They handle freight shipments to over 100 destinations worldwide. The Challenge: MASkargo approached us back in 2003 to create a corporate website to introduce the company to the public, and showcase its full range of services. Since then the website has evolved into an online presence platform to provide valuable services to their customers worldwide. Customer retention stands at 75.52% for 2011. The Result: A solid B2B (business to business) online presence platform that effectively serves their customers. The front page provides quick access to 3rd party e-business applications, as well as shortcuts to various services provided by MASkargo. We provided a complete end-to-end service, from website development and custom web applications to Internet infrastructure and retainer service. We handle all aspects of the online presence, enabling MASkargo to concentrate on running their business, not their website. FlyFirefly (Firefly) www.fireflyz.com.my Firefly is Malaysia’s First Community Airline, employing a fleet of ATR-72 aircrafts to connect select destinations within the Malaysia - Thailand and Indonesia tourism triangle. The Challenge: Based on our previous track record with Malaysia Airlines and MASkargo, Firefly wanted to launch their corporate website fast. We crafted a fun and brilliant online presence, deployed and managed it within 4 weeks. The Result: Visitors are staying longer on the site (36% increase) 2 months after the re-launch. A corporate website that focusses on their promotions and aggressive marketing campaigns, with a solid integration with their 3rd party, industry leading online booking engine. The current website, version 3 now features a much cleaner visual design, semantically valid and web-standard compliant markup, and much improved content presentation style. 23 CASE STUDIES Export-Import Bank of Malaysia Berhad www.exim.com.my EXIM Bank of Malaysia was established to promote reverse investment and export of strategic sectors such as capital goods, infrastructure projects, shipping, value added manufactured products and to facilitate the entry of Malaysian companies to new markets. The Challenge: EXIM Bank engaged us to undertake a major revamp of their website, in line with their new branding and marketing drive. They wanted a fresh new look on a solid content management platform, to take the to greater heights. The Result: We worked closely with client in every stage of the development, and delivered fresh, dynamic website on the award-winning Drupal platform. Suruhanjaya Pengangkutan Awam Darat (S.P.A.D.) www.spad.gov.my s The Land Public Transport Commission (S.P.A.D.) is a statutory body officially established to ensure a safe, reliable, responsive, accessible, planned, integrated, affordable and sustainable land public transport system to enhance economic growth and quality of life. The Challenge: SPAD engaged us to revamp their online presence with multilingual content and user-focussed design. The Result: We leveraged on the award-winning Drupal 7 platform with search engine optimisation, and introduced tabbed navigation which serves the right content to the right user segment. 24 CASE STUDIES BIMB Holdings Berhad (BHB) www.bimbholdings.com BIMB Holdings Berhad (“BHB”) is an investment holding company which operates along Islamic principles. It holds broad appeal for investors and customers because of its reputation for ethical practices. BHB was incorporated in Malaysia on 20 March 1997 and is listed on the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad. The Challenge: As a public listed company and parent company of Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad and Takaful Malaysia, BHB approached us to design, develop and maintain their first corporate website to be completed within 4 weeks. Not content with having just a static corporate brochure, BHB wanted a website platform to deliver real value to their investors and provide up to date information on BHB for all. The Result: We worked closely with the top management in coming up with the overall concept, we delivered well within the deadline. The newly launched BHB website now provides comprehensive information about the company, as well as real-time stock information and announcements directly from Bursa Malaysia. A notable highlight is the Knowledge Base section, featuring important explanation of Islamic finance and insurance terminologies for the benefit of the general public. Destination Resorts & Hotel www.drh.com.my Established in 2010 by the Malaysian Government’s investment arm, Khazanah Nasional Berhad, Destination Resorts and Hotels (DRH) is a strategic owner and developer of world class premier destinations. It’s portfolio include Teluk Datai, Desaru Coast, Puteri Harbour and the recently opened Legoland Malaysia. The Challenge: As part of their rebranding exercise, DRH commissioned us to carry out the new direction for an effective online presence. The focus is to showcase their investment portfolios with sophisticated elegance. 