Setting the Stage for a Bright Future
Built in 1931 by Warner Brothers Studios as a movie
palace, the Warner Theatre in Torrington, Connecticut
was slated for demolition in the early 1980s. The nonprofit Northwest Connecticut Association for the Arts,
Inc. was founded by a group of concerned citizens who
purchased the theatre. After an $8,700,000 renovation
the Warner reopened as a performing arts center in
1983 and restoration of the art deco main theatre was
completed in November 2002.
Today the Warner Theatre is the largest performing
arts center in Northwest Connecticut with over
100,000 patrons attending 170+ events each season.
The Warner Theatre Center for Arts Education, the
theatre’s onsite school for the arts enrolls over 500
students who participate in after-school enrichment
classes, private music/voice lessons and a Summer
Arts Program. An additional 6,000 Connecticut school
children attend live, curricular-based performances
throughout the school year. The Warner Theatre’s
extensive outreach program provides scholarships and
tickets to the area’s underserved population, as well
as to other non-profit organizations and area public
schools.
The Warner Theatre is a shining example of the
ultimate grassroots success story and a beacon of
pride in our community. As an economic force for the
region and a valuable community resource, none
of our accomplishments would be possible without
