Goggle Valve HO Scale
72 inch diameter
Introduction
This laser cut multimedia kit is an HO scale model of a
72 inch goggle vale. It is designed to fit the stock pipes of the
Walthers Corp HO Scale Blast Furnace. This detail kit provides
all the parts to build a detailed replica of these important components of a blast furnace.
Kit Contents:
1 each 1/64th inch laser cut resin impregnated paper
1 each 1/16th inch laser cut acrylic sheet
2.5 inch piece of 0.060 inch styrene (Plastruct MR-60)
0.5 inch piece of 1/8th plastic tubing (Plastruct TB-4)
1 piece 0.015 inch phosphor bronze wire
give you some time to make sure the parts are properly aligned.
Test fit the parts to insure that they will fit over the pipe.
Make sure the gear teeth are aligned properly.
Prepare four equal length sections of the 0.060 inch rod. They
should be 0.60 inches long, but the exact length is not critical
as long as they are all about the same length.
Next you will build the valve on the pipe adding the pieces of
the valve, working from the back forward. For example on the
gas precipitator you work away from the Tee intersection. The
exploded view in Figure 3 shows the sequence. Note the locations of the parts with the hex bolts. Once you have all the
parts aligned, use Plastruct Bondene to glue the acrylic parts
to the styrene pipe. Regular styrene cement will not work on
acrylic plastic. Note the alignment of the goggle plate in relation to the middle acrylic part. The middle acrylic part has an
extra hole for the drive pinion gear. The hole for the pinion gear

Assembly Sequence
It is best to assemble the valve right on the pipes where it
will go. The prototype locations of these varied, but on the
Walthers kit one should be located on the output of the gas
precipitator and one on the output of the gas washer as

Cut a small section of 0.060 inch rod for the drive pinion,

the drive motor. Drill a 0.015 inch hole in this tube and glue a
section of 0.015 inch wire in this hole. Then attach the laser

You can add more details as desired. Usually goggle valves this
size have access walks and ladders for maintenance. These can
be scratch built using plastic but are not included in the detail
kit.
