Taiwan. At various times during the year, this will also include plants of Phal. bellina, Phal. violacea and hybrids with their
breeding background. These will be available on a First Come-First Serve basis – all will be One-of-a-Kind plants, not
mericlones.
We’ve also expanded our collection of miniature Chinese Cymbidiums, miniature Vandaceous and miniature
Dendrobiums – all of which grow & flower happily with our Phals. These are now listed these in their own sections.

(MICRO-MINIATURE Species)
Rarely available ~ and often thought
difficult to grow ~ this sibbing from a
nursery in Taiwan renown for its species
is a much stronger grower than those
available which have been jungle
collected ! A micro-miniature, these
plants are happily growing in small moss
pots and are showing the vigor achieved
by sibbing and selfing of select clones of
this species. Although many growers
choose to mount them, we have found
they’re just as happy in a pot ~ we allow
them to dry somewhat between waterings
since they don’t like constantly wet feet.
Grow under lower Phalaenopsis light
conditions ~ shadier and a little cooler is
the secret to success with these !

(Rare color form of Species – Sib cross from Dr.
David Grove made from the original species)
This is the genuine chattaladae form of
Phal. cornu-cervi from David Grove,
owner of the only known plant of this
variety. NOTE: There are other red
forms of Phal. cornu-cervi being offered –
but they are actually fma. rubescens or a
cross between fma. rubescens and
possibly fma. chattaladae….all showing a
hint of yellow in their lateral sepals and
most with a yellow back to the flowers.
Fma. chattaladae has a totally solid red
back to its flowers with no hint of yellow
anywhere except the very tips of the
lateral sepals & it retains its solid red
color, even on the fading flowers,
whereas fma. rubescens will begin to
show yellow as the flowers fade.
Phal. hieroglyphica
fma. alba
(RARE Color Form of Species:
‘Golden Promise’ AM/AOS x self)
The rare alba form of Phal. hieroglyphica
which we find much more charming than
the common white & burgundy form. For
an alba form these have been extremely
vigorous growers & a few from this group
have flowered already. Always leave the
previously flowered spike on the plant
since they do tend to add additional buds
while making a new spike or two.

This species has all but disappeared in

mislabeled as Phal. mariae when they

mariae is easily recognized by its gently

cupped flower and bold blotching on its
creamy-white background. We’ve already
flowered a few from this population last

re-flower from old spikes in addition to

MULTIFLORAL MINIATURES & COMPACT-GROWING BRIGHTLY COLORED NOVELTIES:
Again, most of these clones are the result of the excellent Taiwanese breeding programs.
Many of the plants below were hand-picked from select nurseries over the last several years on our annual trips to Taiwan.
PLEASE NOTE: With many of the harlequins & the red or orange novelties, differences in light & temperature at various times
of the year will cause some variation to occur in the flower color and/or intensity of their markings. Under warmer
temperatures & more shaded conditions in the summer, many red hybrids with yellow or orange in their breeding background
will flower showing more of those colors. Under cooler temperatures & brighter light in the fall to winter months, the red
pigment in the flowers is more strongly expressed resulting in solid red flowers.

Another clone using the great miniature
harlequin parent, Fuller’s Berry !
Combined with Yu Pin Natsume, it has
created cardboard-substance flowers that
are almost black & are FRAGRANT…our
photo, shot at the show with a flash,
doesn’t begin to capture how really
“almost black” these flowers are (due to
the flash reflecting back to the camera).
They are really as “black” as the
Fredclarkeara’s or the Millenium Magics
thanks to the rich harlequin pollen parent,
Fuller’s Berry ! Mated with Yu Pin
Natsume, another heavily marked
harlequin mini, its rich dark color is the
result of layer upon layer of harlequin
suffusion coming from both parents,
producing a thick flower with heavy color
pigment and no hint of any other color.
These plants have already flowered once,
producing 2 branching spikes in just a
2.7” pot and will continue to produce
flowers on previously bloomed spikes in
addition to creating new…a couple which
were cut back just 2 months ago are
already spiking again. A cutting-edge
“almost black” multi-floral mini !
NOTE: Often we will leave previously
flowered, still green, spikes on these
plants since they continue to add more
buds to that spike in addition to forming
new spikes.

(Surf Song x Yu Pin Fireworks)
Seen & awarded at the 2013 TIOS Show in
Taiwan, this clone had everything going
for it – so we ordered as many as we
could ! Added to the amazing sunset
color from Surf Song comes the BIG LIP
from Yu Pin Fireworks, making for an
arresting display of a tri-petal flower,
around 3” in size. What we really liked
about this particular clone was the
flatness of the lip as opposed to many
“big lip” clones we’ve seen that are
showing a severely cupped lip…this one
gives the appearance of three petals on a
nice flat flower.

