a visit,
which the staff and volunteers love.
It’s gratifying to see a once homeless animal happily enveloped in a
new, forever home. We also enjoy receiving photos of these content
dogs and cats, and posting them to our Facebook page so everyone in
the community can feel good about the happily-ever-after outcome.
It’s what makes our jobs worthwhile.
The other day, we experienced a new twist on this scenario.
We recently took in a Border Collie/German Shorthaired Pointer named
Gracie. A delightful girl, she loves romping with the other shelter dogs
and thrives on attention from people. As usual, once she was ready for
adoption, we posted her photo on our website and Facebook page.
Imagine our delight when on a Saturday morning, through the front
door walks a carbon copy of Gracie, followed by two people. They
explained that they’d seen Gracie on Facebook, and they had her
brother, Wally. They brought treats and toys for Gracie, adding they’d
love for Wally and Gracie to greet each other. Because they already
have another dog (in addition to Wally) at home and are expecting a

baby soon, they weren’t sure they could adopt Gracie, but they wanted
to make sure she found a good home, one where her high energy could
find a healthy outlet.
I was headed for home when they arrived, but I stayed to watch the
reunion of brother and sister. Side by side, they looked nearly identical,
with minor differences in their black and white coats, one tail a bit
curlier than the other, but the same eyes, ears and graceful speed.
After some quick getting reacquainted sniffs, they romped and played
like the siblings they are. It was delightful to watch, and I’m thankful to
those like this couple who even after adopting a MCPAWS animal,
remain part of our community and stay in touch, showing ongoing
concern for all of the dogs and cats who come to the shelter.
