A Hero’s Prayer
By Rahim Hutchins
A final farewell to a bleeding, broken past of those who watch over us
The time of the hero has passed the cries of the lost, the weeps of the
living
An endless road of sorrows and our own troubles, unknowingly leading
us up hill
We hang on by a thread, weaving the way for others
We don’t stand on our mistakes but always improve
Our path is not easily travelled
We once were broken
Although hurt, life will never pass us by
We are hurt not dead
So we shall stand
Our will to live, this and only this keeps us breathing
This is our only defense, we move forward
The will to fight, we shall not weep forever
We can only heal, we only heal
Wounded not broken, chipped not shattered
We’ll not be forgotten
We are one but many, and we will be one
Just in the distance you’ll find us children of those that once watched
over us
We are not gothic because we listen to metal
Or heartless because we don’t show our emotions, but they are not
hidden
And in the end out of the pit we will be the heroes
This I promise the non believers
We are the ones that got away
We followed
The foolish lead to the point of no return trying to climb but being
grabbed at the top
Yet still making it barely
You will see in the end
Out of the pit we will be the heroes!
