At various times during the year, this will also include plants of Phal. bellina, Phal. violacea and hybrids with their breeding background. These will be available on a First Come-First Serve basis – all will be One-of-a-Kind plants, not mericlones. We’ve also expanded our collection of miniature Chinese Cymbidiums, miniature Vandaceous and miniature Dendrobiums – all of which grow & flower happily with our Phals. These are now listed these in their own sections. Most plants are in 2.7” pots as first or second bloomers unless otherwise noted as being fully mature in 4” pots PLEASE NOTE: Stock quantities of 6 or fewer are noted as Limited ~ Single plants are noted as (1) ORDERING INFORMATION FOR OUR MAIL ORDER CLIENTS: In the winter or during inclement weather, shipments may be delayed pending more moderate weather conditions. SIZE DEFINITIONS: F = Currently in flower (single spike unless otherwise noted) B = In bud (single spike unless otherwise noted) SP = In spike, just initiating to medium spike stage (no buds showing yet) BS = Blooming size (most have just flowered & should flower again in season) NBS = Near blooming size (approximately 1 year to flowering in season) S = about 2-3 years to flowering PHAL SPECIES: Most of these Phalaenopsis species are from Taiwan & were sibbed or selfed using very select parents PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE Phal. aphrodite subsp. formosana ‘A09001’ (4N) BS $ 42 Limited (TETRAPLOID FORM of Species) A dynamite sibbing of this favorite of all Phal. species ! This population is a tetraploid form, producing more compact leaves and beautifully round flowers with great substance, producing a long-lasting display with a much smaller footprint than is typical for the species. Gracefully cascading spikes make for a stunning display ! 4” pot PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION Phal. appendiculata (MICRO-MINIATURE Species) Rarely available ~ and often thought difficult to grow ~ this sibbing from a nursery in Taiwan renown for its species is a much stronger grower than those available which have been jungle collected ! A micro-miniature, these plants are happily growing in small moss pots and are showing the vigor achieved by sibbing and selfing of select clones of this species. Although many growers choose to mount them, we have found they’re just as happy in a pot ~ we allow them to dry somewhat between waterings since they don’t like constantly wet feet. Grow under lower Phalaenopsis light conditions ~ shadier and a little cooler is the secret to success with these ! SIZE PRICE BS $ 68 Limited Experienced growers only ! ONE-OF-A-KIND SEEDLINGS ! JIAHO NURSERIES, TAIWAN Phal. bellina (Sib Cross of FRAGRANT Species) BS $ 65 Limited This sib cross of everyone’s favorite Phal. species comes from a nursery in Taiwan known for its amazing species breeding ! They have chosen two select forms of Phal. bellina to create a much improved generation of this fragrant species. Color will be more intense and form will be much rounder ~ all on compact spikes with beautifully compact wavy leaves ! FRAGRANT ! ONE-OF-A-KIND SEEDLINGS ! JIAHO NURSERIES, TAIWAN Phal. bellina fma. alba (Sib Cross of FRAGRANT Species) These are the pure alba forms of Phal. bellina, bearing waxy white fragrant flowers with a hint of green around their segments ! A true Phal. collector’s plant and rarely available in this color form. FRAGRANT ! ONE-OF-A-KIND SEEDLINGS ! BS Limited $ 95 PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION JIAHO NURSERIES, TAIWAN Phal. cornu-cervi fma. chattaladae SIZE PRICE BS $ 95 Limited (the true chattaladae !) (Rare color form of Species – Sib cross from Dr. David Grove made from the original species) This is the genuine chattaladae form of Phal. cornu-cervi from David Grove, owner of the only known plant of this variety. NOTE: There are other red forms of Phal. cornu-cervi being offered – but they are actually fma. rubescens or a cross between fma. rubescens and possibly fma. chattaladae….all showing a hint of yellow in their lateral sepals and most with a yellow back to the