About Leisi parish
Leisi parish is located in the northern
part of Saaremaa, near the Soela strait
which lies between Saaremaa and
Hiiumaa.
The municipality consists of one small
borough Leisi and 53 villages. Main
active areas are Leisi center (there is Leisi
High School), Pärsama, Karja and
Metsküla.
Distance from Tallinn is about 200km (45h) and from Tartu about 320km (7-8h).
Distance from county center Kuressaare
is 40km (30min) and 55km (40min) from
the port of Kuivastu.
Port of Triigi is located 4km from Leisi
center. The port services ferryboat traffic
between Saaremaa and Hiiumaa, also
smaller cargo ships, launches and yachts.
22% of the parish area is used for
agriculture and ca 64% is covered by
forest. The main business sectors in Leisi are agriculture, forestry and wood
processing and tourism. Fishery has played a big role historically, but in
recent years has declined.
