It’s Showtime!
By Mike Rey, MOCSEM President
Well the time has finally come, and here we are just days before the biggest event in
my tenure here! Our show this year has taken off like a rocket ship and so has our
club. When I said I want this to be the greatest year ever for MOCSEM, I guess you
can refer to the old quote, "Be Careful what you wish for..." But this is a good thing!
In my opinion this is by far the best year we have ever had in every area possible,
with Mustang Memories being the major Highlight. It isn't even here yet, and I wish I
had more time to get more things done and organized. Somehow, someway we
always pull through. This show is going to be amazing. We will have major media
coverage from all of the Mustang publications, Motor Trend, Auto Week, etc.
Hopefully a couple of TV news stations and local papers will also be at our event. It is
shaping up to be the best show most of us have ever seen.

The Accelerator
About the Club
The Mustang Owners Club of Southeastern Michigan (MOCSEM) was founded in November 1975 by a group of individuals with
the desire to protect and preserve the Ford Mustang as one of the most attractive and fun filled cars ever made available. We
are enthusiasts of all ages with a love affair of the many generations of America’s Premiere Pony Car. Whether it’s a coupe,
convertible or fastback from 1964½ to the 2005 GT or the 2007 Cobra, we love them all. The mission of club members is to
collect, restore and preserve the history of the Mustang along with the stories of the people and the roles that they played in
making this one of the great cars of the 20th Century. Although ownership is not a requirement for membership, your
enthusiasm, expertise and and/or love of the automobile are most welcome.
Many of our club members own one or more Mustangs in varying body styles, models and years. Club members are always
exchanging information, providing sources for parts, literature and helpful hints for restoring or maintaining their Mustangs. Our
members are a diverse group of individuals, located throughout Southeastern Michigan and all share a great appreciation for the
Ford Mustang. Our general membership meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Our monthly newsletter,
The Accelerator, provides the members with reports on club activities, technical information, advertisements and business
service locations and more. Some club activities include car shows, picnics, sporting events, cruise nights and technical
sessions.

August is upon us, the busiest month of the show season. We
start out with the tour of the Flat Rock Assembly plant on
Thursday, August 5th. The plant is allowing us a few more
spots per tour so that anyone who was already on the waiting
list can now attend. The plant is also allowing us to hold a
cruise-in at the plant between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm so you
can come and hang out with the club while you wait for your
tour to start. This will take place in the visitor’s lot at the
Admin building. Tours are at 9:30 am and 12:30 pm. We
recommend that you arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the
start of your tour. For plant safety reasons you must wear
closed, comfortable shoes—no open toe, heelless or high
heels. You must wear long pants and a long sleeved shirt.
You will not be allowed on the tour if you do not adhere to
these rules. No exceptions.
The tour is just a warm-up for MOCSEM’s biggest event of the
year, the Mustang Memories All Ford Car Show and Swap
Meet which takes place at Ford World Headquarters on
Sunday, August 8th. We’re counting on MOCSEM members to
show up in big numbers this year, so please try to make it out
there and show your support for MOCSEM and the charities
we support. Please visit www.mocsem.com for late breaking
news about the show.
If you looked at the calendar for August, you might be
confused about a couple events. There is a car show at
Culver’s in Westland on the 11th and an ice cream social on
the 15th. This is not an error. The ice cream social is a regular
MOCSEM event and the car show on the 11th is a show that
Culver’s is putting on that is open to the public. Culver’s loves
having us out there so we encourage you to attend both
events.
Our regular 3rd Thursday Cruise-In will be held at the A&W
Drive-In in Berkley the Thursday before the Woodward Dream
Cruise. This will be a great way to warm up for the big event
and A&W is offering a special menu just for cruisers. And
don’t forget that Classic Design Concepts and MRT are both
having pre-cruise events in the days prior to the Dream
Cruise.
It’s Showtime!
…continued from Page 1
Major sponsors have been added such as Steeda, ROUSH
and more. We have the amazing honor of having the winner
of the Mustang Dream Giveaway accepting his keys to the 2
cars at our show! And just in case you forgot, the show is
being held at the Ford World Headquarters! What more can
we possibly ask for besides great weather all day and some
more help with parking and security? The product raffle will
far surpass any in the past, Ford executives will be on the
grounds, etc. I cannot say enough about our show this year.
I cannot state this enough that we need to be as close to
perfect as possible. EVERYONE is watching us on this one.
But I have faith and trust that our club will once again bond
together to pull off the greatest show on earth! So Stay tuned
next month for hopefully the best article and news I can
possibly report!
OK, I am back to work on the show. These are the final days,
and there is still months of stuff to be done. I would also like
to ask that please, especially if you are a club member, bring
your car out to our show and support the club we all love so
much. We have 400 members and usually only get 100 cars
out to the show from club. I would like to see that number
doubled this year. So I hope to see everyone at the "Greatest
Show on Earth" Mustang Memories 2010!
MOCSEM Invades MIS!
By Mike Rey, MOCSEM President
The Woodward Dream Cruise takes place on Saturday the
21st. MOCSEM will again have dedicated parking at Mustang
Alley on 9 Mile in Ferndale. The exact location has not been
finalized at this point, so keep watching www.mocsem.com
for more information.
Rounding out the month is the car show at the NMCA Muscle
Car Nationals at Milan Dragway on the 28 th and 29th.
MOCSEM is the host club for this show and we are still in
need of a few volunteers to work at the show. If you haven’t
already, please consider signing up to help at
www.mocsem.com or by contacting Craig Zygmunt. MOCSEM
receives a portion of the show proceeds so your efforts at the
show benefit MOCSEM and the charities we support.
The last thing we want everyone to be aware of is a change of
location for the September General Meeting. Classic Design
Concepts in Novi has graciously invited us to hold the
September general meeting in their showroom and they’re
even providing dinner. This is a great way to check out the
awesome products available from CDC, a huge supporter of
MOCSEM. The August meeting will be held at the normal
location, Hawthorne Valley.
MOCSEM Members on the Oval at MIS
All I can say is WOW! What an event! We all knew the Onsted
Kiwanis show at MIS would be cool, but it exceeded all of our
expectations to say the least. We had 88 cars registered and
that's with a number of cancellations. With that being said if
we can have a turnout of 88 cars at Onsted, I would love to
see 200 MOCSEM members at our OWN show at World
Headquarters on August 8th!