flowers. Fma. chattaladae has a totally solid red back to its flowers with no hint of yellow anywhere except the very tips of the lateral sepals & it retains its solid red color, even on the fading flowers, whereas fma. rubescens will begin to show yellow as the flowers fade. Phal. hieroglyphica fma. alba (RARE Color Form of Species: ‘Golden Promise’ AM/AOS x self) The rare alba form of Phal. hieroglyphica which we find much more charming than the common white & burgundy form. For an alba form these have been extremely vigorous growers & a few from this group have flowered already. Always leave the previously flowered spike on the plant since they do tend to add additional buds while making a new spike or two. ONE-OF-A-KIND SEEDLINGS ! BS (1) $ 48 PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE Phal. javanica NBS $ 48 Limited (Species: ‘Montclair’ x self) Not often available, this strain is the result of a sibbing of two select forms from a nursery in Taiwan renown for its work with improved forms of orchid species, particularly Phalaenopsis ! Very compact pendulous spikes produce small flowers cascading over or between compact round leaves. Again, we’ve found this species does better in our greenhouses when grown a little cooler & shadier at a lower bench level. Experienced growers only ! MINIATURE SPECIES ONE-OF-A-KIND SEEDLINGS ! JIAHO NURSERIES, TAIWAN Phal. lindenii BS $ 48 Mounted (Species) The result of sibbing two select clones of this rarely available species, its beautifully mottled leaves provide a backdrop for gracefully cascading spikes of small white or peppermint-striped flowers, beautifully accented with pink striping & a bright pink flush in the lip. Grow cooler & shadier. Limited ONE-OF-A-KIND SEEDLINGS ! Phal. mariae BS (Rarely Available Species) This species has all but disappeared in cultivation. Unfortunately, many plants found their way into this country mislabeled as Phal. mariae when they were actually Phal. bastianii. Phal. mariae is easily recognized by its gently cascading flower spikes, a slightly more cupped flower and bold blotching on its creamy-white background. We’ve already flowered a few from this population last July & it is the TRUE Phal. mariae. Will re-flower from old spikes in addition to producing new. FRAGRANT ! ONE-OF-A-KIND SEEDLINGS ! Limited $ 45 PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE Phal. speciosa var. christiana ’C#1’ JC/AOS BS $ 48 (Species) Limited A great two-tone color form of this species which each flower expressing its red in a different pattern, each flower being a wonderful surprise ! Its expression of red varies according to light & temperature with cooler temperatures & brighter light producing an increased amount of red in the flowers. Previously flowered spikes often tend to remain green and will continue to form buds and flowers as the plant creates new flower spikes. Fully mature plants with several spikes in flower at the same time create quite a stunning display of color ! FRAGRANT ! Phal. sumatrana BS $ 42 (‘Jiaho Green Giant’ x self) Limited Seedlings from a highly select green form of this easy growing species ! Producing delightfully fragrant long-lasting flowers from late spring into the fall, it has been producing large, up to 7cm. flowers. The next generation of vastly improved forms of this species from a nursery renown for exceptional sibbings and selfings of Phalaenopsis species ! FRAGRANT ! ONE-OF-A-KIND SEEDLINGS ! JIAHO NURSERIES, TAIWAN Phal. violacea fma. Malaysia BS (Species) Beautiful fragrance, beautiful leaves, stunning flowers ! A summer to fall bloomer, this sibbing has produced flowers ranging in color from pink to rich magenta. A result of mating two select forms of the species, this form of Phal. violacea is not often available. Grow under lower light conditions than that for Phalaenopsis hybrids and keep evenly moist (not wet) for your best flowering. A “must have” for any Phal. species collection ! FRAGRANT ! ONE-OF-A-KIND SEEDLINGS ! JIAHO NURSERIES, TAIWAN Limited $ 48 MULTIFLORAL MINIATURES & COMPACT-GROWING BRIGHTLY COLORED NOVELTIES: Again, most of these