(K S Culiacan x OX Firebird)
This particular clone of Phal. OX Yellow
Lip stood out in a class of its own at the
Taiwan Show two years ago ! Its medium
pink flowers were boldly accented with
dark electric yellow lips against its
central white halo & drew our judging
team’s eyes from all the way across an
acre-sized judging display area.
Although the 4” flowers open a lighter
pink, as they mature, the pink becomes
even more intense in color. An
amazingly unique flower for its bold color
contrast ~ and well deserving of its
AM/AOS !

FRAGRANT MINIATURE CHINESE CYMBIDIUMS:
All the species listed below grow & flower easily WITH our Phals under the same light & WARMER temperature
conditions since they are miniature growing Chinese species, requiring much lower light, less space & will grow under
warmer temperatures than their larger cousins ~ they also don’t require the extreme chill of standard Cymbidiums in order to
make their flower spikes and all tend to flower more than once a year, having no definite flowering season. Two of our clones
in particular are just 6” in height – perfect for windowsill & under-lights growing !
As you will notice, we are particularly fond of the green & yellow flowering varieties with either delightfully compact or
elegantly tall flower spikes. We’ve found that the traditional pale pink-burgundy colored flowers are just too muddy to stand
out and make a statement.
Several of these varieties also have the added charm of VARIEGATED FOLIAGE, meaning they’re attractive, even when not in
flower ! Variegated foliage comes at a higher price because it’s greatly prized in Japanese & Chinese cultures, meaning the
stronger the variegation, the more expensive the clone.

ONE-OF-A-KIND HYBRID SEEDLINGS !
OTHER GENERA:
All the plants listed below grow & flower easily WITH our Phals under the same light & temperature conditions since
most are miniature or micro-miniature growing species or hybrids, requiring much lower light than their larger cousins – they
can put on quite a show for their compact size ! We also have divisions of several of our selected Cattleyas which we’ve
grown & marked as exceptional from seedling populations – however, since we didn’t take pictures of many when they were
flowering, we will only bring divisions in bud or flower due to the variation among several clones of the same select hybrid.

This particular clone of ‘Killer Bee’ was
hand-selected from a mericlone
population at Golden Gate Orchids for its
“clonal drift”, producing larger flowers
with a ready branching habit ! The recloning of this select clone has been true
to the original parent with all its pluses.
When fully mature, it resembles a swarm
of hovering bees, just loaded with
flowers. Grows happily under
Phalaenopsis conditions and likes to stay

Fredclarkeara After Dark
’Sunset Valley Orchids’ FCC/AOS
(Mo. Painted Desert x Ctsm. Donna Wise)
Easily grown under Phalaenopsis
conditions, this particular clone of
Fredclarkeara After Dark produces tawny
green flowers, heavily spotted maroon
over all ! Its heavy substance flowers
with a waxy texture lead to a long-lasting
display. In 2005 this plant was the
recipient of the Merritt W. Huntington
Award as the most outstanding plant
awarded an FCC/AOS. When granted its
FCC, it was vigorously displaying 48
flowers on three pendant inflorescences,
all emerging from just one pseudobulb !
A great exhibit plant and a stunner when
in flower.
Of special note: We started growing our
exhibit plants from this group in New
Zealand moss & have noted that its even
moisture supply helps keep the older
pseudobulbs plump while giving
increased vigor to the new growths.

BLACK ! Produces cascading spikes of
multitudes of waxy long-lasting flowers in
late winter, beginning its new pseudobulb
growth in early spring. Much easier to
grow than either of its parents with no
need to withhold water during its leafless
stage since the pseudobulbs are still
growing & photosynthesizing for future
growths. In addition, the arrangement of
the flowers is perfection as opposed to
similar “black” hybrids where the flowers
simply don’t open well and arrange
themselves on the spike properly.
Two important Plus Factors to this
hybrid: It’s a vigorous grower ~ and it
doesn’t shoot its pollen when jarred or
moved. We showed our exhibit plant of
this clone in three different shows last
winter with no loss of pollen despite all
the trips to and from !

(Slc. Love Castle x C. Candy Tuft)
Probably the best miniature Cattleya in
the world today ! Delightfully fragrant and
compact, it will grow happily under lower
light Phalaenopsis conditions. This
exquisite hybrid has multiple species in
its immediate breeding background: C.
loddigesii, C. aurantiaca, C. harrisoniana,
C. trianae, C. labiata, C. coccinea and C.
cinnabarina. Its heavy substance fullform pink flowers can be produced twice
a year on a fully mature plant, the flowers
lasting for months. During the cooler
winter months with lower light, the
flowers first open as soft pink, later
maturing to a vivid pink (as seen in the
photos) under bright light and warmer
growing conditions. An amazingly
vigorous grower. A deserving winner of
the Best Mini Catt and a blue ribbon at a
recent Taiwan International Orchid
