History
Teaching
Aix was founded by Romans (Caïus Sextius) in 123 BC and has played a tremendous
role as the great political, academic and legal capital of Provence. The Institute of
Political Science is located in the heart of the historic city of Aix, facing the Saint
Sauveur cathedral which was erected in the XIIth century. Under the forecourt, still lies
relics from the antique Roman Forum. The University of Provence created in the XIVth
century, was first resided in the gorgeous building in which Sciences Po Aix is now
located. Since 1956, Sciences Po has been designated as a public institution with a
commitment to excellence and a strong link to Aix-Marseillle University.
Courses will begin on Monday the 6th of July, 2015. The program is based on 50 hours
of French language courses and 12 hours on French culture. Courses are scheduled
from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. A certificate of attendance will be
officially given to participants.
Accommodations
Students will live at Les Gazelles, which is just a ten minute walk from the city center.
Furnished rooms are 10 m2 with shower stalls. Collective kitchens are at the students’
disposal. House insurance and Wifi are included as well as :
Weather in Aix-en-Provence
The city of Aix enjoys a privileged climate : outside daily temperatures fluctuate
between 5°-6° in Winter and 25° in Summer. Aix averages 91 days of rain annually.
Winters are usually sunny and Summers are dry and pleasant thanks to a light breeze.
Every season is as pleasant as the next.

Included :
Breakfast is offered at the university refectory, located at Gazelles’ cafeteria, Mondays
to Fridays. Lunch boxes will be given to students at Sciences Po Aix, Mondays thru
Fridays. Evening and weekend meals will be paid for by students, either by using the
residence’s kitchens or by discovering the typical restaurants of historic Aix.

Cultural programs
Included are several cultural visits to the historical city center of Aix en Provence and
two excursions :
the MUCEM museum, the “vieux Port”, the famous quarter of the Panier in Marseille
Cassis and a boat trip in the gorgeous “Calanques”

Any change of accommodations will be paid by the student.

Must be 18 or over.
Registration

The registration to Sciences Po Aix ‘s Summer School requires the acceptance of the
general conditions.
Each student will have to present a valid passport on the first teaching day.
Each student will have to provide an ID photo on the first teaching day
Insurance
Each student must subscribe to his/her own insurance against illness and accident and a
civil liability insurance as well.
Each student will be held responsible in case of loss or theft of personal objects.
Attendance certificate
Students are asked to attend courses with diligence. An attendance certificate will be given
on request.
Exclusion
Sciences Po Aix reserves the right to expel a student for violation of the rules and procedures
of the Institute. No refund will be given in this case.

All fees must be paid to Sciences Po Aix by bank transfer, before May 1st 2015.

Transportation at the arrival/departure between the airport and the students’ residence is
included.
Transportation during the 2 excursions is included.

Once in France, no refund will be given in case of cancellation before or after the beginning
of the courses.