clones are the result of the excellent Taiwanese breeding programs. Many of the plants below were hand-picked from select nurseries over the last several years on our annual trips to Taiwan. PLEASE NOTE: With many of the harlequins & the red or orange novelties, differences in light & temperature at various times of the year will cause some variation to occur in the flower color and/or intensity of their markings. Under warmer temperatures & more shaded conditions in the summer, many red hybrids with yellow or orange in their breeding background will flower showing more of those colors. Under cooler temperatures & brighter light in the fall to winter months, the red pigment in the flowers is more strongly expressed resulting in solid red flowers. PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION Phal. Chiada Gloria ‘Wild Cat’ (Little Gem Stripes x Sunrise Red Peoker) A brand new harlequin-influenced multifloral miniature, flowering for the first time in just 1.7” pots ! Little Gem Stripes brings the multi-floral habit ~ Sunrise Red Peoker took the striping from the pod parent & emboldened it, much like Taida King’s Caroline ‘Taida Little Zebra’. However, this little hybrid presents its bold harlequin markings over a golden yellow background. Great substance flowers & a compact leaf & spike habit ! SIZE PRICE BS $ 20 (1) NEW ! MULTI-FLORAL MINI ! FROM THE CUTTING-EDGE BREEDING PROGRAM AT CHIAYI UNIVERSITY, TAIWAN Dtps. Chian Xen Violin ’CX 295’ AM/AOS (Chian Xen Pearl x Yu Pin Burgundy) Awarded by our Phal. AOS Judging team at the 2013 Taiwan International Orchid Show, this multi-floral miniature wowed the judging team with its fully round bright rose pink flowers, each marked with dark raspberry-red harlequin spots ! Yu Pin Burgundy is a miniature harlequin with Chian Xen Pearl being a famous standard harlequin parent. These plants are vigorous growers, having produced branching spikes in just 2.7” pots – and were still in full flower four months later ! MULTI-FLORAL MINI ! CHIAN XEN NURSERY, TAIWAN BS (1) NEW ! $ 42 PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE Phal. Ebony Sweet Gem (prov.) ’Little Treasure’ B/F $ 95 (Orig: Phal. (Yu Pin Natsume x Fuller’s Berry) ‘OX 1659’ Another clone using the great miniature harlequin parent, Fuller’s Berry ! Combined with Yu Pin Natsume, it has created cardboard-substance flowers that are almost black & are FRAGRANT…our photo, shot at the show with a flash, doesn’t begin to capture how really “almost black” these flowers are (due to the flash reflecting back to the camera). They are really as “black” as the Fredclarkeara’s or the Millenium Magics thanks to the rich harlequin pollen parent, Fuller’s Berry ! Mated with Yu Pin Natsume, another heavily marked harlequin mini, its rich dark color is the result of layer upon layer of harlequin suffusion coming from both parents, producing a thick flower with heavy color pigment and no hint of any other color. These plants have already flowered once, producing 2 branching spikes in just a 2.7” pot and will continue to produce flowers on previously bloomed spikes in addition to creating new…a couple which were cut back just 2 months ago are already spiking again. A cutting-edge “almost black” multi-floral mini ! NOTE: Often we will leave previously flowered, still green, spikes on these plants since they continue to add more buds to that spike in addition to forming new spikes. FRAGRANT ! MULTI-FLORAL WAXY MINI ! OX NURSERY, TAIWAN (1) PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE Phal. Fangmei Sweet ‘Maui Sunset’ BS $ 20 (1) (Little Gem Stripes x Dou-Dii Golden Princess) Another great clone of this amazing sunset-tone multi-floral mini ! Color intensities on both clones will vary according to light & temperature at the time of spiking – brighter light & cooler temperatures produce the most vivid color. Since these flower twice a year, its intense colors will be most vivid during a late fall to winter flowering. MULTI-FLORAL MINI ! OX NURSERY, TAIWAN Phal. Fangmei Sweet ‘OX 1536’ AM/AOS BS Limited (Little Gem Stripes x Dou-Dii Golden Princess) A really