81% more visits from search engines (Jan & Feb 2013 vs Nov & Dec 2012) The Result: We worked closely with the branding agency to realise their new branding direction, and deployed the fullly-functioning website on the award-winning Drupal 7 platform. The website now integrates with the new Vendor Management System (VMS) and DRH’s social media networks. 25 CASE STUDIES Rangkaian Pengangkutan Integrasi Deras Sdn Bhd (RapidKL) www.myrapid.com.my RapidKL provides an integrated public transport system in the Klang Valley incorporating rail and bus services. Incorporated in July 2004 and operational since November the same year, RapidKL operates the Ampang Line LRT (previously known as STAR-LRT) from Sentul Timur to Ampang and Sri Petaling, and the Kelana Jaya Line LRT (previously known as PUTRA-LRT) from Kelana Jaya to Gombak. RapidKL buses operate in 165 routes covering 980 housing estates in the Klang Valley daily. The Challenge: The Result: Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana) commissioned us to revamp the RapidKL website into a one-stop portal for public transport. In essence, they want it to be the starting point into it’s subsidiaries, which also includes Rapid Penang, Panorama Langkawi and Prasarana website itself. This also entails coming up with the branding, design and custom applications. Based on inputs and extensive discussions with the client, we produced a functional design that accommodates the wealth of information that RapidKL needs to communicate to the general public. This includes route maps, ticketing and fares for buses, LRT lines and Monorail. We also developed the Journey Planner, which enables users to search for the best routes from the origin to their destination. Destination Resorts & Hotel (DRH) www.littleredcube.com Little Red Cube is DRH’s new and exciting 150,000 sqft mixed-use shopping and entertainment destination in Puteri Harbour. It is home to Hello Kitty Town and Little Big Club, as well as the 283 room Traders Hotel. The Challenge: Fresh off the recently launched revamp for their corporate website, DRH commissioned us to continue the creative momentum for their latest property, Little Red Cube. The website must showcase the destination for the public, as well as attract interest from prospective tenants. The Result: We worked closely with the client in fleshing out the information architecture and content, with a completely fresh and dynamic design. 26 CASE STUDIES Panorama Langkawi Sdn Bhd (PLSB) www.panoramalangkawi.com Panorama Langkawi Sdn Bhd (PLSB), is a wholly owned subsidiary of Syarikat Prasarana Berhad (SPNB) and was registered on 28th September 2002. It was formerly known as Famous Venue Sdn Bhd and changed its name to Panorama Langkawi Sdn Bhd on 29th March 2003. It was incorporated under the Company Act 1965 on 10 October 2003 by Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (SPNB) as an operator for the Langkawi Cable car. The Challenge: Happy with our work with the MYrapid website, Prasarana commissioned us to revamp the website for Panorama Langkawi in line with their recent rebranding and the new tagline “Welcome to Happiness”. The objective was to create a beautiful website , showcasing the unique vista afforded by the cable car and befitting Langkawi’s status as a major tourist attraction in Malaysia. Organic search traffic increased from 28.77% to 48.64% in five months. The Result: Drawing inspiration from websites benchmarked, we proposed a visually-stunning website, complete with added-features made only possible by the awardwinning CMS, Drupal at the base. The new website is SEO-ready, has a beautiful photo gallery and integrated with Panorama Langkawi’s social media. The Result: We used visual tabs with icons to represent the navigation, with attractive banners designed for promotions and campaigns. 27 CASE STUDIES Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana) www.prasarana.com.my Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana) is a wholly-owned Government company established by the Ministry of Finance, set up to facilitate, undertake and expedite public infrastructure projects approved by the Government. Prasarana and its group of companies are also assetowners and operators of several public transport providers, namely the Ampang and Kelana Jaya lines, KL Monorail system, bus operations in Klang Valley and Penang, as well as the cable car services in Langkawi. The Challenge: The Result: Continuing on the revamp initiative beginning with MYrapid and Panorama Langkawi, Prasarana engaged us to revamp their corporate website. They objective was a fresh look and feel, with customercentric information be made available easily. The revamped website is one of the most visual we have designed so far, fully supported by the awardwinning Drupal CMS at the backend. We have also integrated the real-time Service Status and Journey Planner from MYrapid to add more value and function to the website. Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) www.mic.org.my The Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) is one of the oldest political parties of Malaysia , established in August 1946 to represent the Indian community. It is now one of the core component party in Malaysia’s current ruling alliance, Barisan Nasional. The Challenge: Gearing up to the next General Election, MIC requires a new multi-lingual online presence (English and Tamil) to provide valuable information to the public and more specifically the Indian community. It also has interactive content from their social networks, as well as online registration for membership and feedback (Aduan Rakyat). 77% new visitors from search engines. Almost daily submissions for Aduan Rakyat. The Result: We mapped out the information architecture to accommodate MIC’s new drive to serve the Indian community, and deployed in on the Drupal 7 platform for the client to manage content updates themselves. MIC can now communicate latest news, events and videos easily and more effectively than before. 28 CASE STUDIES Ida Lundberg www.idalundberg.com Ida Lundberg is a young Swedish-Malaysian fashion designer specializing in women’s Prêt-àPorter and costume made Haute Couture dresses. Her collection was launched in the spring of 2011 at the grand Hotel in Stockholm, and can now be found in seven countries on three continents. The Challenge: As a fashion designer, Ida has been very particular on getting the right website to show her collections to her potential customers. The Result: Ida now has the online presence she needs to connect with her customers and showcase her exquisite designs. MASkargo Logistics Sdn Bhd www.maskargologistics.com.my A fully owned subsidiary of MASkargo, MASkargo Logistics (previously known as Pengangkutan Kargo Udara MAS) handles trucking and cargo logistics for MASkargoʼs world-first sea-to-air transhipment service (called I-Port). They are also recognised as a fullyfledged Multimodal Transport Operator (MTO) by the Malaysian Ministry of Finance. The Challenge: As a subsidiary of MASkargo, MASkargo Logistics wanted a simple yet stylish online presence, independent from the latter. The website should showcase their capabilities as a logistics services provider, as well as provide a central contact directory for their customers nationwide. The Result: We crafted a simple yet elegant website that accentuates MASkargo Logisticsʼ new branding strategies and provides valuable information for its customers. We also handle their website and email hosting needs, on our enterprise-level Primultra hosting platform. With a retainer service, MASkargo Logistics enjoy a hassle-free web experience, letting them focus on their business and their customers. 29 CASE STUDIES Millennium Freight (M) Sdn Bhd www.milleniumfreight.com.my A pioneer who has grown into the premier logistics company in Malaysia with multi-modal capabilities offering a wide and complete range of services. The Challenge: The client wanted a more professional website to help cement their place as an international logistics company. They wanted to showcase their services, as well as their extension network. The Result: We created a functional website that has all the features of a fully-fledged website. Notable features include a photo gallery featuring company events, and an interactive map with details of their offices worldwide. Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana) www.lrtextension.com Prasarana’s proposed extensions to the Kelana Jaya and Ampang LRT Lines, passing through 25 new stations and covering a distance of 34.7km. The Challenge: Based on our track records with the MYrapid, Panorama Langkawi and Prasarana’s own website, LRT Extension website needs the same professional design treatment as the rest. The Result: We crafted an informative website that encourages public participation with an online feedback system. 30 CASE STUDIES Human Voyage (M) Sdn Bhd www.mtbmalaysia.com Langkawi International Mountain Bike Challenge (LIMBC) 2012 is slated to be Asia’s most promising and exciting mountain bike stage race (some say it’s the hottest too!). Langkawi, the beautiful ‘Island of Legends’ off the west coast of Peninsula Malaysia offers just about everything for the adventurous and those seeking major MTB fun in the sun. LIMBC attracts every level of rider - male and female – the young and not so young – regardless of whether you are amongst the worlds best UCI MTB World Cup regulars or an enthusiastic ‘Weekend Warrior’ looking for the best in experience and adventure – Langkawi welcomes you all! The Challenge: The event organiser, Human Voyage needed an online presence fast to get the word out for this event. And they wanted a complete Registration system with online payment. The Result: We crafted a simple but engaging one-page website to announce the event to potential participants and sponsors, while developing a fully interactive and dynamic website complete with integrations with a local payment gateway for a fully automated Registration system. Veterinary Association Malaysia (VAM) www.vam.org.my Veterinary Association Malaysia (VAM) is a Malaysian-registered association with a mission to attain a high standard of professionalism contributing towards the enhancement of animal health, welfare, animal production and public health. The Challenge: This being their first online presence, VAM wanted to establish a visually attractive and functional website, geared towards introducing them to the public and providing valuable information and service to their professional members. The Result: We combined an audience-based information architecture and transformed it into a functional and informative website build on top of the award-winning Content Management System, Drupal. Client Overview Suruhanjaya Pengangkutan Awam Darat or also known as S.P.A.D. which is directly under the purview of the Prime Minister of Malaysia was established in 2010 with the gazetting of the Land Public Transport Act. Its main central role is to improve road, rail-based public and freight transport in the country. S.P.A.D also has enforcement powers in close cooperation’s with other enforcement agencies such as Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and The Road Transport Department. S.P.A.D is responsible to propose policies and plans in relation to or affecting land public transport, and develop strategies in line with the approved policies and plans with a view to achieving a safe, reliable, efficient, responsive, accessible, planned, integrated and sustainable land public transport, while ensuring the provision of affordable services for the carriage of passengers and competitive services for the carriage of goods. The Challenge: S.P.A.D had approached us to come up with an online solution for its TR1Ma tyres voucher distribution initiatives; align with the Prime Minister of Malaysia’s ideas to help taxi drivers and thus raise the standard of taxi service in Malaysia. This new system aims to record taxi drivers and 675 authorized dealers/ workshops information, and all related information to voucher request/ release, voucher redemption and payment to tyre manufacturers that have been engaged in this initiative. S.P.A.D’s concerns was to ensure the whole voucher processing flow is secured with sequential voucher numbers and security codes, and valid to be released only to the approximately 68,383 qualified taxi drivers (data derived from SIKAP database) to avoid any fraudulent issues. Bespoke Solution: TR1Ma Voucher Processing System for Teksi Rakyat 1 Malaysia (Tyres Distribution) V1.0 and V2.0 Platform: Linux Language: PHP 5.3 Framework: CakePHP Database: MySQL The major challenges faced were to ensure the new updated records (received by batches) from SIKAP database is mirrored exactly to TR1Ma database without any glitches or mistakes. The Result: The TR1Ma System developed has proven to ease and sped up the voucher distribution processes during the TR1Ma initiative. From the outstanding outcome of the TR1Ma System V1.0, we have been entrusted to further develop and enhance TR1Ma System V2.0 which is currently in use for this year’s initiative. Both systems are still actively in use by S.P.A.D and manufacturers; and fully supported by us. 33 CASE STUDIES Myrapid Journey Planner System Rangkaian Pengangkutan Integrasi Deras Sdn. Bhd. (RapidKL) Client Overview Rangkaian Pengangkutan Integrasi Deras Sdn. Bhd. or in its other familiar name, RapidKL is the leading public transport operator in Lembah Klang, Malaysia under the subsidiary of Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad; a wholly owned Government company. It was incorporated in July 2003 and operational since November the same year. RapidKL provides an integrated public transport system in the Klang Valley incorporating rail and bus services including Ampang Line LRT (previously known as STAR-LRT) and the Kelana Jaya Line LRT (previously known as PUTRA-LRT). As of today, RapidKL also have buses which operate in 165 routes covering 980 housing estates in the Klang Valley. Bespoke Solution: MYrapid Journey Planner System Platform: Linux Language: PHP 5.3 and Python 2.7 Framework: Kohana Database: MySQL and PostgreSQL The Challenge: Journey Planner is a result from RapidKL’s request to enhance their existing portal (hint: which was also developed by us!) functionality. RapidKL wanted to enrich public experiences with their services by having an extensive and thorough tool that will allow the public to search and view bus/rail routes, travel fares and bus/rail interchanges. The Journey Planner system is fully developed by our in-house experts in support of this great effort. The Result: Leveraging on the use of the state-of–the-art Google Map API (and python script to convert existing routes into validated GTFS data) to visualize geospatial data, build innovative location-based apps and customized maps; an updated version of map-based Journey Planner is now available (via MyRapid portal) for the public to view the travel path for the selected chosen routes. It also includes the travel fares for each interchange required and total amount of fares to complete the journey. The Journey Planner has earned its reputation for being Malaysia’s one-stop public information that coordinates and integrates bus/ rail transportation services within Klang Valley thus taking public transportation services to new heights. 