HAPPY, HAPPY NEW YEAR 2015!!!!!
Our November started out cold, for us, but then turned into the
beautiful weather that Florida is known for. We had a wonderful
Thanksgiving and then the community brought out the Christmas
spirit. The lights were amazing this year, and in fact, each year
we do better and better. So, thank you to all that took the time to
decorate your homes. The winners of the light contest are listed
in this newsletter.
Please remember, if you have a real tree, it must be placed
inside a bag for the community to pick up.
All of us at Winward Lakes and Steiner Communities wish you a
VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR. If you plan on traveling, please be
careful when you are out on the roads. Remember, do not drink
and drive. We want you to return safe and sound.
REMEMBER, the office is closed for New Year’s on January 1st
and there is no garbage pick-up Thursday, January 1st.
We want to thank all who wished us a Merry Christmas, sent us
cards and gave us gifts. We appreciate you thinking of us at
such a busy time of the year.

Capricorn, January will be a great month in a great year for you.
It’s a good time to start and finish new projects.
Work to find emotional harmony and inner
peace, then launch your projects from that place.
Work to establish a stable home base and do
your best to mend family relationships. Finances
are good all month, but they get even better toward the end of
the month – you can’t ask for better financial aspects than you
have now!
Aquarius, this is a time to rest and relax and
look forward to a year of good health,
providing you take care of yourself. Take a
relaxed attitude to life. There’s a lot of good
things in store for you this year, so make
sure you will be able to enjoy them! Pay
attention to those around you and enjoy the benefits of having
loved ones and friends to share good times with. Take care of
your money and look for good investment opportunities that
could reap big rewards later in the year.
According to the 2015 edition of the
Farmers’ Almanac, the winter of 2014–15
will see below-normal temperatures for
about three-quarters of the nation. A
large zone of very cold temperatures will
be found from east of the Continental
Divide east to the Appalachians.
No region will see prolonged spells of
above-normal temperatures; only near
the West and East Coasts will
temperatures average close to normal.
The Southern states will be chilly and wet
all winter.
Over the eastern third of the country, we are expecting an active
storm track with a number of storms delivering copious amounts
of snow and rain. Near-normal precipitation is expected for the
Pacific Northwest, the Southwest States, and Northern Plains,
while below-normal precipitation values are forecast for the
Southwest States as well as the Upper Midwest and the Great
Lakes. The Central and Southern Plains are expected to receive
above-average precipitation.

JANUARY IS NATIONAL BLOOD
DONOR MONTH
You don't need a special reason to give blood.
You just need your own reason.
Some of us give blood because we were asked by a
friend.
Some know that a family member or a friend might need
blood some day.
Some believe it is the right thing to do.
Whatever your reason, the need is constant and your donation is
important for maintaining a healthy and reliable blood supply.
You'll feel good knowing you've helped change a life!

Approximately 5.6 million blood donations are collected by
the Red Cross each year.
Roughly 3.3 million generous volunteer blood donors roll up a
sleeve each year.
More than 8 million transfusable blood products are
distributed each year thanks to the generous donations.
Patients at approximately 2,700 hospitals and transfusion
centers around the country receive Red Cross blood
products.
For more information on donating blood, contact the Tampa Bay
Chapter of the Red Cross at

WHY IS JANUARY 1ST “NEW YEAR’S
DAY?
The tradition of starting the new year on
January 1st dates back to the days of the
Roman Empire. According to historians, it
was Julius Caesar who set January 1st as the first day of the
new year in 46 B.C. Caesar selected January 1st because it
coincided with the festival honoring the Roman God Janus – the
God of new beginnings. But in 567 A.D., the Roman Catholic
Church abolished the celebration of January 1st as New Year’s
Day because of its non-Christian roots. It wasn’t until 1582 that
Pope Gregory XIII re-established January 1st as New Year’s
Day.

The custom of using a baby to symbolize the New Year began in Greece around 600 B.C. The Greeks celebrated their
God of Wine, Dionysus, by parading a baby in a basket to represent the annual rebirth of Dionysus as the spirit of
fertility. The early Egyptians also used the baby as a symbol of rebirth. The use of a baby's image as a banner for New
Year celebrations was brought to America by the Germans, who had used it since the Fourteenth Century.