unique clone of this candystriped multi-floral miniature – just awarded at the Taiwan International Orchid Show bearing 44 brilliantly colored flowers on two branched inflorescences ! Although the sepals bear red candy-stripes over the yellow background, the petals are almost solid red-orange – with all segments showing a beautiful narrow yellow picotee – and the lateral sepals show distinct red striping over the yellow background creating a dramatic contrast with the petals. Longlasting heavy substance flowers on very compact spikes which tend to continue to produce buds, even after all the flowers are open. Definitely an arresting presentation ! MULTI-FLORAL MINI ! OX NURSERY, TAIWAN NEW ! $ 20 PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE Phal. Fuller’s Gold Stripe ’A09168’ SP/B $ 28 Limited Producing flowers slightly larger in size (2 ½”) than the clone ‘OX1560’, its color is more intense due to a heavier overlay of the red candy striping, giving the appearance of orange ! These are vigorously growing & spiking plants as first bloomers with nice compact leaf spans. A definite step up from the older hybrid of Baldan’s Kaleidoscope with its large flowers & huge leaf span ! First bloomers MULTI-FLORAL MIDI ! TAIDA NURSERY, TAIWAN Phal. Fuller’s Gold Stripe ’OX1560’ An especially charming clone of this multi-floral miniature ! Unlike the other commonly available clones of this same hybrid, this particular clone produces extremely round well-balanced flowers on very compact branching spikes – its striping and red lip are also much more vivid and well-defined than its siblings – its presentation beautifully set off by a central white flush and its flower size takes after the multi-mini parent. These heavy substance flowers lead us to wonder if they’re 4N – and its heavier substance means a longer-lasting display. If we could only grow one clone of Fuller’s Gold Stripes, this would be it ! SP $ 33 Limited 2 spikes ! BS $ 20 Limited MULTI-FLORAL MINI ! OX NURSERY, TAIWAN Phal. Gan Lin Fairy ‘GL’ (Chian Xen Pearl x Mount Lip) Producing a unique harlequin pattern, this hybrid is the result of crossing a large semi-alba with a famous harlequin parent ! Compact growth with spikes which will branch when fully mature, producing long-lasting flowers due to the heavier substance of its harlequin parent. A spectacular show ! GAN LIN NURSERY, TAIWAN SP/B (1) NEW ! $ 25 PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE Phal. Gan Lin Pearl ‘King’ SP/B $ 25 (Taida Pearl x Yu Pin Pearl) NEW ! A classic example of today’s cutting-edge harlequin breeding ! Pristine white flowers are kissed centrally with bold burgundy-red harlequin accents. Naturally cascading spikes with classically large flowers ! GAN LIN NURSERY, TAIWAN Phal. Lioulin Moon ’OX1533’ FCC/AOS (Phal. Tai-I Yellow Bird x Sogo Rosa) This particular clone of Lioulin Moon knocked everyone out with its color & floriferousness at the Taiwan Show ! Heavy substance brilliant yellow flowers of great full form are accented centrally with just a kiss of harlequin. And when fully mature, it can produce quite a show with multiple branching spikes. Of all the yellow harlequins we’ve seen, this one is still our #1 favorite ! OX NURSERY, TAIWAN B/F $ 35 BS $ 28 PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE Phal. Lioulin Sparrow ’Taida Little Panda’ SP/B $ 28 1 spike (Phal. Tai-I Yellow Bird x Sogo Rosa) Limited A multi-floral miniature version of the larger flowered waxy yellow harlequins – this little hybrid’s dark harlequin spotting is created by one layer of black-burgundy over another, all against a soft yellow background, its harlequin blotch almost totally covering each flower. This particular clone is super compact versus other clones of this hybrid, the spikes reaching no taller than 6-8” from the rim of the pot & vigorously branching. Very heavy waxy substance, extremely compact spikes and leaves, and a prolific brancher ! 