34 CASE STUDIES Online Database Management System SEQU Offshore Safety Sdn. Bhd. Client Overview SEQU Offshore Safety Sdn. Bhd. (SEQU) is a fully PETRONAS/PSC HSE Shell and Exxon approved safety training company based in Malaysia. They are specialists in providing safety training for the Oil & Gas industry; with an existing clientbase of more than 900 Oil & Gas companies and increasing yearly. The Challenge: SEQU Online Database Management System (Phase 1) is a customized product specifically made by us to assist SEQU’s short term business needs and requirements. The Phase 1 development in its early stage was to offer a more structured, reliable and easier to manage system than the original manual method used (in Excel format) without disrupting their original business processes. Bespoke Solution: SEQU Online Database Management System (Phase 1) Platform: Linux Language: PHP 5.3 Framework: CakePHP Database: MySQL 5.5 The biggest challenge faced was to convert their 19,572 existing non-standardized training and certification records for the period of 4 years into a secured online database repository. We had to convert and perform data cleansing from 204 excel files into MySQL data format. The Result: SEQU Administrator can now have the ease of mind to record all the training details by merely accessing the system and uploading the Excel files. Meanwhile, SEQU’s large clientbase individuals and companies can simply access the system themselves and do a quick check on previous training and certification details; all in one user-friendly system. 35 CASE STUDIES Sistem e-Keahlian YGMB Yayasan Guru Malaysia Berhad Client Overview Yayasan Guru Malaysia Berhad (YGMB) which was previously known as Yayasan Permodalan Guru Kebangsaan (YPGKB) was incorporated on March 7, 1994 under the Companies Act 1965 as a ‘Company Limited by Guarantee’. The desire to stablish YGMB is to consolidate and mobilize all educators and members of the Malaysian Education Service into one organization based on economic and welfare. This will be an important vehicle to enhance the status and dignity of educators and to subsequently promote the welfare of educators, especially members of the Foundation with the assistance that includes education, health, charity/donations, death and disaster and so on. Bespoke Solution: Sistem e-Keahlian YGMB (eYGMB) Platform: Linux Language: PHP 5.3 Database: MySQL 5.5 The Challenge: The Result: Initially, YGMB had been running on an old DBASEbased system which holds a very limited feature for any sort of enhancement over-time. This is where we came in and proposed a new end-to-end system to replace the existing ‘considered-obsolete’ system. Sistem Keahlian YGMB is a fully PHP-based application that is custom-made by our in-house experts, tailored to best fit the business needs of YGMB. This system has proven to be of great use to YGMB in managing their daily business activities which includes, processing member’s application online, review of financial statements, payment receipts and disbursement, members profile updates and more. 36 CASE STUDIES Sistem Daftar Pembekal Jabatan Kemajuan Masyarakat (KEMAS) Client Overview Jabatan Kemajuan Masyarakat or widely known as KEMAS was established in 1946 which in a period of 57 years, it has evolved in fulfilling its role in national development. Starting from its involvement in addressing various problems arising from World War II, the role and function of this department has grown to prevention and rehabilitation services in social issues and community development. As one government agency that plays an important role in social development, it has been in place under different Ministries and to date; under Kementerian Kebajikan Masyarakat Malaysia. Bespoke Solution: Sistem Daftar Pembekal (SDP) Platform: Linux Language: PHP 5.3 Database: MySQL The Challenge: Looking back at KEMAS’s initial requirements to keep track of all their respective registered vendors which were recorded in Excel format; we came up with the proposition to develop the online Sistem Daftar Pembekal. The biggest challenge was to keep track of existing vendor’s locations (by state) and their accumulated project value recorded on a yearly basis. The Result: The user-friendly SDP tool specifically tailored-made for KEMAS had managed to efficiently enable KEMAS’s Procurement team to keep track of projects done by selected vendors, generate reports based on tender categories, managing tenders, tagging vendors (black/white list) and many more. It has proven to be a complete solution for KEMAS, as it serves its purpose to be the centre for vendor inventory. 