Back to Onsted and MIS, In my tenure with the club, besides
our own Mustang Memories Event, I do not think any other
event has topped this one. What a weekend! All MOCSEM
members were treated like royalty from the second we pulled
in on Friday night until we left on Saturday night. Another
special "Thank You" to Brian Ahern and John Springer and
their whole staff, a very well organized and very well run
event all weekend! To drive on the track was simply amazing
and a ton of fun. When we all got out afterwards I think we all
just felt as if we had just won a NASCAR Race!
My Mustang Saved My Life – Twice
By Katie Haddad, MOCSEM Member
If you missed this experience, I will be working with the staff
at Onsted to make this happen again! I would like to state
and I am sure that everyone in attendance there this
weekend will back me up, this event alone was well worth the
yearly membership dues alone! Amazing time, amazing
people and a ton of fun that none of us will ever forget!
What Being in a Car Club Means
By Mike Rey, MOCSEM President
Club Members Help Get Ken Janus back on the Road
I cannot express how PROUD I am of our car club, over the
last month especially. I mean it started in Carlisle with Gary
Kohn breaking down on the freeway, then a new member's
car having problems at the Downriver Cruise, then a couple
with a '65 Mustang had a tailight problem at the Port Huron
Cruise, then our VP threw his Alternator Belt while going
around the track at MIS. Each and every time there was
always a ton of assistance and club members stepping up to
assist and make things right for all of our fellow members!
I joined MOCSEM in April but I have been coming to the club
meetings since January and have loved it ever since. I have
loved mustangs for as long as i can remember. My first car
was a yellow 2004 Mustang GT, my 17th birthday present. I
was so sad when I had to give it back because it was a lease,
so I told myself that I would get another one someday.
That's what I did. I worked hard to save up enough money to
get one, and I finally did. I got my orange and lime green
baby. After having it for just over one year I got in a bad car
accident when a lady hit me right in the drivers side. I ended
up with a closed head injury and a really bad back ache. Then
my baby got fixed and I got it back and I was so happy. Then
exactly 2 years and 13 days from the first accident I got in
another really, really bad car accident when a man ran
through a stop sign and crossed over 4 lanes doing
approximately 60 mph and ran into the drivers side of my
Mustang AGAIN. This time I came out with about 20
injuries, but the worst were a broken neck and being
paralyzed. Sitting in the hospital for 20 days stunk too!
I have to say if I hadn't been in that Mustang I probably
wouldn't be here today. It saved my life. Twice. I love that car.
And so here I am today able to walk, still in a lot of pain most
of the time but I'm alive thanks to my 2007 Mustang GT.
THAT is what this club is all about and I am VERY PROUD and
HONORED to say I am President of an amazing club with an
outstanding Board of Directors and the BEST members a club
could ever dream of having! I walk very proudly and hold my
head up high and proudly state we are MOCSEM! Thank you
all for making this club what a club is supposed to be! Just
witnessing all this and taking it all in first hand is my personal
paycheck, that we are all working as a team and making
positive things happen! And putting us at the TOP and I mean
in the TOP 5 Mustang Clubs in the U.S.! Please keep up the
good work and make me and all fellow members proud, and
lets put on the best Mustang Memories show anyone has
ever seen at the Ford World Headquarters on Sunday,
August 8th!

a couple with an older Mustang that the tail-lights were not
working. Joe Armstrong and Julie worked on it and fixed it for

1:00 we get to go on the track again.
PHIL SMITH: Phil discussed the layout for the show. We will
be taking money from the people while still in their cars this
year. They will get bracelets so security knows who has paid.

special potty just for MOCSEM. Registration closes at 11am.
PRESIDENT: Many thanks to Phil for all the hard work and