2 spikes ! $ 33 Limited MULTI-MINI HARLEQUIN ! Phal. Lioulin Sparrow ’Taida Violet Butterfly’ B/F $ 33 2 spikes Limited (Tai-I Yellow Bird x Sogo Rosa) An adorable harlequin mini that has already produced 2 branching spikes in just 2.7” pots ! This group is just initiating its first spikes, the spikes being just slightly taller than the clone ‘Taida Little Panda’. It also differs from that clone in that all its segments are surrounded by a generous yellow picotee. The perfect little “brighten any corner” Phalaenopsis ! MULTI-MINI HARLEQUIN ! Phal. Liu’s Berry ‘PS3331’ SP/B/F (Eduardo Quisumbing x parishii) 1 spike Limited Carrying the charmingly broad lips and flower size of the more difficult to grow species, Phal. parishii, this easy-to-grow hybrid has it all ! This clone of Liu’s Berry has a stronger suffusion of its soft pink dusting covering all its segments than the clone ‘Orchid House S.W.’. With a great compact leaf span & equally compact gently cascading spikes, this little gem fits easily into any collection. MICRO MINI ! LIU’S NURSERY, TAIWAN 2 spikes ! $ 28 $ 33 PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE Phal. Liu’s Fantasy ‘Tom Ann’ B/F $ 22 (1) (Be Glad x Timothy Christopher) Our best clone of this miniature, showing a great mix of both famous parents ! What sets this clone, ‘Tom Ann’, apart is its pure white lip with just a touch of yellow in the callus, quite different from the traditionally available clones of this little hybrid which bear yellow lips – compact grower with nice round thick leaves ~ we strongly suspect this particular clone is a tetraploid (4N). Easy to fit into any collection, this is an adorably petite & pristine white charmer ! NEW ! MULTI-FLORAL MINI ! LIU’S NURSERY, TAIWAN Phal. Liu’s Sakura ‘KF’ BS (2) (pulcherrima alba fma. champornensis x Otohime) A very special multi-floral mini that we saw at Liu’s Nursery in 2013 ~ and which we’ve been anxiously awaiting since then ! These are poly-props, not mericlones, produced this way so that the results would be true to the parent plant ~ which also means a very limited supply. Beautiful white flowers with a soft kiss of pink around its segments & charming lightly ruffled semi-peloric petals. The spike habit takes after the Phal. pulcherrima parent, being upright, but is much more compact than pulcherrima in height and the flower size is intermediate between pulcherrima & Otohime. Unique & very different from any Phal. available today ! STEM PROPS MULTI-FLORAL MINI LIU’S NURSERY, TAIWAN First bloomers NEW ! $ 65 PHOTO NAME & DESCRIPTION SIZE PRICE Phal. Liu’s Triprince ‘KF#4’ B/F $ 48 (1) (Eduardo Quisumbing x lobbii) A select clone of this amazing little Phal. lobbii hybrid ! A vigorous grower, unlike its pollen parent Phal. lobbii, it enjoys the benefit of the strong-growing Eduardo Quisumbing which is (amabilis x pulcherrima). This clone differs from the clone ‘KF’ in that its broad Phal. lobbiiinfluenced lip is more yellow in color without the light orange overlay of ‘KF’. Very compact leaf span & spike height – ideal for windowsill & under-lights growing as well as space-challenged collections ! NEW ! LIU’S NURSERY, TAIWAN MULTI-FLORAL MINI ! Phal. Meidarland Sunlight BS (Golden Sun x Ld’s Bear King ‘Red King’) This newly named hybrid has been sensational to say the least ! All have flowered red, most being a true fire engine red rather than a blue-red ~ and as very young first bloom seedlings, they’ll only improve in size & form with each succeeding flowering. Prices for select plants from this cross start at $150, with each individually priced according to flower quality. See our Facebook page for photos of some that have already flowered for us: www.facebook.com/orchidphile WAXY FRAGRANT NOVELTY ONE-OF-A-KIND SEEDLINGS ! We saw and awarded this particular clone at the 2013 Taiwan International Orchid Show, bearing 24 flowers of 8.8cm on two gracefully arching inflorescences. A great result of mixing parents with heavy yellow heritage, harlequin background and French spots, its color has resulted from a fusing of all its background parentage into one solid stunning color, its segments perfectly outlined with a narrow yellow picotee ! Added to the amazing sunset color from Surf Song comes the BIG LIP from Yu Pin Fireworks, making for an arresting