Elena Baltacha-Severino was a professional tennis player. She was a four-time winner of the Aegon Award and long-term British No. 1. She has made the top 50 WTA rankings for 2 consecutive years finishing the 2011 season as a top 50 player; this has not been achieved in British women’s tennis since Anne Hobbs in 1987. Elena has had 3 victories over top 10 players, including two victories over Li Na and one against Francesca Schiavone, who at the time was the reigning French Open Grand Slam champion. Elena is one of the most successful players in Fed Cup Great Britain team history, second only to Jo Durie who achieved a ranking of WTA 5 in the world. Learn Play Grow History! Nino Severino has developed his vast sporting experiences through professional Football, Boxing, Golf, Cricket and Karate to name but a few. Nino spent nearly two years working as part of Bryan Klugs coaching team at the Ipswich Town Football Academy. Nino was included in many of the education programmes for the ECCB at the highest level, coaching the coaches at Loughborough Universities, Lords and The Oval. Nino ran his own multi-sport academy called Sports Performance Academy which included 2 official EIS World Class athletes and 12 England Internationals who went on to win World, European, Commonwealth, British and English medals and titles. Abbie Thorrington who competed for the prestigious Great Britain Triathlon Team was part of this squad. After managing these athletes Nino then specialised in tennis which lead him to a full time role as a WTA touring coach with Elena Baltacha-Severino former British No.1. Elena and Nino are passionate about getting children fit and healthy, and they believe the earlier the better. They consider teaching children about living a fit and healthy lifestyle, sportsmanship, team work, never giving up and many more subjects will help the development of happy, confident children. They believe a programme that engages children, allows them to use their imagination and have lots of fun would do this! With the above in mind learn play grow was born. What is Learn Play Grow? Learn Play Grow is a unique health and fitness for programme for children. Each session takes the children on a new journey, a completely exclusive way to encourage children to get fit and healthy, using our learn play grow characters, pictures, stories and music. Our sessions consist of active fun games, exercises and aerobics routines. We use various types of equipment to keep each activity fun and unique. Learn play grow aids the development of happy and confident children. Learn play grow incorporates mental development, by using role-play of different scenarios, ideas and emotions. Imaginative play is a vital component to the development of a child, it ensures your child is building on many essential skills; most of all the children have so much fun! Recognise the importance of focus, concentration and discipline Enhance self-esteem and confidence Learn Play Grow Sessions Cameron the Crocodile's Activities WEEK 1 and 7 Warm up song (5 minutes) Giving children a positive start to life Healthy Living Activity (5 minutes) 1 The children will start by walking around the circle of mats. The coach will then shout out different commands such as: All commands will be done by going round in a circle around the mats. - Let’s tip toe around the lounge to try and find Cameron the Crocodile. Let’s crawl around the kitchen to try and find Cameron. Let’s jump up the stairs to try and find Cameron. Let’s run around outside to try and find Cameron. At the end of the activity, explain to the children that it’s very hard to find Cameron the Crocodile, as he has such a good hiding place. Get children to put their hands up to express their ideas of where they think he might be hiding. 4 LPG FUN TIME (5 minutes) Children will draw different shapes with ribbons in the air. 6 7 Children will make small, medium or large movements to make various types of “waves” with the parachute. Coach must give a description of each shape and talk about how many sides a shape may have. 2 Coach will explain that Cameron the Crocodile wants the children to play hide and seek with him. Explain to the children that Cameron the Crocodile is hiding from them, and that they have to find him. Story (5 minutes) After the story, have a short conversation with the children, asking them what their favourite part of the story was. Go on to tell them what Cameron the Crocodile’s favourite part of the story was, (coach can choose which is Cameron’s favourite part). Activity 1 (10 minutes) Coach will speak to children about the importance of eating breakfast. Explain to the children that breakfast gives us lots of energy to do things, such as getting changed and brushing our teeth. Give children examples of healthy breakfast choices, ask them to give examples too. Then coach will shout out different foods, every time a breakfast meal is called out children have to tap their sticks. Waking up the body (5 minutes) 3 Learn play grow has over 500 session plans. Our sessions are put into different courses which are all separated by our LPG characters. In each course different stories, music, and sessions will be used, the children will work towards completing their sticker charts, so they can receive their learn play grow achievement certificate for that character. Ask for examples of an object that may be the same shape as the one they are drawing. 5 Activity 2 (10 minutes) Cool down song (5 minutes) 8 The below actions are to be done rhythmically with ribbons in children’s hands. 1.) 2.) 3.) Bum flicks. Wave ribbons side to side. Step left leg out to the side, then step right leg out to the side. Get children to practice each element without the music. Then to the Learn Play Grow aerobics song. In addition to this the music aids listening, rhythm, movement, language, counting and many more. Each song has specific benefits the children will gain.All of our music incorporates our LPG characters, with our characters telling our LPG In each session an LPG story is played, all of our stories have been written to tell a moral or have specific teachings in them. As the story is played the narrator will tell the LPG kiddies to do certain actions and movements. These actions and movements will be accompanied by amazing sound effects. This combination really makes the LPG kiddies feel as if they are in the story and gets them using their imagination. kiddies what to do to the music. Learn Play Grow Pictures Learn Play Grow Characters The learn play grow experience is expressed and presented with wonderful illustrations. Pictures and images of our LPG characters is an important element of our programme. Our LPG characters enrich another aspect of our LPG programme. The characters all behave as brilliant role models for our LPG kiddies. All the characters have an excellent attitude, are well behaved, enjoy eating and drinking healthily and most of all love having lots of fun! Before the warming up the body activity starts our LPG coach will show the LPG kiddies a picture of different scenarios such as the zoo, fun fair, jungle. The children will then warm up their bodies by imagining that they our going on an adventure with our LPG characters. © 2015 Awards Learn Play Grow The outcome of all the different aspects of our learn play grow programme, not only ensures children enjoy the wonderful world of sport, but it grasps their attention making the sessions easier to teach and makes their learning process a lot quicker. The most important factor is the whole learn play grow journey is fun and exciting; that children won’t get enough of it! Learn play grow has an added dimension that encourages creativity. The LPG kiddies are given a coloring sheet of the specific LPG character they our completing. The LPG kiddies are told they need to colour this in and that they can also write a note to the LPG character and bring it back to their coach if they wish. They also receive a heart-warming letter from the LPG character; this gives out a real feel good factor and really keeps the children motivated. N YOU ARE HERE © © © © © 2015 Learn play grow has a special award system, this adds extra encouragement for the LPG kiddies to enjoy and complete each session. When a child starts a course they are given an LPG sticker chart, at the end of every session a sticker is awarded for attending the session. When their sticker chart is complete, the LPG kiddies then receive an achievement certificate for completing the course. Giving children a positive start to life