37 CASE STUDIES Vendor Management System Destination Resorts and Hotels Client Overview DRH or Destination Resorts and Hotels, is the strategic owner and developer of world class premier destination which was created in 2010 by the Malaysian Government’s Investment arm, Khazanah Nasional Berhad. It is DRH vision to transform Malaysia’s tourism landscape, by delivering commercially sustainable resort destination which fulfil the needs and desired of an increasingly discerning global tourism market. The Challenge: Vendor Management System had been introduced by us as a best fit short term solution to resolve DRH’s difficulties in handling their contract and procurement processes. Our solution provides convenient, flexible and customized programs to fulfil DRH’s needs. Conventional process has been translated into electronic processes in which it allows DRH and its vendors to communicate efficiently and effectively through the system. The biggest challenge we had was, making sure the system is reliable and effective to not only DRH’s administrators but also to the vendors, without losing the mportant functionality of the existing manual process. Bespoke Solution: DRH Vendor Management System (VMS) Platform: Linux Language: PHP 5.3 Framework: CakePHP Database: MySQL The Result: The Vendor Management System developed has proven to be a very significant tool for DRH Administrator to manage their vendor’s records online; from Registration, Pre-Qualification, and Invitation and up-to Evaluation processing; making sure DRH are selecting the best vendors to fulfil its vision. 38 CASE STUDIES iRELA Reporting System Kementerian Dalam Negeri Client Overview RELA, or Ikatan Relawan Rakyat, is the People’s Volunteer Corporations that operates under Malaysia’s Home Affairs Ministry, or otherwise known as Kementerian Dalam Negeri (KDN). RELA which was created in 1972 has a wide-ranged background of its members; Malaysian citizens who volunteer to serve, and they have the power to carry firearms, arrest individuals, and enter premises without permits. Currently, there are 480,023 members of Rela. Any Malaysian citizen can join – there are no educational or physical requirements, and there are no background or criminal checks on those who join. Bespoke Solution: iRELA Reporting System Platform: Linux Language: PHP 5.3 Database: MySQL The Challenge: iRELA Reporting System or otherwise known as “Sistem Maklumat iRELA – Modul Laporan” had been introduced by us as a best fit short term solution to resolve KDN-RELA’s issues with their existing system specifically on reporting. The biggest challenge we had was, to identify the affected tables from the existing Database and find a way to re-arrange the structure and optimize query response time. A different set of Database structure had to be constructed and existing records from Oracle Database is converted to MySQL formatting; align with KDN-RELA’s future redevelopment needs and decisions. The Result: The fully web-based system exists to assist KDN-RELA to specifically generate, view, print and extract critical reporting (to Excel format) from the existing iRELA Database (Oraclebased). SIKAP System Enhancements of Operator License (OL), Vehicle Permit (VP) and Had Usia Language: ASP Database: MySQL The Challenge: The initial SIKAP system owned by S.P.A.D. was developed to manage public transportation’s details and licensing information. However, S.P.A.D. had issues with the Vehicle Permit (VP) expiry date which does not tally with the current Operator License (OL) expiry date automatically. S.P.A.D had approached us for assistance to consolidate the information between VP and OL module. Our developers had to enhance the licensing renewal process to automatically update related VP expiry dates and match it with the new OL expiry dates; taking into considerations of the vehicle’s age limit (from Had Usia) calculations for actual expiry date. The same process goes for new license applications. We also had to amend the reporting module to reflect all the changes and enhancements made. The biggest challenge was to actually understand the whole system’s data structure and process flow prior to making any enhancement changes. The Result: The enhanced version of the SIKAP System done by us had proven to be of great use and assistance to S.P.A.D. Administrators; minimizing work-effort by automating updates and calculations from entity relationship to better manage the licensing information and enforcement. 40 CASE STUDIES Public Transportation Terminal Information System Suruhanjaya Pengangkutan Awam Darat (S.P.A.D.) However, the functionality and user interface design needed more twist to match S.P.A.D.’s vision of the completed PTTIS system for public use. S.P.A.D. approached us to further enhance the initial PTTIS towards a more user-friendly version for public access. Additional PHP coding was added in to enable the PTTIS system to filter locations, terminals and transportation type available via a drop down list for an easier searching functionality. Google Analytics were also embedded for S.P.A.D.’s analysis and reporting needs.