display of a tri-petal flower, around 3” in size. What we really liked about this particular clone was the flatness of the lip as opposed to many “big lip” clones we’ve seen that are showing a severely cupped lip…this one gives the appearance of three petals on a nice flat flower. OX NURSERY, TAIWAN Phal. OX Yellow Lip ‘OX1648’ AM/AOS (K S Culiacan x OX Firebird) This particular clone of Phal. OX Yellow Lip stood out in a class of its own at the Taiwan Show two years ago ! Taida King’s Caroline ’A08309’ SP/F (Ever-spring King x Ho’s Little Caroline) BS At last year’s TIOS show in Taiwan, we saw quite a range from this multi-floral mini hybrid. We had our grower continue to grow them to full maturity so they’d produce the best display when they flowered – and they’ve been vigorous flowering plants. A rich blood-red flower (not reddish-pink) with a heavy cardboard substance – meaning extremely longlasting. A fully mature plant will produce wonderfully compact branching spikes under cooler temperatures & shorter days. Having been granted its HCC/AOS in southern California, we know that when flowered during the winter months it is definitely AM/AOS Award Quality ! MULTI-FLORAL MICRO-MINI ! TAIDA NURSERY, TAIWAN FRAGRANT MINIATURE CHINESE CYMBIDIUMS: All the species listed below grow & flower easily WITH our Phals under the same light & WARMER temperature conditions since they are miniature growing Chinese species, requiring much lower light, less space & will grow under warmer temperatures than their larger cousins ~ they also don’t require the extreme chill of standard Cymbidiums in order to make their flower spikes and all tend to flower more than once a year, having no definite flowering season. Two of our clones in particular are just 6” in height – perfect for windowsill & under-lights growing ! As you will notice, we are particularly fond of the green & yellow flowering varieties with either delightfully compact or elegantly tall flower spikes. We’ve found that the traditional pale pink-burgundy colored flowers are just too muddy to stand out and make a statement. Several of these varieties also have the added charm of VARIEGATED FOLIAGE, meaning they’re attractive, even when not in flower ! Variegated foliage comes at a higher price because it’s greatly prized in Japanese & Chinese cultures, meaning the stronger the variegation, the more expensive the clone. It differs from ‘PS3331’ in that the white base color is more pronounced with just a dusting of soft pink around all its segments. Compact leaf span and spikes and tends to flower more than once a year ! MICRO MINI ! LIU’S NURSERY, TAIWAN BS (1) $ 25 Phal. Liu’s Rainbow ‘M’ BS $ 33 (1) (Be Glad x lindenii) One of the most charming of Micro Minis, producing small white flowers with a central blush & broad lip on extremely compact spikes over an amazingly compact leaf span. These plants are just finishing their flowering but we expect them to be spiking again within the next 2-3 months for a great spring display. Vigorous and easy grower ! NEW ! MICRO-MINIATURE LIU’S NURSERY, TAIWAN Phal. Nobby’s Amy ‘FS5-11’ (Be Glad alba x Rothschildiana) BS $ 25 (5) Created by a mating of the alba forms of both parents, the result has been beautifully round flowers, pristine white with a bright yellow lip ! Due to its multifloral background, this clone readily branches on tall spikes and has been an amazingly easy grower. Amazingly long lasting flowers for a white multi-floral mini. As first bloomers, they have already flowered with two spikes & even with all its flowers open, it’s still producing more buds on each spike. One of the best miniature whites we’ve ever seen ! MULTI-FLORAL MINI ! Phal. OX Happy Queen ‘OX1621’ AM/AOS BS (OX Happy Girl x OX Red Shoe) NEW ! A grand & floriferous display of heavily harlequin-accented flowers produced on readily branching spikes when fully mature ! OX Lucky Boy ‘OX 1587’ AM/AOS BS $ 22 (2) (K S Culiacan x Nobby’s Amy) Just awarded at the 2013 Taiwan International Orchid Show, this clone was showing off with 69 flowers on 4 branched inflorescences over wonderfully compact leaves !
