Beat It. donation bags. WOMEN LEADING THE FIGHT AGAINST HEART DISEASE. This year, our Bag It. Beat It. goal is to collect over 1 million bags in September, while raising awareness of women’s fight against heart disease. In the UK, coronary heart disease kills more than twice as many women as breast cancer. All of us have women in our lives who might be at risk, so our research is more important than ever. The great news is that every bag donated can help save lives. Shell Williams, from Wolverhampton, was born with a prolapsed mitral valve. In January 2014 she discovered that she needed surgery to repair the valve. “I’ve got two kids and I was working at the time; it changed my whole life. My daughter always says to people ‘The British Heart Foundation saved my mummy’s life they are amazing!’ Without your research, I would not be here right now and wouldn’t see my children grow up. Without more people donating items and fundraising the research wouldn’t be possible. I encourage everyone to do what they can so more families can keep their loved ones.” 28,000 1 in 4 That’s 77 Or 3 BUT WITH YOUR HELP THE FIGHT AGAINST HEART DISEASE IS IN THE BAG women die from heart attacks each year in the UK. women on average per day. every hour. women die of heart and circulatory disease in the UK. For over 50 years we’ve pioneered research that’s transformed the lives of millions of people living with heart disease. Our work has been central to the discoveries of vital treatments that are changing the fight against heart disease. But heart and circulatory disease still kills around one in four people in the UK, stealing them away from their families and loved ones.
