Julie Wrigley and Jeffrey
Gough tied to win the second
go-round with 219 points on A
Little Bossy, by CD Lights, and
Christmas Mate, by Smart Mate,
respectively.

because of a bruised knee, so he
really didn’t get his start until
Januar y,” said Wrigley, who
showed her gelding as a finalist in
the Breeders Invitational Non-Pro
division and as Non-Pro Senior
champion of the same event.
“We always knew he was
ta lented, but he’s gotten so
much more confident,” Wrigley
added.
R.L. Chartier rode A Little
Bossy as a finalist in the NCHA
Super Stakes Open, Novice and
Open Gelding divisions.

Wrigley also qualified for tonight’s
Semi-Finals on Pretty Katz, by Pretty
Boy Cat.
Jeffrey Gough missed qualifying for
the NCHA Futurity Non-Pro Semi-Finals
by half-a-point on Christmas Mate. But
he won the Abilene Spectacular NonPro and Non-Pro Ltd divisions on the
gelding, and was a finalist in both the
Super Stakes and NCHA Derby Non-Pro
Ltd divisions.
“He may not be the prettiest moving
horse, but he’s a great individual,” said
Gough of Christmas Mate, who he
purchased as a yearling at the NCHA
Summer Spectacular Sale and started
himself.
Shannon Hall put the finish on
Christmas Mate, when the gelding was
a late 3-year-old.
“We’ve kind of tag-teamed it and
it works pretty good, when Shannon’s
involved,” said Gough. “I’m still pretty
green and hadn’t shown a whole lot
until this year.”
Gough was a teenager when his
father, Ping Gough, sent out Bobs
Smokin Joe, under trainer John Tolbert,
to win the 1993 NCHA Futurity Open.
“There’s not going to be another like
Bobs Smokin Joe, but this is by far the
best horse we’ve had since him,” said
Gough.
