Ferry Hops on the West Coast Real Ale Trail
Depart from Oban
Follow the island based real ale trail, great range,
independent breweries.
If you’re travelling without a vehicle or
have an accompanying driver, we have
suggestions for a great island based
real ale trail. There are currently 8
microbreweries with a great range of
established ales on the islands of Bute,
Arran, Islay, Colonsay, Mull, Skye
and Lewis. There are also breweries in
Oban, Plockton, Glenfinnan and at the
head of Loch Fyne near Inveraray, all
great stopovers en route to or near our
ferry terminals.
More usually associated with its
world class whiskies, Scotland also
has a long and proud history of
brewing beer with a number of small,
independent breweries using the rich
natural environment and pure waters
to produce excellent beers free from
artificial additives and preservatives.
One of the best ways to experience
many of these delicious ales is by
following our suggested Ferry Hops
Real Ale Trail. Discover the art of
brewing, learn what happens on
behind the scenes and enjoy a taste.

For a trip of a lifetime visit the archipelago of St Kilda,
the remotest part of the British Isles, located in the
Atlantic Ocean, 41 miles/66 km west of Benbecula in
the Outer Hebrides. This is one of only 29 locations in
the world with World Heritage Status for natural and
cultural significance and the islands with exceptional
cliffs and sea stacs form the most important seabird
breeding station in north-west Europe. Puffin season is
from late April to early August, and for gannets, from
April to October. The 1930 evacuation of the local
population ended an extraordinary story of survival.
On arrival in Village Bay, it’s a short transfer by Zodiac
